005

Frank blew out a cloud of smoke, a clear look of derision on his face as he studied the washed-out Alpha with thinning hair. He couldn’t imagine being handed the bonus of being born an Alpha and then wasting all that potential by being fucking stupid.

“Well, what is it?” He asked impatiently, tapping his cigarette with a finger to shake the ashes loose.

“She’s in my car,” Max started to say, his excitement tainted by anxiety.

Frank slowly dropped his cigarette and tried to look through the tinted windows of the truck to make out what or ‘who’ was inside but it proved difficult. “And by ‘she’ you mean…”

Max gulped, his eyes shifty. “A-An Omega-”

Frank fell silent for a few beats before breaking into loud raucous laughter, he ended his bout of hilarity by pulling out a gun and pointing the muzzle right at one of Max’s eyes. “Seems like you quickly got tired of living.”

“No, no, no, let me explain,” Max panicked, sweat running into his eyes as he backed into his truck and opened the passenger door. “Just take a look at her first and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.”

Frank was already sick of all of the Alpha’s ruses to delay his payment, and as the middleman, he took the brunt of the other’s failures. His gun dropped to his side however when the door opened to reveal waves of white-blonde hair, and although artificial lights brightened up the streets they were on, her hair seemed to draw in light from the moon, beautiful face peaceful.

He sheathed his gun once again and relit his cigarette that had died out, “So how did you get her?”

Max turned very pale at that question, knobby fingers messing up his slicked-back hair. “Y-You understand that some things have to be done-”

“No, I fucking don’t,” Frank cut him off, sucking hard on his cigarette.

“But auctioning Omegas off happens often-”

“Yeah, if the Omegas are willing.” He fired back, “You can’t just swipe a random Omega off the street and try to auction her off.”

“Zeb would do it,” Max said quietly after a short spiel of silence, an odd tone in his voice.

“Is that a threat, Max?”

“I’m just saying,” The greasy Alpha doubled down, “All you need is the money, it doesn’t matter how I get it.”

Frank didn’t argue because Max was right, if he didn’t agree to his diabolical plan, someone else out there would. That would have been the best-case scenario because he wanted to be far away from Max and the unconscious Omega when the plan eventually blew up but he couldn’t do it.

He took one look at the innocent Omega who was probably unaware that her life was completely ruined and couldn’t bring himself to send Max away. He knew how much of a sadist Zeb could be and at least if she was with him, he could guarantee her safety until she was auctioned off.

Frank stared at the Omega again, wondering how terrible her luck had to be for her to fall into Max’s hand today of all days, if she had come even a day late, she wouldn’t be in this situation.

“Fine, I’ll do it.” He begrudgingly agreed.

It wasn’t exactly the time to pretend to be moral after all, it was less common now but pretty Omegas who wandered into the dark side of Reef City ran a risk of getting kidnapped. They were hardly ever endangered and most if not all regained their freedom soon enough, he just hoped that would be the case for this Omega.

“What?” Max blurted out, in disbelief.

“I said I’ll take her. What’s her name?”

Max immediately adjusted the lapels of his suit jacket, he hadn’t expected his thinly veiled threat to work and he had been planning to try a different approach because if he went to Zeb instead, he would get hot lead to his brain and Celine would still be taken.

“Celine Mendez,” He immediately got down to business, “She’s from Moonstone Pack and is moving into Reef City.”

This brief description caught Frank’s interest, “From Moonstone?” He repeated to himself, studying her face. She was held upright by the seat belt, flopping forward into Max’s arms when he didn’t the locking mechanism.

Frank didn’t want to know more about the Omega, the less he knew, the better for his sanity. Although he hoped that she would get bought by a decent person who would eventually give her her freedom, there was a chance that a sick bastard would get her instead.

He led the way to his lodgings in the hostel, Max following behind him with the Omega in his arms. He gestured for the Alpha to put her on the lower bunk, searching the pockets of his leather jacket for another cigarette.

The auction would be held at a secret underground location that was at the center of the city, he would be driving out there in a couple of hours.

“So… about the money…” Max gingerly muttered after depositing the unconscious Omega.

Frank glared at him, “Better hope that the organizers even agree to have her auctioned.”

That was enough to send the greasy Alpha hurrying out without another word, leaving the weight of his poor life decisions in his hands.

He perched on a termite-ridden dresser, finding another cigarette to light up. The hostel was mostly empty as the main occupants were strippers and they were all at work. He would be long gone before they returned, which was a relief because he tended to get quite a handful of offers - they wanted to be auctioned off.

If they were lucky, it was like hitting the jackpot, they got to be the trophy property of some rich geezer without having to sell their body nightly. He often turned them down so he couldn’t understand why he had agreed to Max’s insane plan.

Frank watched the unconscious Omega through a cloud of smoke, he was certain that she would rake in a profit. Max might be stupid but he had an eye for things like this.
