Chapter 3

She splashed cold water on her face, composed herself, and then walked out when she met a nurse looking for her.

"Dr. Astrid, President Edward asked me to check on you. Are you alright?"

"I'm not feeling well. Please tell him to have another doctor tend to the patient."

The nurse replied, "OK."

"Thank you."

Cecily hurried back to her office to get changed and left without delay. Her encounter with Darian just now might have aroused his suspicion. If she didn't leave, Darian would probably recognize her soon.

Cecily grabbed her things and headed to the underground parking lot. Just as she was about to get in her car, she heard a child's cry for help.

Her heart skipped a beat because the voice sounded like her son Griffin's!

Frowning, she quickened toward the sound, worry clouding her mind.

'What's going on?' she thought.

Soon, Cecily saw two men sneakily stuffing a child into a car. Sensing something was wrong, she rushed over without hesitation, grabbed one man by the back of his collar, and kicked him away.

The man cried out in pain. The other man who was holding the child immediately realized what happened and was about to lunge at Cecily.

"Mind your own business, nosy bitch."

Cecily frowned, "This is my business."

"Then don't blame us for being rude to you." The man picked up a bat and fiercely attacked Cecily.

Cecily dodged the attack and chopped his wrist with her hand. In pain, the man dropped his bat to the ground. Cecily kicked him to the wall before he could react.

The two men realized they were no match for Cecily, so they exchanged a glance and made a decision. "Our employer doesn't want to make a scene about this, so let's go. Run!"

Cecily watched them flee and didn't chase after them. Instead, she turned back to check on the child. "Little one, are you okay..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she saw the face of the little boy in front of her and was instantly stunned. "Griffin? Didn't I ask Blaise to pick you up and take you home? How did you end up here at the hospital?"

Cecily examined his attire, puzzled. He was wearing a proper little suit and a cool baseball cap. But this wasn't what she dressed him in this morning. When did he change his clothes?

And why was he kidnapped by two men?

"Griffin, tell me what happened?" Cecily asked anxiously.

The boy in the suit stared at her with round eyes, expressionless.

He thought, 'Griffin? Was she calling me? But I'm Rowan Fitzgerald.'

Cecily said a lot, but the boy remained eerily quiet. She thought he was startled by what had just happened, so she hugged him gently. "Alright, baby, I won't ask more. Something fishy is going on. Let's go home first."

She thought, 'The two kidnappers mentioned an employer. Who hired them to kidnap Griffin? I have no enemies here. This never happened before.'

Rowan blinked and thought, 'Did this woman claim to be my mother?'

Cecily checked the time on her phone.

Rowan noticed that Cecily's phone screen was a photo of a child with her. How could that child look so much like him?

It was surprising, but he was certain that he didn't see it wrong.

However, he didn't know this woman. The child in the photo wasn't him, yet they looked identical. The only possibility was that they shared the same mother.

So, was this woman his biological mother? But everyone said his mother was dead.

Before he could say anything, Cecily had already picked him up and was heading in another direction.

Rowan's eyes were filled with confusion.

Meanwhile, in the monitoring room.

Darian finally saw Rowan in the underground garage surveillance. He was being carried by a woman. She had her back facing the camera, so her face was unidentifiable.

Darian's face darkened as he stared intently at the woman on the monitor. A strange sense of familiarity washed over him once again.

He frowned tightly. He didn't care if they had met before, but she was asking for trouble since she dared to take his son!

Edward immediately recognized Cecily, now sweating profusely.

What was she up to? She didn't treat Darian and also took Darian's son!

"Send someone to follow them," Darian ordered coldly.

"Yes."

Darian hurriedly left the monitoring room.

Meanwhile, Cecily had already driven out of the underground garage with Rowan, followed closely by a group of people. She glanced at the rearview mirror, her heart skipping a beat.

Were the people who kidnapped Griffin chasing after them?

"Griffin, sit tight." Cecily looked at the green light ahead and sped off.

About thirty feet away from Cecily, a black SUV pulled up.

A small figure came out of it, and the driver's window rolled down.

A man in a black shirt raised his alluring eyes slightly, casually leaning on the car window. "Your mom is unreliable. Why don't you stick with me from now on?"

Griffin roughly stuffed his coat into his backpack and snorted, "Sure. Call me boss, and we can stick together."

The man raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, chuckling, "Kid, you want to be my boss? Did you forget? Your teacher wanted to meet your parents today. I might inform your mom."

"You took me to the bar last night. I might inform my mom." Griffin made a face at him.

The man's expression changed, and in the next moment, they shook hands, both compromised.

"Your mom would kill us if she knew. So..."

Griffin quickly interjected, "So she can't know."

"I like your cleverness, kid." Blaise nodded approvingly.

"See you." Griffin waved to him.

Blaise smirked, his tone casual as usual, "See you."

With his backpack on, Griffin skipped and hopped into the hospital, looking forward to seeing Cecily. Suddenly, he noticed a car parked by the roadside, and he immediately recognized it as Cecily's car. Just as he was about to call out to her, he saw another little boy sitting in his designated car seat in the back.

Most importantly, that little boy looked exactly like him.

Griffin stood frozen in place, and by the time he snapped out of it, Cecily had already driven off with that boy.

Griffin thought, 'What's going on? Why did Mom leave with that boy? Who's him?'

Suddenly, Griffin felt a strong tug on the back of his collar.

Griffin kicked his legs in a fluster, angry. "Who is so bold?"

"Me. Your dad!"

"Who are you? How dare you? I don't have a dad!" Griffin kicked his legs and turned around. Then, he saw a cold and gloomy face.

"You're braver now." Darian frowned, looking at Griffin sternly.

Seeing the fierce face, Griffin was on high alert. This man looked like a villain.

"Let go of me, bad guy!" Griffin raised his little fist and punched Darian on the nose.

Caught off guard, Darian took the punch, and a warm flow instantly welled up in his nose.

"Boss!" Larkin, who was following behind, was stunned.

Darian let go of Griffin. Griffin ran away frantically, shouting, "Bad guy, I'm calling the police! Help!"

Darian touched his nose. It was bleeding.

What was wrong with Rowan all of a sudden?
