If He Likes You, He’ll Call You.

If He Likes You, He’ll Call You

“Hey, Nora. It’s Gwen.” Gwen’s cheerful voice came through the phone.

“Oh, hi Gwen.”

“I hope I’m not bothering you.”

“Not at all. I was just about to make breakfast.”

“Oh, you just woke up?”

“Yes.”

“Forgive me, but I couldn’t resist calling to hear about your date, because my own date isn’t very interesting.”

“I have nothing to tell you. We just sailed on Max Carusso’s yacht and had dinner at Baccarat.”

“Oh, it’s amazing! Let’s meet up for lunch today. You can spill all the details.”

Nora hesitated for a moment, but then realized she had nothing to lose. “Sure. Where should we meet?”

“How about Savor and Sip Cafe? Around 12.30?”

“Sure, Gwen. See you then.” Nora agreed.

After breakfast, Nora sat alone on her old sofa in her barely lit apartment.

Her mind was occupied with questions from last

She couldn’t get rid of the bad feeling in her chest since she accidentally eavesdropped on Leon’s conversation.

The word ‘murder’ repeated in her mind, haunting her with questions of Leon change.

‘What murder? Who was killed?’

“Meow,” he jumped onto her lap, asking to be petted.

Her eyes looked around the room, but her mind was busy with something else.

Apparently the close relationship between Leon and his sister-in-law was more complicated.

They seemed to be planning something. What could Leon possibly mean by murder? Was it just a misunderstanding? Or was there something darker he was hiding?

Mojo curled up on her lap and purred softly. Finally Nora’s hand stroked her cat’s head. “You know what, Mojo, the most attractive man I’ve ever met is very suspicious. I heard him say he wasn’t involved in a murder, but who knows the truth? Whether he did or not, I have my opinions about who he is. One, he might be a secret agent, considering he works for the Department of State. Two, he could be a member of the mafia, given his family’s wealth and power. And if he’s one of those, I’ll stop hoping to date him again...”

Nora shook her head in shame. “Gee, sorry, Mojo. Apparently I was overconfident, as if he’d be willing to date me again.”

The cat meowed softly and rubbed its head against Nora’s hand.

“Do you think I should ask Leon directly?”

Her hand trembled slightly as she reached for her phone on the table, considering whether she should call Leon and ask him about what she overheard.

However, the voice in her head advised her to be cautious and not rush to conclusions.

She barely knew Leon, and accusing him of something so evil…

“Damn it!” she cursed. “I feel like I found something dangerous.”

With a heavy sigh, she leaned back on her worn sofa that had been torn apart by Mojo’s claws.

Nora arrived on time at Savor and Sip. If there’s one thing people love about her, it’s being on time.

A lot of brands invite her to collaborate or continue endorsement partnerships with Nora because of this advantage.

To meet Gwen that day, Nora didn’t dress up much.

Her hand was clutching a small leather bag, a near-perfect copy of the Gushi original.

She stepped into the café, which was not too full. A waitress recognized her from watching her live broadcasts on Instagram.

“Hello Miss Williams, how may I help you?” She greeted Nora with a smile.

“Hello. I’m looking for my friend Gwen Nelson. Is she here yet?”

“Yes, she’s here. Please follow me."

Gwen was already sitting in one corner. She had apparently spotted Nora from afar and waved to her. “Hi, Nora.”

“Hello, Gwen.”

“How are you, darling?” Gwen got up and kissed Nora’s cheek.

“Not too bad. A little stressed lately, but who isn’t.”

“You’re stressed? No way. By the way, you’re beautiful.”

“Thank you. You’re beautiful too, I love your dress. Is it Valentino?” Nora sat across Gwen. “Glad you invited me, Gwen.”

“Let’s sit down. Yes, I’m also glad we got to meet again after the charity party. You know, our friends called me after that night. They all envied us for having the bright idea to auction off dates. Especially you, since Leon Carusso won the auction for a date with you.”

“It was your idea,” said Nora. “Besides, you surprised me too and I thought you were crazy.”

