Chapter 3: I Must Find Her

Chapter 3: I Must Find Her

Nathan

I threw the file across the room and cursed a barrage of expletives, the man standing before me flinched at my sudden outburst.

"How many years has it been and still you can find her? Am I not paying you enough!" I glared at him with thunderous anger, the desire to break everything and set the world on fire was strong.

"Sir, we are trying everything we can and we are using all resources to find her but it seems that someone is blocking our way or intentionally misleading us because every time we uncover a clue and start searching, we end up back to square one again." He hurriedly explained.

Vincent Beckett, I know this is his doing.

"I don't care what you do or what methods you employ, I want to know where she is or you will all he fired and I will ensure your complete destruction." I warned, gesturing for him to leave and he quickly scurried away.

As soon as the office door closed, I shifted my gaze to the picture on my desk. I tenderly ran my fingers over her smiling face, her beauty radiating from the photographer.

'Where are you? Do you truly despise me so much that you refuse to even look at me?' A bitter and sad smile formed on my lips as memories of her laughter, her gentle gaze and her soothing voice flooded my mind and my heart clenched painful in my chest.

Six years I made the mistake of my life, six good year I divorced the only who loved and truly showed me care. Six long excruciating year I lived without my Yvonne. I was stupid and foolish enough to let a mere woman toil with my heart and blackmailed me in divorcing my wife. And now I am regretting all my actions, how I wished I could turn back the hands of time. I just hope it is not too late when I find her again, I just hope she could forgive me and gave me a second chance.

The office door swung open, interrupting my thoughts and my assistant, Larry Wade entered.

"Sir, Mr. Dennis is currently in Australia and won't be returning to the country for the time being. He wants to discuss the deal with you once he is back." He said.

"Prepare things, we are going to Australia." I furrowed my brows, frustrated by Mr. Dennis's stubbornness.

Not only did we require his investment for this project but his efficient technical team was also essential for its success. We couldn't afford to waste any more time to seal the deal.

"I knew you would say that, sir. I have already made arrangements and we can depart within thirty minutes." He responded professionally.

Larry was quite efficient in his job and always knew what to do, that is why he never disappointed me. I nodded, acknowledging his efficiency. He left my office and I organized the necessary documents I would need for the trip.

My hands paused as I glanced at the picture again, carefully I placed the picture down on my briefcase, ensuring it remained close to me. With the final check of my belongings, I exited the office.

As the private jet landed in Australia, I went straight to the waiting car. Although it was a beautiful country, nothing makes me feel good anymore. I have been numb for six years, no feelings, no emotions, just a lifeless body, working day and night. At times, I wished for death, hoping that maybe.. just maybe I would see her again.

I could remember when she always scolds me for working hard without getting tired. She always told me that I worked like a zombie and make fun of that. I never really appreciate those moments back then but I wish I could relieve them again. I wish she would scold me for my stubbornness, I wish she could call me her zombie again. I miss her so much, I wish I could see her again. I miss her that life feels worthless without her by my side.

The car halted at a traffic light and I massaged my forehead. I suddenly felt worse than ever as my head throbbed relentlessly and uneasiness washed over me. I closed my eyes to ease the pain and relax my senses.

Opening my eyes again, I stared out of the window to distract myself when a raven black hair woman sitting in the car beside mine caught my attention. She had her face turned away but her hair and the back of her head seemed achingly familiar. My heartbeat quickened and a surge of anticipation coursed through me, it couldn't be her, it must be my imagination. It must be another coincidence with someone who happened to have similar hair.

I focused my gaze on the woman, trying to see her face clearly when the signal turned green. She then looked straight ahead and my heart skipped a beat. It is her, it is really her. It is my wife.

"Larry, follow that car, hurry!" I exclaimed desperately.

He immediately directed his attention to the car and chased after it but after another traffic signal, we lost sight of the car.

"Faster, damn it! Catch up to her!" I was on the verge of leaping out of the car and following her on foot.

Larry maneuvered the car, attempting to trace the path of her vehicle but a sudden turn caused her car to vanish completely.

What the heck! No it can't be! We drove through numerous lanes in search of her but to no avail. She was gone.

"Damn it! Damn it!" I cupped my head, pulling at my hair in frustration and a few tears escaped my eyes. I lost her again. After six years, I set my eyes on her, I saw my wife again and still lost her again.

My heart was heavy, my head spinning and it was as if I was losing control of myself. This was like reaching the sky after several trials and was pushed down to square one. I had made a promise not to leave Australia without finding my wife. I will to any extent and risk it all just to set my eyes on her again.
