Invisible Man

Storm

While smoking, I saw Carmen with a bald man and a woman with rainbow-colored hair. Only one girl would be with Carmen: Sawyer Lily Hughes. The sway of her hips in her leather pants and red heels almost made me drop my cigarette. She has gotten curvy in all the right places and is no longer the beanpole we once were. I have to adjust my crotch at the sight of her. She doesn't notice I'm here watching her.

We never should have left her, but we had no choice. At nineteen, we had to choose between prison for murder or joining the Death Kings, a government-sanctioned group specializing in assassination and espionage.

The Death Kings started as a criminal underground organization in Palomino Bay, Texas, known as the Cards Royalty. We were in training for three years with them and then were on assignments.

Now we got to come home finally. Grêle, Louisiana, will be the base of operations for our team. Since the town's name means thunderstorm, we are called Tempest.

The Kings have many groups like ours scattered around. One of them has my friend/stepsister as a field medic. I wouldn't say I liked CHOAS initially, but after seeing how much they spoil Carley, I grew to like them. I learned I could trust them with my best friend, a woman I grew to think of as a sister.

My brothers exit the club just as Carmen and Sawyer climb into a big black dually truck. Jensen has his arms crossed with a scowl on his face. Carter is grinning ear to ear. I have a feeling he got to touch and hold our girl. JT is mimicking Jen, only he appears more hurt than angry. I didn't even let the woman we all love know I was in town, much less watching her.

"Carmen is furious with me. She won't let me explain anything. Sawyer didn't even give me a chance to talk," Jensen laments.

What did he expect? We all gave her up.

When Carter left his facility, he was careful to call Sawyer at night if we weren't working, since he had been given her phone number. Once a month was all we could risk, using a burner phone. Carter would put the phone on speaker to hear Sawyer's sultry voice.

"At least she didn't break your nose," JT grumbles. I glance down at his shirt, noticing the dried blood down the front of it.

Interesting. I guess her growing up with us paid off for her, making her rigid and able to care for herself. However, we can't take all the credit since she grew up in the MC.

"I don't know what you two are complaining about," Carter shrugs with a smirk. "I got her legs wrapped around me while gripping that amazing rump. Seriously, she has the best ass I've ever felt." Carter smiles like a smug little prick.

I shake my head at my brothers. "Well, I guess that's better than being invisible," I say, crushing my cigarette under my boot.

"Let's head to the apartment. We must figure out how to return to those girls' good graces. If we don't, they could become unprotected targets for others. We need to keep them safe, which means we need to earn their trust back." I get nods in return.

Jensen climbs in my passenger seat while I get in the driver's seat. JT and Carter get into Carter's orange 1970 Ford Torino Cobra.

Sawyer, we will win you back. After all, you are the Bonnie to my Clyde. You belong with us for the rest of our lives. I just hope our obsession with her won't get her killed.
