Chapter 3 Haley Appears at the Brown family

Meanwhile, Pearl arrived at the Brown family Estate and quickly searched for the documents in the study.

Hathaway Brown, Oscar's mother, approached her, unkindly asking, "It's working hours, why did you come back?"

"We have a meeting soon, and I need to prepare the meeting materials," Pearl replied.

"Prepare materials? Why did you come back home then?" Hathaway rolled her eyes.

"I forgot the materials at home," Pearl explained patiently.

"You make such a basic mistake?" Hathaway looked at her with disgust. "I don't think you can help Oscar at all; you'll only hold him back!"

"As his wife, you haven't even given birth to a child for him. As his secretary, your work is a mess!"

"If you didn't owe us ten million dollars, I would have wanted Oscar to fire you!"

Hathaway scolded her for a full minute, pointing at her nose.

Pearl had no intention of arguing with her; she needed to find the documents quickly.

"Don't worry, I'll remember to repay it," she replied hastily and continued searching.

Initially, David had paid off a ten million debt for her father, Evans Harris. She wouldn't forget that.

"Remember? How are you going to repay it?" Hathaway sneered, looking disdainful. "Oscar should never have married you! Only Haley is worthy of being his wife!"

With that, Pearl felt a sharp pain in her heart.

"I'll tell you, Haley has returned, and Oscar will soon divorce you, and Haley will become his wife." Hathaway's voice grew sharper.

Upon hearing the word "divorce," Pearl's vision darkened, and she almost lost her balance.

"Divorce?" she asked, her voice trembling.

"Exactly, Divorce!" Hathaway snorted coldly. "You two should have divorced a long time ago! For all these years, you've been occupying the position of Oscar's wife. It's time to give that position back to Haley."

Pearl staggered for a moment. Although she knew she should divorce Oscar a long time ago, when it was about to become a reality, she found it hard to accept. She even wanted to save this fragile marriage.

Thinking back to last night, Pearl felt even more upset. Just as Hathaway finished speaking, Haley walked over.

"Hathaway, let's go have some cake together," Haley said.

Pearl subconsciously looked over and met Haley's charming face.

"What are you doing here?" Pearl asked, surprised, her expression shifting instantly.

"Why shouldn't I be here?" Haley looked uneasy, glancing cautiously at Hathaway. "Hathaway, did I do something wrong?"

"Haley, why shouldn't you be here? You came all the way back to see me, I'm thrilled!" Hathaway quickly approached, affectionately linking arms with Haley. "It's Pearl who shouldn't be here!"

"Oh, so this is Pearl. Although Oscar hasn't mentioned you to me, I've heard of you, being married to him," Haley smiled.

Invisible to Pearl, Haley subtly conveyed a message: as Oscar's wife, Pearl was not valued. Oscar didn't even want to mention her! Pearl could sense that Haley was intentionally or unintentionally declaring war on her. Perhaps she felt she was the one who truly belonged to Oscar.

"Pearl, would you like to join us for some cake?" Haley friendly extended an invitation.

"No, I have to go deliver these documents," Pearl took out the meeting materials. "I found them, I should head back to the office."

"Wait!" Hathaway stopped her. "Haley rarely visits, and you're leaving already. Is this how you treat an honored guest?"

"Hathaway, I need to deliver these documents, the meeting is about to start," Pearl said helplessly. Sometimes she felt Hathaway was being unreasonable.

"Are these meeting materials more important than Haley?" Hathaway glared at her fiercely, then turned to Haley, instantly changing her attitude. "Haley, what would you like to drink?"

"Just a cup of coffee," Haley said humbly.

"Pearl, go pour a cup of coffee for Haley!" Hathaway commanded.

"Hathaway, the documents..." Pearl tried to explain but was cut off by Hathaway.

"If I tell you to go, you go. Why dawdle?" Pearl fell silent and went to the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee.

Despite having many servants at home, Hathaway specifically asked her serve coffee to Haley. It was obvious that Hathaway was being intentional. Perhaps she wanted to show her appreciation for Haley.

Pearl felt uncomfortable, but she just wanted to quickly resolve the situation and deliver the documents to the company.

After pouring the coffee, Pearl returned to the living room and saw Hathaway and Haley chatting and laughing.

"Haley, you always hold a special place in my heart, Pearl just annoys me," Hathaway held Haley's hand. "Only someone as outstanding as you deserves Oscar."

"I'm still waiting for you and Oscar to get married and have a child," Hathaway joked.

"Hathaway, please stop kidding," Haley blushed and lowered her head.

Pearl watched them chatting happily, feeling a sense of despair. It was time to end this marriage that existed in name only.

Pearl walked up to Haley and handed her the cup.

"Thank you," Haley thanked her gently, but as she took the cup, she fumbled and exclaimed.

The glass fell to the ground, shattering into pieces. Some shards flew onto Pearl's legs, causing her pain.

"Pearl, what are you doing!" Hathaway yelled, glaring at Pearl. "Are you jealous of Haley, trying to harm her intentionally? How despicable of you!"

"I didn't mean to!" Pearl instinctively tried to explain.

"Hathaway, please don't be angry," Haley bent down to pick up the glass shards. "I'm sure Pearl didn't do it on purpose."

As she spoke, a shard cut Haley's finger, causing her to frown and inhale sharply.

"Haley, be careful!" Hathaway immediately pulled her up. "Don't hurt your hand, your hand are delicate."

"It's okay, Hathaway, don't be mad at Pearl. She probably just didn't hold the cup steady," Haley continued to explain for Pearl. But the more she explained, the angrier Hathaway became.

"Pearl, clean up these shards!" Hathaway ordered.

"We have servants at home, and I need to deliver the documents." Pearl's tone became firmer.

She had no intention of watching Haley's act.

"How dare you talk back?" Hathaway stepped forward, pulling her roughly. Pearl, wearing high heels, couldn't steady herself and fell to the ground. Her hand landed on the glass shards on the ground!

Blood flowed instantly, Pearl frowned in pain, her face turning pale.

Haley looked shocked, but a hint of satisfaction flashed in her eyes.

"Pearl, are you okay?" Haley asked with concern.

Pearl didn't respond, she silently got up, quickly removed the glass shards embedded in her flesh, wiped the blood off her hands with a tissue, and left with the documents.

"You better leave and never come back!" Hathaway continued to scold.

Pearl bit her lips, a fire burning in her heart, but she thought of the impending meeting and restrained the urge to argue with Hathaway.

That was enough! she had truly had enough of these past few years!

Soon, everything would come to an end.