Gwen laughed. “Nora, don’t be rigid. A little adventure is good for life experience, you know.”

Nora remembered her initially fun date and the mystery she discovered at the end of it.

She smiled faintly.

Gwen called the waiter and they started ordering food. They both admitted that they were not very hungry.

"So, what shall we order?" Gwen glanced at Nora, with a conspiratorial little smirk at the corner of her lips. "Don't tell me you're on a diet."

"I'm not." Nora smiled. "I had too much breakfast this morning."

"Oh, interesting!" Gwen smiled. "What made you so hungry after dating Leon Carusso?"

"Not what you think." Nora was evasive.

In fact, she was eating a large packet of potato chips while thinking about the mystery of Leon Carusso that had been bothering her.

There was something inside her that made her think about it, and it was strange because she usually never meddled in other people's business.

Gwen chuckled. "How about we share a light meal?" Gwen asked.

"Sounds good. I agree."

Gwen turned to the waiting waiter and told him their order.

He also ordered soft drinks for himself and Gwen.

When the waiter left, she turned back to Nora. "Well, my dear. Let's talk about your date."

For Nora, Gwen was a colleague. A fellow influencer who has collaborated with the same brands several times.

They were not very close as friends, but being in the same social circle they had many friends in common and went to the same parties.

Gwen was always surrounded by friends who seemed to be loyal to her.

Meanwhile, Nora didn’t have a single person she could really call a friend.

It’s not that she didn’t want to have them, but she had to protect the fake life she had created so far.

All this time Nora didn’t know anyone good enough to trust.

Gwen had always been kind to her, even though they rarely saw each other these days due to their busy schedules.

Gwen’s warm attitude since the charity party made Nora grateful, but it was not enough to make her the person she confide her anxieties about Leon Carusso to.

So she decided to tell Gwen only the things she wanted to hear. About her date with Leon.

“Great date, Nora. While my date with James O’Connor was nothing compared to yours.”

“But you said he was handsome.”

“He was indeed handsome...” Gwen sighed, made up. “Actually no less handsome than Leon Carusso. It’s just that he’s boring, and keeps trying to get me into bed.” Gwen rolled her eyes.

“Did he succeed?”

“Do you think I sold myself for $50,000?”

Gwen glared fiercely.

“That’s exactly what I thought yesterday when I was with Leon.”

“Oh, did he not try to seduce you?” Gwen brought her face closer to Nora with interest, like a gossip.

Nora shook her head. “No, he didn’t. Not at all.”

“Really?” Gwen looked disappointed.

“Maybe all the rumors are true.” She pinched her lower lip and looked thoughtful. “Nora, have you heard the rumors about Leon Carusso?”

Nora’s heart skipped a beat, as if reminded of Leon’s conversation she overheard that night.

She shook her head quickly. “No, I haven’t. About what?”

“The possibility that Leon Carusso is gay,” Gwen whispered.

“What?” Nora didn’t know what to feel. Happy that Leon wasn’t rumored to be a murderer, or disappointed that Leon was allegedly gay. “You must be joking.”

Gwen laughed. “Oh, look. There’s someone who looks disappointed.” Her hand brushed the air in a nonchalant manner. “It’s just a rumor, because Leon Carusso seems to be rarely seen with women. That’s why we were all shocked when he participated in your date auction that night. Don’t worry.” Gwen blinked one eye. “I think Leon Carusso is a straight man.”

“I’m not worried.” Nora took a sip of her drink. “We won’t see each other again anyway.”

“He hasn’t called you since last night?”

“No. And I don’t expect anything, Gwen. Yesterday’s date was just business, right?”

“I don’t think so for you.” Gwen’s eyes narrowed as she looked closely at Nora’s face. “You like him, right? Don’t worry, if he likes you too, he’ll call you soon.”

Ten o’clock at night.

Nora had just finished her live to greet her followers. Her phone rang with an unknown number glowing on her screen.

“Hello?”

“Hello, Miss Williams.” It was Gina’ Arnold’s voice. “I hope I’m not interrupting your time. I wanted to deliver Mr. Leon’s message to you...”
