Chapter 1 I Would Fulfill Your Wishes
At the international airport, Riley Monroe dragged her suitcase through security, giving one last, wistful look at the city she called home for over twenty years. Her heart was heavy with a mix of emotions.
"This city has given me so many bittersweet memories. Time to start fresh somewhere new. Donovan, from now on, we're done!" she told herself firmly.
As the plane taxied down the runway, a tear slipped from her eye, and her mind wandered back to the night before.
"Riley, you drugged me!" Donovan Wilder's eyes were cold, anger flashing as he realized what had happened.
Riley watched as Donovan's face flushed from the drug. She undressed, revealing her delicate skin, and climbed onto his bed.
"Mr. Wilder, after tonight, I won't be your wife anymore!" Riley said, her slender fingers undressing Donovan as she leaned in to kiss him, their naked bodies sending shivers through her.
Donovan gripped her hands, flipped her over, and pressed her beneath him, gritting his teeth. "Fine, if that's what you want!"
The pain was intense. Riley bit her lip hard, trying to keep control, but tears still escaped. The physical pain was nothing compared to the heartache from Donovan's words on their wedding day, "The person I want to marry is Hollis Sutton. You are not worthy of being my wife!"
Riley had believed that if she treated Donovan with sincerity, she could win him over. She entered the marriage with determination, but in seven years, Donovan had never touched her. That night was her first sexual experience, and she decided it would be the last time she obsessed over Donovan.
"Why aren't you reacting? Isn't this what you wanted?" Donovan's eyes were filled with anger. If it weren't for the drug, he wouldn't have touched Riley at all. Seeing her pitiful act made him feel disgusted.
Riley's eyes were red as she tried to stay silent, while Donovan intensified his force. The pain made her bite her lip until it bled, the metallic taste of blood spreading through her mouth.
'Donovan, what am I to you? I've given you my heart for seven years, and you still don't care.' With this thought, her tears soaked the pillow as she remembered her birthday when Donovan used work as an excuse to spend the evening watching fireworks with another woman. That was when she realized she needed to let go.
Riley closed her eyes, enduring the pain of his non-consensual act.
The next morning, when Donovan woke up, his first thought was of killing Riley. As the esteemed president of the Wilder Group, he had never been outmaneuvered before. It was inconceivable that he had fallen into Riley's trap. He would certainly not let her get away with it.
However, he searched the room but found no trace of Riley. Sitting up, he saw the divorce papers and a note from Riley on the bedside table: "Mr. Wilder, these are the divorce papers. I'm letting you go. Don't look for me; I've already left. —Riley."
"Riley, you're getting more cunning by the day!" Donovan's eyes were icy as he grabbed the papers and tore them to shreds, throwing them on the floor.
First, she drugged him and had sex with him, and now she was pulling a disappearing act. He had been too lenient with her, letting her act so recklessly.
With this realization gnawing at him, Donovan quickly got dressed and stormed downstairs, his voice cold. "Chase! Have you seen Riley?"
"Mr. Wilder, Mrs. Wilder left early this morning with her luggage," the butler, Chase, said, lowering his head, afraid Donovan would lose his temper.
Hearing this, Donovan was stunned. He stood there, grappling with the reality of her departure.
Six years later, in a research lab, Riley had just finished a grueling three-day experiment. As she took off her outer coat and washed her hands, images of her two little ones' smiling faces popped into her mind.
She hadn't seen them for a few days and wondered if they missed her. Despite the exhaustion, Riley felt a deep sense of happiness. A soft, contented smile appeared on her lips.
Six years ago, after leaving The Wilder Villa, Riley had gone abroad to study. To her surprise, she had discovered she was pregnant!
Her first thought was to terminate the pregnancy, but when she went to the hospital and saw that tiny little dot on the ultrasound, she hesitated.
After a lot of thinking, she decided to keep the baby. And it turned out to be twins! She named them Landon and Winston.
As Riley stepped out, her assistant Linda approached. "Dr. Monroe, Prof. Hart wants to see you in his office."
Upon hearing this, Riley, who had been feeling a bit drowsy, was jolted awake; Chandler Hart usually didn't contact her, but when he did, it was never good news.
"Did Professor Hart mention what he wanted to talk to me about?" She inquired, probing further. "Could it be those two kids causing trouble again?"
Linda sympathetically replied, "Probably."
Riley, a rising star in the medical field, was known for her competence and meticulousness. Chandler was very fond of her and never had to worry about her work, but her two little troublemakers often caused issues.
Seeing the concern on Riley's face, Linda quickly comforted her. "You've been in the lab for three days and nights. It's normal for them to be a bit upset. They're just worried about you."
Linda admired Riley's dedication, which had brought her great success at a young age. She also had a soft spot for Riley's children, who added both challenges and joy to Riley's life. Riley truly adored them, and Linda could see why.
Despite the comforting words, Riley felt a pang of dread at the thought of facing Chandler's scolding for her children's antics. With these thoughts, she headed towards Chandler's office.
