Chapter 5

He moved his eyes, signaling for Carlie to look beside her and that's when Carlie realized there was a rifle lying next to her thigh. The calligraphy 'Rey De La Oscuridad' was inscribed on it, the rifle Jona had bounced off when he fell from the car earlier.

Carlie looked at the man again, as if to ask, 'What do you want me to do with this?'

Jona's reply, however, managed to make Carlie's heart fall into her stomach.

He smiled wickedly, then shot a glance at the man pointing the gun at him and Carlie wasn't stupid enough to know what Jona meant.

"Shoot this guy, use that."

Carlie was immobilized. 'He told me to kill someone?! To end the life of a fellow human being?!' Carlie shook her head.

'How could i? There's no way i could!'

Her heart was beating uncontrollably, and sweat was pouring down her forehead. Carlie couldn't do that. Even if she had almost no empathy, killing someone was an impossible thing that she couldn't possibly do!

'And this asshole told me to get my pretty hands dirty!?'

"Never mind, let's end this before the tables turn again,"Edgar's words almost jumped Carlie off the spot. "I don't want to have any more arguments with you, and i'm sure Entoinette is already waiting for your apology in the afterlife."

Edgar flashed a vicious smile. "Shoot him."

'Shit! Shit!'

'SHIT!'

'What should i do!? You bastard! Is there no other way!?'Carlie turned her head once more, staring at Edgar's subordinate finger, which was already touching the trigger. 'That man will die if i don't do anything!'

Carlie stretched out her hand, holding the rifle that she really didn't want to touch. Her sweaty hands held the rifle tightly. 'Do i really have to do this!? I don't want to!'

I don't want to kill anyone! "Now!"

Carlie bit her lip very hard and closed her eyes tightly. If she didn't stand up now, then Jonathan Austin's life would be over. If she didn't stand up to defend herself, then her beautiful life was over. And that showed one thing, Carlie had no other choice.

'Fuck it!'

"Stop and take that gun away from him, or I'll blow your worthless brains out!"

Everyone there—Edgar and his 10 subordinates—turned their heads almost spontaneously, shock written all over their faces. And what they saw there was the figure of Carlie, with her left hand staggering helplessly while her right hand grasped the rifle, pointing at the man who was about to shoot Jona.

And that man, Jonathan Austin, carved out his widest, wickedest smile. He was satisfied, staring at Carlie with the rifle in her hand.

"Oh my, what's going on?"Edgar's voice boomed out as he let out a loud laugh. "Madame Eloise, why is a woman like you here? Moreover, siding with this person?"

Carlie gritted her jaw. "Shut your mouth. This is none of your business, ugly."

Edgar's laughter rang out again. "My deepest apologies, Madame, but here it seems,"he paused, laughing at Carlie under his breath, "that even your orders do not call for threats, do they?"

Carlie gritted her jaw. "How dare you!"

Edgar returned his smile. "What are you going to do with that rifle in your hand, Madame? Help Jonathan Austin. Kill my subordinates,"Edgar laughed. "Would you?"

"Shut your filthy mouth, or you'll regret it!"snapped Carlie.

Yet again, her warning fell on deaf ears. "Oh, come on, you should realize this isn't the right time to say that, right?"he chuckled. "Let's stop this, Madame. What will you gain from defending such a man? Wealth? You don't need that anymore, do you?"

Edgar spread his arms, flashing a smile of satisfaction. "Come back with us, and your life will not be interfered with,"he said. "And instead, give us a good position by doing business with your family. That way, you can get out of this place safely."

Carlie gave the man a sharp look. "Isn't that a sweet offer?"asked Edgar.

'The man's words were not wrong,'Carlie inwardly mumbled.

Walk out of this place with a life, get her hand treated, and never have to deal with Jonathan Austin again. Sounds fun and tempting. In hindsight, it was probably the easiest route for Carlie to take to save her own life.

But!

Carlie looked at Jonathan Austin, who was staring at her right now, right in her eyes. No trepidation, no fear. He looked up at Carlie, right into the woman's beady eyes. It seemed to penetrate her soul, disarming her mind.

'Damn it! I can't let him die!'Carlie chuckled to herself. 'What's wrong with you, stupid? What's wrong with your stupid brain that wants this man to survive!?'

Carlie squeezed her hand tightly, feeling the heat rising in her veins. 'You just want his to take responsibility for the outcome of the award. You just want jis to regret winning Tiffanny. That must be it!'

'That must be it, Carlie!'

"Your silence i take as a 'yes' answer, Madame."

Carlie immediately turned her head when Edgar's voice rang out again. The man turned to his subordinate. "Shoot him."

"Who says i approve of you!?"snapped Carlie, leveling the gun at the man who was about to shoot Jona. "Stop it!"

"How about you stop it if you have the power to do so?"asked Edgar with a booming laugh. "You could, couldn't you? You could kill my subordinates, couldn't you!?'

"And of course you will accept the consequences if all my subordinates target you after this, right!?"

Carlie almost stepped back. "Just stop if you can! Just try it with that hand that's shaking with fear!"provoked Edgar with a satisfied chuckle.

'Bastard!'

"Eloise!"Carlie turned her head as Jona's voice rang out. "Don't hesitate."

For the first time in all the years she had been living with a high ego, on this day, Carlie felt her eyes pricked with pain. 'What?! Do i want to cry?' Even during that time, her tears did not unravel, Carlie forgot what it felt like to shed tears.

She didn't even know what she was feeling right now. 'Scared? Furious? Anger? Revenge? Or sad?' No idea. She hadn't had so many feelings about bullying her at once, like now.

She had to do something. Carlie knew that. Pressing this trigger was what she had to do. The right thing to do is the right thing to do. However, her guts weren't that big.

Really, Carlie doesn't want to have a murderer in her life!

"Shoot him, now!"

"Eloise!"

Carlie gritted her jaw.

'Assholes! Fuck everyone! Damn it!'

'Do i really have to do this!?'

Carlie almost screamed in frustration, letting out a scream so loud that her vocal cords screamed in pain, as if a hand had not suddenly appeared from behind her. The woman almost slammed her heels down, venting her emotions, as if a man had not suddenly grabbed her hand from behind.

Carlie turned her head in surprise. 'Who!?'

"Excuse me, madame,"the man said. "Let me do it."

Carlie froze in surprise as the man's hand grasped hers and placed his fingers in front of Carlie's, at the same time as the woman touched the trigger.

And... Doar!

Carlie almost screamed, as ammunition ran from the rifle in her grasp. Once, twice, and three times. The first blew out the brain of the man pointing the gun at Jona, then his stomach, then his heart. Spilling blood onto the ground, blasting the contents of his head to splatter on the bare ground.

The man's face could no longer be seen, covered in blood that flowed from his head to his ankles. His organs had exploded,

And his body collapsed directly on the ground, dying.

Carlie was rooted to her feet, unable to move, unable to move.

'I...'

'Killing a man!'
