Chapter 6 - I like you
After the tumultuous events of the evening, Giselle felt overwhelmed and disoriented. She retreated to her guest room, her head spinning with a whirlwind of confusion and disbelief. Sitting on the edge of the bed, she rubbed her temples in an attempt to soothe the throbbing headache that had taken hold.
As she tried to make sense of the chaos that had unfolded, a gentle knock sounded on her door, followed by the creak of the hinges as it swung open. Shane entered the room, his presence commanding yet strangely comforting in the midst of Giselle's turmoil.
"Giselle, thank you for accepting my offer," Shane said softly, his voice carrying a hint of gratitude.
Giselle looked up, her eyes wide with apprehension. "M-Mr. David, actually I am so confused… I am here for an interview… Then now I will become your mate… and you are a werewolf? It is all real?"
Shane nodded solemnly, taking a seat beside her on the bed. "Yes, Giselle. I am the alpha of the Silver Stone Moon Pack. As I mentioned before, I will not force you to mate with me, but I do ask for your help. Marry me so that the pack will stop pressuring me to find a mate."
Giselle's head was spinning with disbelief. She struggled to process the revelation that Shane was not only a billionaire but also a werewolf, and that she was being thrust into the midst of a supernatural world she had never known existed.
"I... I don't know what to say," Giselle stammered, her mind racing with a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. "This is all so overwhelming. How can I possibly make such a decision?"
Shane reached out, gently taking her hand in his. "I understand, Giselle. It's a lot to take in. But know that I would never ask this of you lightly. The pack's traditions and expectations weigh heavily on me, but I will respect whatever decision you make."
"How am I supposed to report on you now?" she asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "Can I reveal that you're a werewolf?"
Shane's smile was weak, his expression troubled as he considered her question. "For now, Giselle, I would prefer if you didn't reveal that information. The other packs can be ruthless, and I fear for our safety if they were to learn the truth about us. What's important to me right now is finding a wife."
Giselle frowned, her mind reeling at the implications of Shane's words. "So, you only accepted the interview because you had a plan to offer me the role of your wife?"
Shane nodded, his gaze shifting away momentarily before returning to meet Giselle's. "I know it may seem calculated, Giselle, but the truth is, when I was considering who to choose as my mate, I saw you on TV reporting. There was something about you that caught my eye, and the more I watched, the more I realized that I liked you."
Giselle felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment at Shane's admission. "Y-You like me?" she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Shane's handsome face lit up with a warm smile. "Of course, Giselle. I've admired your work from afar, and the more I got to know you during our interview, the more I realized how much I truly like you."
Giselle couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in her chest at Shane's words, her heart skipping a beat at the thought of someone as powerful and enigmatic as him expressing interest in her.
Shyly, she lowered her gaze, her cheeks still flushed with embarrassment. "I... I don't know what to say," she admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty.
Shane reached out, gently lifting her chin so that their eyes met once again. "There's no need to say anything, Giselle. I understand if this is all overwhelming for you. But know that I am sincere in my feelings for you, and I would never pressure you into anything you're not comfortable with."
As Giselle sat in the guest room, her head spinning with the whirlwind of events that had transpired, she couldn't help but voice her concerns to Shane. "But what about your pack, Shane? Will they accept me? I'm just a pure human."
Shane's expression softened as he reassured her, his voice calm and steady. "Giselle, you don't need to worry about them. They may have their doubts and reservations, but they cannot stop me from making my own decisions. And I've made it clear that you are the one I've chosen."
Giselle couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude towards Shane for his unwavering support, but still, she couldn't shake off her doubts and confusion. "I just don't understand, Shane," she admitted, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "I saw so many beautiful women at the gathering tonight. Why me? Why choose someone like me, a mere human?"
Shane's gaze softened as he reached out to gently grasp Giselle's hand, his touch comforting and reassuring. "Giselle, beauty is not the only factor I consider when choosing a mate. Yes, those women may be beautiful, but every family has their own agenda for wanting their daughter to be my mate."
Giselle furrowed her brow in confusion, her mind racing to make sense of Shane's words. "What do you mean by agenda?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Shane sighed, a hint of frustration flashing across his features. "Many of those families have ulterior motives, Giselle. They see an opportunity to gain power and influence by having their daughter marry the alpha of the Silver Stone Moon Pack. But for me, it's not about power or influence. It's about finding someone who truly understands me and accepts me for who I am."
Giselle nodded slowly, beginning to understand the complexity of the situation. She had always known that Shane's position as alpha came with its own set of challenges, but she hadn't realized the extent to which his decisions were influenced by the expectations of others.
"But why me, Shane?" she pressed, her voice filled with a mixture of curiosity and uncertainty. "What is it about me that made you choose me as your mate?"
Shane's gaze softened as he met Giselle's eyes, his expression tender and sincere. "Giselle, from the moment I saw you, there was something about you that drew me in. Your intelligence, your passion, your compassion for others... I saw glimpses of all these qualities during our interview, and I knew that you were someone special."
Giselle felt her cheeks flush with warmth at Shane's words, a flutter of excitement stirring within her at the realization that she had captured his attention in such a profound way.
