Confrontation
I was deeply asleep when my alarm clock did its job, I cursed a few times, I hated waking up early, but today I would be taking my final exam to graduate as a Landscape Architect. I had fought too hard to fulfill my dreams, coming from a wealthy, controlling family. My father was very angry when I told him I wanted to study architecture, but in the end he accepted, making me sign some documents that I didn't even bother to read.
Thanks to that moment of stupidity, I found myself today in my father's office, listening to something that for me only happened in novels.
"You know I don't like to beat around the bush, I'm a businessman with an impeccable reputation to maintain, you will get married this weekend," my father said in an implacable tone.
At first, I laughed a lot, but he showed no expression, so I understood that he wasn't joking.
"What are you saying? Have you gone crazy? I don't want to get married, damn it!" I shouted loudly, but I never expected his reaction.
His hand slapped my cheek, making me turn my face, my father had slapped me, my nails dug into my hands, breaking the skin, my face burned from the blow.
"Maximus, please, there's no need to go to such extremes."
Finally, my mother spoke up, during these twenty years I had never heard her disobey the head of the family.
"Shut up, Eleonor, or do you want me to advance your dose?" My poor mother lost color, I knew he hit her, I heard her scream many times, I wanted to defend her, but she never allowed it, this was my moment.
"I swear if you touch mom again, I'll kill you, I don't care that you're my father, I'm not afraid of you, with this," I pointed to my cheek, "you've just destroyed the little respect I had for you, you're nobody, father, I won't get married."
"I'm not asking you, it's an order, besides, you signed the agreement yourself." He smiled maliciously. How did we go from being an angel to being a demon? Who was this man talking to me?
"What are you talking about?"
"You signed an agreement with the Ferner Family, it was that night when you begged to study architecture, now you must pay the price."
He looked for the documents and handed them to me. I took the papers and read them carefully, it was true, I had signed an agreement with this family, I had to marry their son within the specified time frame, and that date was Saturday.
How could I be so foolish!
I didn't say another word, all I did was run out of that office, I ran with all my strength, escaping from that house, from that prison, I ran like a madwoman until I could flag down a taxi. I told the driver to take me to a place where I could end my life, and that's what I did.
Thirty minutes later, I was walking through the doors of a nightclub. At first, my intentions were to drown myself in alcohol, but with a few too many drinks, I made the worst decision of my life.
I am Samantha Trevelian, and this is my story...
