Chapter 4 Don't Want to Be Mrs. Robinson Anymore

In the office, Lauren sat on the couch, watching Quentin meticulously handle the documents his assistant handed him.

"What brings you here?" Quentin broke the silence.

Lauren suddenly didn't know how to start. She had been so determined just moments ago, but now she was flustered.

"What's wrong? You were just on the phone, and now you're mute?" Quentin looked at Lauren with a hint of amusement.

Hearing Quentin mention the call so nonchalantly, Lauren's heart tightened, making it hard for her to breathe.

In Quentin's eyes, she really didn't matter at all.

"Quentin, I came here today because I have something to tell you." Lauren said.

"Finally willing to speak?" Quentin's voice was indifferent.

"Can you come home more often and visit Grandma with me?" Lauren spoke nervously. Seeing Quentin remain silent, she added, "Don't worry, I don't mean anything else. It's just that Grandma's health is getting worse, and I think she'd be really happy to see you more often."

"Alright." Quentin looked at Lauren with a faint smile.

"You came all the way to the office just to tell me this?" Quentin stared at Lauren, skeptical.

"The thing I mentioned that night..." Lauren hesitated.

She had come today to try once more, to see if Quentin's attitude might change.

"Haven't I already told you?" Quentin's smile disappeared. "There's nothing more to say about it."

"Even if I'm pregnant, you'd still feel the same way?" Lauren was provoked by his cold demeanor and blurted out.

"You're pregnant?" Quentin's eyes sharpened as he turned to stare at Lauren.

"No, it's just a hypothetical." Lauren was startled by his reaction and quickly shook her head.

"That's good, otherwise we'd have to arrange a hospital visit immediately."Quentin looked away.

"A hospital visit, for what?" Lauren had a vague idea but didn't want to believe it.

As long as Quentin didn't say it outright, she still held onto a sliver of hope.

"To terminate it, what else? A prenatal checkup?" Quentin frowned at her, seemingly surprised she would ask further.

Lauren's heart sank to the bottom.

She instinctively touched her abdomen but quickly moved her hand away, realizing she couldn't let Quentin find out about the baby. She couldn't lose this child.

"Why?" Lauren's voice was hoarse.

"The mother of my child shouldn't be a scheming woman." Quentin glanced at Lauren coolly.

Lauren's face turned pale, and tears welled up in her eyes.

In his eyes, she was just a scheming woman, but she had married him out of love.

Seeing Lauren's reaction to his words, Quentin felt a tightness in his chest and grew irritated. "Just focus on being Mrs. Robinson and don't think about anything else."

Quentin's words seemed to reassure Lauren, telling her that her position as Mrs. Robinson wouldn't change.

Watching him have different scandals every day, entering and leaving hotels with various women, how could she focus?

"But I want a divorce, Quentin. I don't want to be Mrs. Robinson anymore." Lauren struggled to get the words out. No matter what, she couldn't give up on this child, even if it meant leaving him.

"You don't want it anymore? You saw me flirting with that woman today, so now you don't want it?" Quentin's anger erupted at the mention of divorce.

He was always the one rejecting others; no one had ever dared to reject him, especially not the position of Mrs. Robinson.

"Yes! Seeing you flirt with someone else disgusted me. I don't want to be Mrs. Robinson anymore. I don't want to be a nominal Mrs. Robinson, a shield for your affairs with other women!" Lauren's emotions broke down as he brought up the incident again, releasing years of suppressed pain.

"When you schemed for this position, you should have expected everything that came with it. You were silent before, but now that you've seen it firsthand, you're dissatisfied?" Quentin looked at Lauren, realizing he had completely misjudged her.

Lauren closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

She didn't want to recall what had just happened, but Quentin's words stabbed at her heart, replaying the scene of the nearly naked woman clinging to Quentin when she first entered the office.
