Chapter 4

BELINDA'S POV

I stared at the woman with raised eyebrows, “Unless you love being stuck like that, I don't see why not.” Not that anyone should complain when they’re glued to a fine specimen like The John Callahan.

If anyone told me I would be meeting News24’s Most Eligible Bachelor on my first emergency case, maybe I'd have made more attempts to dress better than dingy.

“I’m not allowing that darn liquid anywhere near my skin.” She shrieked.

Okay, so she's one of the crazy ones.

“Ma’am, at this point you don't have a choice. I can't separate you without using this.” I frowned. I'm a doctor, I can easily provide her treatment and it's not like the acetone isn't thoroughly diluted.

Mr. Callahan glanced at the table behind me and cocked his head towards it, “What are those for?”

I glanced back to see what caught his attention…nail polish. “It can help to unstick glue but I can't use it for you. It'll take hours. I'm sure you have somewhere important to be.”

So I didn't exactly say that I wasn't expecting you people naked with their privates glued together, but I'm guessing he knew what I meant.

“Yes, I do. Please hand me the acetone.” I stretched it out to me but the silly woman knocked it out of my hands, her eyes boiling with rage like I was the one behind the whole thing.

“I’m not letting that vile thing come anywhere near my skin.” She glared at Mr. Callahan, “I know you. You'll pour it all over my skin intentionally.”

He smirked like she’d caught him, it's not like he'll do–

“Wow sweetheart, I didn't know you had me all figured out.”

Okay, so he was going to do it.

“Miss, I promise, I will take good care of you. The longer that glue remains on your body, the larger your burns.” I began to slowly pacify her, not because I was concerned but because I was tired of my innocent eyes being fed the sight of two naked people I would never meet again.

This stupid scene has been forever ingrained in my head.

“I’ll treat you the minute you walk out of that bathroom.”

“No, you won't.”

“Sorry.” My head turned to him so fast that I was blurry for a second.

“You heard me. You're not doing anything to her. The minute she walks out of that bathroom, she's packing her thing and getting the fuck out of my hotel room.”

I stared at both of them, my eyes flickering between the two who were busy glaring daggers at each other.

The lady in question looked red in the face like she was going to explode any minute. And explode she did.

“John! Are you insane?” How dare you treat me like that?”

He looks at her with the coldest deadly gaze I've ever seen on a man.

Am I insane for thinking he looks even hotter with that smoldering gaze?

“I don't care if you drop dead from this super glue, you deserve it, however, I treat you.” His fingers clamped down on her jaw as he tilted her chin to look him in the eye.

Am I stuck in a lovers’ quarrel?

“ You should be thankful that I spared your life, although I'm rethinking that decision. So if you know what's best for you, you’ll tell the nice doctor over here where the anti-glue is or I can use this acetone on you. Your choice.”

Anti-glue?

Was this freak show planned?

It has to be because no matter how many times I wrap my head around it, I can't think of a way this would have happened if someone didn't apply it.

Maybe it's a fetish gone wrong? Rich people are known for doing the weirdest things.

Her eyes glistened with tears and my heart pitied her for a second, but he didn't even look moved to the tears in her eyes.

Is he as heartless as they say he is?

“You know what John Callahan, I hope you suffer miserably. I hope you see love and every single time, it shatters your heart to pieces. Your cold heart will be the beginning of your doom because you're just an ice statue that doesn't deserve to be loved.”

I turned to Mr. Callahan in time to see him close his eyes like he was frustrated from being with her for too long.

“I never said I wanted love darling, especially not yours. Now stop all the dramatic charade and make your choice or I will do it for you, Calista.”

Calista chuckled and took a deep breath, “There’s a hidden zip inside my dress.”

I picked up the white shirt gown that was draped over the chair and searched around for a zip.

“Found it.” I pulled it out and stared at the very tiny bottle.

“We just need to fill the tub with water and mix it in. Then dip in for five minutes and everything will come off.

Mr. Callahan grabbed the bottle and carried Calista into the bathroom. I pulled out the bottle of ointment I’d gotten from the pharmacist and quickly packed up my suitcase knowing that everything was finally sorted out.

It didn't take long for Calista to walk out of the bathroom and when she did she grabbed the clothes immediately.

“Here, take this.” I stretched out the bottle to her, “You need to–”

She raised her palm, “No thanks. I’ll manage.”

“But–”

She walked out.

I sighed and slumped my shoulders, this is more hectic than a day in the ER.

When Mr. Callahan walked out, I walked up to him and placed the bottle of ointment in his hands.

“You need to apply this on your burns to stop it from aggravating into something worse. I suggest you stay back for an hour or so when you're done.”

I glanced at my wristwatch, “I need to head back to the hospital. Take care.”

I walked away but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to him.

“What–”

He pulled out my hand and placed the ointment back in it.

“Apply it on me.”

“What!”
