CHAPTER FOUR
They saw her, called each other's attention to her shopping bags and they laughed at her, hysterically.
“So you think you are going to get a mate huh?! Very funny” Megan told her
Taylor was irritated.
“Everyone deserves to be loved Megan, please step aside so I can go get ready.” She replied to them a second before she realized her mistake.
“Oooh! She talks! Girls, I don't believe it, like she's finally grown some wings huh?” They continued laughing again right before Anya took her bags and threw them on the floor and everything she bought was laid bare right in front of the pack house.
There were a lot of people running around, preparing for the ball, but at this, they paused and joined the ridicule.
There was a moment of silence before the whole pack house went agog with laughter. She didn't know she was this hated.
“Oh my goodness, she really thinks she's getting a mate!” One of the guys that had gathered to watch the spectacle shouted while pointing at her things on the ground.
Meanwhile, Taylor was calming her wolf down through the whole scenario and not really paying attention to their antics until someone matched her dress.
"Stop! Stop! Stop! You are ruining my dress!" Taylor screamed at him while struggling to remove it from his feet before it tore.
She was in the process of humiliation when the Alpha growled in annoyance in the pack link.
Taylor's shrill brought the Alpha out and he shouted at everyone and he was visibly upset. He had guests and there was an unnecessary ruckus over what? He promptly shouted at them in his Alpha tone.
“If you all don't disappear from here in one second, I will cancel the Mating Ball.” He reprimanded them
They all scampered away from the scene, leaving Taylor with all the stuff she bought on the floor.
She began picking them up with tears in her eyes.
“Hey, hey, none of that. You don't need to cry over them. They do not know how strong you actually are so ignore them as usual. Now, pick yourself up, alright?” The Alpha told her before walking back to the pack house to continue attending to his guests.
She finished packing her goods from where it was scattered and then she took her beautiful dress to the laundry room where she cleaned it up as well as the tears in her eyes.
Her wolf was still livid but she couldn't do anything as Taylor insisted on them pretending they were weak.
Just as the Alpha told her, she was stronger than all of them combined together.
Celia didn't understand it because they were not Omegas but Taylor insisted on keeping their status hidden to avoid getting them in trouble.
The Alpha had only one child who was going to be the next Alpha and since he brought her back, some people were whispering that she was his illegitimate daughter.
This made him reduce how much he interacted with her to prevent a bigger problem.
Each year, she grew stronger and this made her seem like the child of an Alpha. If she revealed her strength, who knows what people would say?
So she always acted meek, and she hid her real scent with a hyssop and lime mixture that her wolf told her about after they discovered her possible status.
After her clothes dried, it was already late. The party was in full swing and some wolves were already drunk because of the anxiety.
You don't want to come all the way to another person's pack, especially this far up, and not meet your mate. Also, what if they were horrible to you? It was rare but sometimes, wolves are class climbers, if you are paired with someone who wants more than you are, there might be a rejection.
Rejections are highly frowned upon but it's not unheard of.
Taylor dressed nicely and wore her shoes while trying to summon the energy to be excited after the day's events.
“So much drama in one week, ugh” she told her wolf
“I hope it pays off. I hope he's not from this pack. I want to travel” Celia replied in anxious anticipation.
They got to the hall and instinctively, she went to adjust the table cloth on the big buffet dining which seemed to have been messed up by some drunk people.
“Shoo from there you silly girl. The night is young, go enjoy it. It may be your last night as a single woman” The head Cook, Mrs Rosie came from behind her and ordered her away from the table.
She smiled and went into the crowd.
Now, it was a masked party because people were supposed to connect to their mates by scents at midnight. Regardless of the scents or smells in the room, one's mate's scent always overpowers it. So when it is time, everyone will smell their way to their soul mates, or leave the ballroom if they smell nothing as it is going to become really awkward in there.
As expected, wolves are very sexual creatures so single people did not need to disturb their memories with such events so naturally, once you don't smell your mate in the hall, you leave.
The party was in full swing, people were dancing and Taylor joined the people.
By the time it struck midnight, she had danced, eaten, actually tasted alcohol, she hated it, and managed to dance with a few other male wolves.
It was the most fun she had ever had in her entire life.
In one second, she was smiling and panting from the excitement of the evening, in the next, she smelt it.
That scent could blind everything and she would not mind. It was overwhelming as her wolf was taking it all in as well.
The room was dizzy as everyone was moving. It was a rambunctious affair but it ended in 5 minutes.
Taylor found her mate but she wished she never did.
