Chapter 2 Rent a Boyfriend
At this moment, Andrea's phone rang. She took it out, glanced at the caller ID, and said bitterly to Arthur, "My mom is calling again. It must be that man complaining about me."
Ever since Eve forced Andrea to go on blind dates, she has received complaints from her blind date almost every time.
It wasn't because Andrea was too picky, but she didn't want to be a casual person. Andrea thought marriage was a lifelong commitment. If she were to marry a strange man who wanted her to earn money and be a free nanny, she might as well not get married.
Arthur smiled and said, "You can explain it to your mom."
Andrea complained, "My mom never listens to my explanations." After her complaint, she still had to answer the call.
As soon as she picked up the phone, Eve said directly, "Andrea, I've told you many times. You're already twenty-four. If you don't hurry, the good men will be taken by younger girls! Max is so good. How could you throw a cup of coffee at him? What about your manners? Mr. Bird said that if you apologize to him, he will forgive you and try to pursue a relationship with you."
After a pause, Eve added, "Our neighbor, Carrie Allen, has already married a wealthy man! I'm not asking you to marry a rich man. I only want you to get married soon so that I don't have to worry about you all the time."
After Eve finished, Andrea helplessly said, "Mom, I'm only twenty-four, not thirty-four. I'm still young. And Keith is already twenty-nine. Why don't you pressure him to get married?"
Eve angrily said, "I can't pressure him."
Andrea was speechless, thinking, 'If my mom can't pressure Keith, she pressures me instead. It is so unfair.'
"Mom, Max is a very strange man. He wants me to apologize to him. That's impossible. Even if I can't get married, I would never consider him. Carrie didn't get married, and she became someone's mistress. Do you think I don't know the truth? The man she's with could be her father's age, and he's not a tycoon, just someone who owns two rental properties. If Carrie is capable, she should marry..."
Andrea covered the phone with her hand and whispered to Arthur, "Who is a?"
There were many wealthy people in Aborina because it was a metropolitan city.
Arthur also lowered his voice and replied, "The Deross family is the wealthiest and most prestigious in Aborina. Their company is the Glory Group, with business operations nationwide."
Andrea immediately said to Eve, "If Carrie has the ability, she should marry into the Deross family. She's just someone's mistress. Do you want me to become someone's mistress too?"
"Don't talk nonsense! Even if you can't get married, I'm willing to support you for a lifetime, but I won't allow you to be someone else's mistress," Eve scolded and then quickly commanded Andrea, "Tomorrow is Saturday. Close your store temporarily and come back to meet another blind date. I've seen his photo, and he looks very good."
Andrea said helplessly, "Mom, you don't even give me a moment to catch my breath."
"If you don't want me to pressure you, find a boyfriend. I consulted a fortune teller, and the fortune teller said that if you don't get married this year, you'll never meet your true love and will end up lonely," Eve said firmly.
Andrea thought, 'Mom actually believes in fortune telling now.'
"Andrea, are you listening? Don't leave your phone on the table," Eve shouted.
"Mom, I'm listening. How could I dare to neglect your call? Mom, fortune telling can't predict the future accurately. If it could, then ask him to predict tomorrow night's lottery numbers. I'll put all my savings on it."
Arthur listened to their conversation and chuckled, but when Andrea looked at him, he quickly cleared his throat and pretended to cough.
Finally, Andrea managed to appease Eve. After hanging up the phone, she rested her head on the table, looking exhausted.
"Arthur, when do you think this kind of life for me will end? I get scared every time the phone rings now," Andrea complained. Then she sat up straight, looking at Arthur. Facing Arthur's smiling blue eyes, she blinked and then looked him up and down.
Arthur had well-defined features, elegant manners, and a gentle temperament.
After a moment of contemplation, Andrea suddenly asked, "Arthur, you and Keith are the same age, right? Are you married?"
Arthur smiled gently and said, "Keith and I are the same age, both twenty-nine. I'm unmarried and don't have a girlfriend."
Andrea nodded and said, "Don't your parents urge you to get married? You're already twenty-nine. Why don't you have a girlfriend?"
"I told my parents that I would consider marriage after I turned thirty. As for girlfriend..." He looked at Andrea and replied gently, "Maybe it's because I haven't met the woman I want to marry yet."
Andrea nodded again. She stared at Arthur for a long time, hesitated for a few minutes, and finally tentatively asked Arthur, "Arthur, can I rent you to pretend to be my boyfriend?"
Seeing Arthur's panicked expression, Andrea quickly said, "Don't worry. I will pay you well. I won't interfere with your personal life. We can sign an agreement. When you turn thirty, we will terminate the agreement. Then we can break up peacefully."
Arthur remained silent for two minutes, gazing intently at her beautiful face. In a low voice, he asked, "Are you sure you want to rent me as your boyfriend?"
Andrea nodded. She thought to herself, 'A man like Arthur will surely satisfy my mother. He is much better than those so-called excellent men introduced to me.'
"What if your mother approves of me and urges us to get married?" Arthur asked.
Andrea smiled and said, "As long as I have a boyfriend, my mother won't urge me to get married in the short term."
Although Eve always urged Andrea to get married, once Andrea really had a boyfriend, Eve would definitely observe for a while to avoid her ending up with a jerk.
Arthur picked up the ice water in front of him and took a few sips. After setting down the glass, he tapped the table with his fingers. After a while, he said, "Why don't we just get married?"
Andrea blinked. She tentatively asked, "Arthur, do you mean we should get fake married directly? But if we don't have a marriage certificate, my mother won't believe it."
Arthur readily replied, "I can go with you to City Hall to get a marriage certificate."
"But once we have a marriage certificate, it won't be a fake marriage anymore," Andrea replied. Andrea knew that once they went to City Hall to complete the formalities, they would be legally married, not in a fake marriage.
Arthur smiled and said, "You were the one who suggested renting me as your boyfriend. We can sign an agreement."
