Chapter 8 What Made Her So Special?

She knew Adrian's temper well. He was clearly pissed off, probably because of how the Cullen family was treating the young maid.

With a sly smile, she said, "Adrian, are you interested in that maid from the Cullen family? If you're worried about her getting fired, I can bring her into our family."

Adrian smirked, thinking for a moment. "Not a bad idea."

"What?" Rachel swallowed hard. She was just joking, but Adrian took it seriously?

Rachel's eyes locked onto the woman outside the car window. She had to see for herself what made this woman so special that both her brothers were paying attention to her.

Meanwhile, Natalie was being dragged out of the villa by Daniel.

She struggled hard to free her wrist from his grip. "Daniel, let go of me."

Daniel was still angry. He stopped and asked, "Do the Cullen family always treat you like this? You don't have to stay here and take this. You can be a maid anywhere."

Natalie pressed her lips tightly together, not wanting to argue. Her face, already pale from the burn, looked even more ashen.

Daniel finally realized how rough he had been. Softening his tone, he said, "Sorry, I'm just saying you don't have to put up with this. I can help you find another job."

"Daniel," Natalie said with a bitter smile, "I'm fine here. I have things to do. Thanks for today."

Then, Natalie turned and went back into the villa.

Daniel had been showing up around her a lot lately. She knew what he wanted, but she was also aware that the gap between them was too wide.

Just as Daniel was about to follow her, a loud car horn blared.

Adrian stared at Daniel coldly, a warning flashing in his eyes.

Natalie walked into the living room and saw Curtis sitting on the couch.

She bowed apologetically. "Mr. Cullen, I'm sorry for the trouble today. I'll be more careful. Please don't make me leave."

Curtis gestured for her to sit down, speaking kindly, "Natalie, I've watched you grow up and I know your character. I won't ask you to leave. The Cullen family is your home."

"Thank you, Mr. Cullen," Natalie said, finally relaxing and allowing herself a small smile. Curtis then asked with concern, "How's your mother doing lately?"

"She's much better. The doctor says she's in good condition." She hesitated, not mentioning her mother's need for a kidney transplant.

Curtis had been close to her father, Stanley. After her father passed away, Curtis had always looked out for her and her mother. So she didn't want him to know about the things Avery and Alice had done to them.

Curtis nodded in understanding and handed her a bank card from his pocket. "That's good to hear. Take this money for now. I'll visit her when I have time."

"Dad!" Alice interrupted, clearly unhappy.

She had thought her father called Natalie to scold her.

Natalie waved her hand in refusal, but Curtis insisted, pressing the card into her hand.

Natalie hesitated, then gripped the card tightly. "Thank you, Mr. Cullen. If there's nothing else, I'll head to the hospital." She turned and left.

She heard Alice's dissatisfied voice from behind. "Dad, Natalie is always screwing things up. We should get a better maid."

Avery tried to say something, but Curtis cut her off. "You all know that Natalie's father died because of me. Now her mother is seriously ill. Do you really want me to kick her out?"

Before heading upstairs, he shot Avery a warning look. "Alice is young and thoughtless, but you are not. You know exactly how Stanley died."
