Chapter Six
*Evelyn’s POV:
It had been a few days since I spilled it all to Sana and she helped me plan. Today was the day before the ball. I hadn't talked to Grey much since I allowed Kelly to move in. He has spent most of his time away. He came into our bedroom, which had passively become my room, and asked me if we could talk. “Sure can.” I said, in a good mood. I was waiting for Sana to come so I could pick the perfect dress for the ball. I wanted something that would grab the attention of the other leaders. I hadn't felt like dressing up for some time, and I was excited to do that. “I thought since she was new to all this, I could escort Kelly to the ball, if that would be okay with you?” I wasn't shocked by his question, instead I tried to refrain from laughing. I knew this was coming. I knew because it had happened before. “I think that's a nice idea. I will still be attending of course.” I placed my hand on his and walked away, grabbed my phone, and sent Sana a “hurry” text. He quietly walked out of the room. Our relationship was mostly invisible at this point, and I think he was feeling it as well. Sana messaged me back telling me she was coming through the gate. I felt the bit of despair wash away again being replaced with excitement. I pulled open my closet walking back towards my formal gowns. There were gowns in there I hadn't worn, still new with tags. There were so many. I used to attend so many more dinners, and events. I hadn't been in for so long. It was something I truly enjoyed about this lifestyle.
“EVE!” Sana yelled from the bedroom. “You better be in here. Your prince charming told me you were while he sits in there with his little succubus.” Her sarcasm is obvious. “I am in the closet.” I listened for her response but when I turned around, she was already walking up behind me. “You pick a few and I will try them on.” I smiled knowing that giving her the power was just as exciting for her. She has always enjoyed playing dress up. I walked out of the closet, pointing to the one dress that I was saving as planned the night before. I knew Kelly would have some way to manipulate the situation, as she did in my past life. So, the best one was hidden in the back of my closet. The one Sana and I had already decided on would be a jaw dropper. This was mostly for fun, and for show. Though, if we found something better, I would surely change my mind. She started sifting through dresses as I walked out of the closet and ready myself for a fashion show. I threw my hair up in a messy bun and took off my tennis shoes. When she walked out all I could see was lace, velvet, and satin. “Is San in there somewhere or has my closet formed a life of its own?” I said giggling. The dresses giggled as well. “Listen, with all of them clothes, it most definitely could.” She threw the dresses on the bed. “Get to modeling bitch!” She said laughing loudly at her own comment. I rolled my eyes at her before grabbing the first dress and heading to the bathroom. I switched on the stereo, playing some 90’s R&B before going into the bathroom. We laughed and laughed while I modeled each one. I pulled out all of my very best Madonna “Vogue” impersonations.
The last dress I put on was a beautiful gown. I had bought it for a banquet dinner for the higher of society folks my dad associated with. I didn't end up going. That was the first night my father started to feel weak. We cancelled and the beautiful dress. It was a royal blue formal gown, sophisticated and flowing sparkly dress which hugged my curves in all the right ways. It looked like it was made specifically for my body. I walked around in it, dramatically strutting my stuff for my best friend. Sana looked past me and walked over to turn my stereo down. I got a sick feeling before I even turned around. “Wow, Ms. Moretti, That dress is beautiful.” I heard her voice before I saw her face. “Thank you, Kelly.” I said looking straight at Sana trying my best not to roll my eyes. “I truly love it. You look so beautiful!” I walked to the full-length mirror and smiled, thanking her again. She walked over towards me, and I saw Sana instinctively take a step closer to me as well. She reached out to touch the fabric, turned green, and vomited all down the front of me. “Ohhhh!” Sana yelled out. I backed up, almost vomiting myself. “I am so sorry! So so so sorry. I've been so sick lately, this baby, I think she kicked it out of me.” She said wiping her mouth with her sleeve. “Your dress. I ruined it. Can I get it cleaned? I can. It may not be ready by the ball tomorrow though. I am so sorry.” Kelly kept apologizing but Sana and I knew she wasn't sorry. “It’s okay doll. Let me go get cleaned up.” I said, turning towards the bathroom smiling at Sana, who smiled back at me, both of us knowing what was really happening. If Sana was completely convinced what I have told her is true, the more she sees what I say come to light, the more she will believe. I could hear Kelly still apologizing from the bedroom while I stripped off what I was wearing and jumped in a hot shower.
When I walked back out of the bathroom Kelly was gone. Sana was sitting on the bed looking at her phone. “Cleaner?” She said as I walked up to her. I rolled my eyes shaking my head yes. The carpet was clean as if nothing happened. “Greta?” I asked, Sana nodded. “That girl is something.” Sana stood up walking towards the door. I hated to see her leave. I never felt like I could be myself anymore unless she was around. “I told you.” I replied looking down at the floor. “It’s going to be okay Evelyn. You will come out on top. I haven't seen you this focused in so long. Focus does something amazing to you my friend, it's like your superpower. I hope you have a wonderful time at the ball. I wanna hear all about it. Loves you.” She smiled at me, “Loves you more.” When she called me Evelyn, I knew she was being sincere. I decided to turn it in for the night. I didn't want dinner, to sit in there with the man who betrayed me and the woman I know will try to kill me. Besides, I wanted to be rested for the ball. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep.
I woke up before the others and grabbed some coffee and a Danish. Afterwards I stayed in my room most of the day trying to remember some of the names of the other leaders I needed to commune with. Before I knew it, it was time to start getting ready to go. I pulled out the dress that Sana and I had hidden in the back of the closet. Black, sleek, and tailored for my body. It came to my knee and had a slit up to my hip. It was beautiful. It pushed my breast up and hugged my butt perfectly. I felt sexy as soon as I slipped it on. Even more so with the matte black stilettos. I sat at the vanity and put on my make up. A smokey eye with dark black liner. Black mascara, and a red tint on my lips. I used a highlighter to bring out some of the glow, and I was almost ready to go. I grabbed a black lace shawl and threw it over my shoulder, my purse, and my phone before heading down the hallway. I could hear Grey and Kelly laughing in the foyer by the door. I stopped and listened in for a moment. “Grey, thank you so much for the dress and for taking me to this. Don't I look amazing?” It didn't take long for him to almost moan in response. “Damn Kelly, you look gorgeous baby.” I almost threw up in my mouth. “Evelyn, darling, we are going to be late. Hurry please.” He yelled shortly after, making my urge to vomit stronger. I took a deep breath and released it before walking into the foyer with my head held high. When I walked in, I could visibly see Grey suck in a breath. He looked at me up and down, and regret burned in his eyes. At that moment, he wanted to take me to the ball. Too bad for him, he chose poorly. I looked beside him to see a look of surprise, and a direct stare of jealousy on Kelly’s face.
