SCHOOL DAYS AND FUTURE FEARS
Freda’s POV
I dressed up pretty fast for someone that hated going to school. I stared at my reflection in the mirror and took in a deep breath as if I was about to prepare myself to enter a battle. Thing is, attending Moon stone high was always a battle for me. A battle to stay sane and not lose my cool, a daily struggle of sorts. With another sigh, I picked up my bag and opened the front door and headed for school.
I walked through the corridors clutching my bag and ignoring the hushed whispers and scornful remarks about me as usual, I made my way to the front door of the Alpha pack house and I bumped into Hector and his goons.
“Damn, can’t I get a break?” A headache started coming in as I really didn’t have the strength for this upcoming confrontation. I tried to walk past them but fat boy Hector blocked my way with a stupid grin on his face.
“I saw you leave the meeting room crying like a wimp yesterday. Tell me, what got you so worked up? Cry baby.” Hector drawled with his annoying voice. I really did not have time to deal with this shit, I was late for school.
I did the first thing that came to my mind in that situation. I walked up right to his face and glared at him, he stared right back at me with that silly grin but not a second passed when his expression changed into one of pain as he bent down to clutch his testicles. Yes, I kicked his balls so hard he doubled over with a pained expression on his face. He bit his lips, urging himself not to cry and his goons all stood there in shock. Some goons they were.
“Listen fat boy, I’m going to make this very clear. Get off my case, I don’t know what your game is but stop it right now. Or else, I wouldn’t care that you’re the Beta’s son. I’ll make sure my father exiles you, you bastard.” I pulled out the same empty threat that worked last time, I knew my father wouldn’t do shit even if I begged him too but against brain dead peeps like Hector over here the threat worked all the time.
After saying my piece, I raised my head up high and walked out of the pack house with as much pride I could muster.
The walk from the Alpha’s house to the moonstone academy was just a 20 minutes walk, I could have opted to hitch a ride on one of the cars but I needed to clear my mind and calm my thoughts
I walked for about 30 minutes before I got to school. I dragged my feet along the way, purposefully making the trip a bit longer so I wouldn’t have to set my sights on Moonstone academy yet here I was, standing in front of the imposing iron gates. I always felt like this was less of a school and more like a medieval fortress, they really went overboard to construct such a massive structure just for the sake of education.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the bustling establishment. Students milled about conversing excitedly about various topics and I was the only one alone in the crowd but I didn’t mind, as long as I wasn’t noticed then I would be alright. I put on the hoodie on my sweater and silently made my way through the crowd of students.
As I made my way towards the main building, a hand grabbed my shoulder and I flinched. I turned around abruptly with a panicked look on my face but when I saw a smiling face smiling back at me, I was relieved.
It was Kara. Did I mention I was entirely alone previously? Well scratch that I was wallowing in my depressive thoughts. I was technically not alone as I had Kara, she was the only friend I had ever since coming to this supernatural realm. While other werewolves treated me like shit, she was the one that showed me kindness and a hand of friendship which I took after much hesitation. We’ve been close friends ever since.
“Hey there. You look shaken up.” Kara smiled at me. She was a pretty girl with long obsidian hair that came down behind her like a black waterfall and the most beautiful pair of amber eyes.
“Of course I’m shaken up. A lot…a lot has happened.” I said hesitantly. I didn’t know whether I could tell Kara about my rejection letter and my participation in the meeting with the notorious vampire king. I mean why would you even make that sort of messed up request? Why request the presence of every single Alpha daughter to make an appearance to a supposed ‘meeting’ all in the name of finding a way to make peace. The situation just didn’t make sense and it had danger signs written all over it.
“What happened Freda? You know you can tell me anything right?” Kara asked with a concerned look on her face. I chide myself, questioning why I wanted to keep my problems to myself from someone who shared everything about herself with me. it just didn’t seem right.
“I got rejected, Kara.” I said with a low tone. “After everything, all that hard work, after even sacrificing my life by sneaking to and fro to write the entrance exams. I still got rejected, pathetic isn’t it?” I laughed at myself in self-mockery.
“I’m so sorry to hear about this Freda. I know how you were looking forward to this. I’m really sorry but they’re going to regret not accepting you.” Kara said while placing a gentle hand on my shoulder.
“Oh you haven’t heard the worst part, Kara.” I remarked with irritation.
“What could possibly be worse than getting rejected from the college of your dreams? Is your step mom acting up again?” Kara raised an eyebrow as she questioned me.
“Did your pack have a diplomatic meeting concerning the directive from the vampire king?” I fired her back with a question.
“Well, yeah. Our Alpha had already selected one of his daughters to go with him. What ‘s up with th…” Kara placed a hand on her chin and said before she widened her eyes in shock as she understood my drift. “Wait, don't tell me your father selected you to go with him?” She asked with shock in her eyes.
“Apparently.” I said as I nodded my head.
“They have always been pricks to you, so why would they choose you for this? Why didn’t they pick their dear Lily for this?” Kara asked furiously. I felt appreciation well up inside me when I saw her reaction. It showed that I really wasn’t alone here. I had someone who had my back.
“Apparently they were looking for a sacrificial lamb and the half human happened to be readily available.” I chuckled, mocking myself silently.
Kara looked at me with an expression full of pity and sympathy. She opened her mouth to say something but she was interrupted by the sound of a familiar and seriously annoying voice.
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the half human.”
