Chapter 4 Flash Marriage
The man glanced at Arthur and found that Arthur did not object to him shaking hands with Andrea. So he symbolically extended his right hand and shook hands with Andrea, introducing himself, "Hello, Ms. Blanchet. My name is Ian Clark, and I am Arthur's good friend."
Andrea smiled and said, "Mr. Clark, you can just call me Andrea."
Ian looked at Arthur again and insisted on calling Andrea "Ms. Blanchet." Unable to make him change his mind, Andrea did not insist further.
Ian led them inside, talking to Arthur as they walked and mentioning Hannah Mitchell. "I never thought I would have the chance to serve you. I consider myself very lucky. I thought you had decided not to marry after Hannah left."
Andrea curiously thought to herself, 'Hannah? Is she Arthur's ex-girlfriend? But why did he say he didn't have a girlfriend when I asked him?'
Before Arthur could speak, Ian realized Andrea's presence. He quickly explained to Andrea, "Don't misunderstand Arthur, Andrea. His relationship with Hannah is in the past. They just grew up together since they were kids. Hannah went abroad ten years ago and only comes back every few years."
Andrea generously smiled and said, "I don't mind."
Andrea was only renting Arthur as her husband to make Eve give up on urging her to get married and stop forcing her to go on blind dates.
As for whether Arthur had someone he liked in the past or present, she truly didn't care. A man as outstanding as Arthur, if no woman liked him, she would find it abnormal.
Seeing that Andrea really didn't mind, Ian breathed a sigh of relief and inwardly scolded himself for mentioning Hannah.
In Ian's circle of friends, everyone knew that Hannah and Arthur had grown up together since they were kids, and Hannah had fallen in love with Arthur during her teenage years. They all thought that Hannah and Arthur would become a happy couple.
But ten years ago, Hannah suddenly went abroad. They asked Hannah about the reason but didn't get an answer. They also asked Arthur, and he responded that Hannah had her freedom.
When Ian mentioned Hannah, Arthur first looked at Andrea with a hint of nervousness in his eyes. However, Andrea's attention was not on him, and she didn't notice the change in Ian's gaze.
Arthur breathed a sigh of relief and then glared at Ian, warning him that if he said anything nonsense again, he wouldn't forgive him.
Ian awkwardly smiled, apologized to Arthur with his eyes, admitting that he had spoken out of turn, and asked for Arthur's forgiveness.
Later, even though Ian was curious about when Arthur and Andrea had started dating, he didn't dare to ask, afraid that he would say something he shouldn't.
Ian thought to himself, 'Arthur is already twenty-nine years old and has never been in a serious relationship. People in our circle always thought he was naturally aloof, but I never expected him to register for marriage. He's really good at hiding things.'
With Ian as a witness, Arthur and Andrea successfully obtained their marriage certificate.
Ian wanted to see the newlyweds off, but Arthur refused. Ian could only say to Andrea, "Andrea, if you and Arthur have spare time, you can come to my house. My wife would love to be friends with you."
Andrea politely replied, "Sure."
"Goodbye," Ian said.
When Andrea wasn't paying attention, he secretly punched Arthur and whispered, "You have to treat us to dinner tomorrow night. I can't believe you kept this secret from us."
Arthur replied in a low voice, "I'm visiting Andrea's family tomorrow. I don't have time."
Ian thought to himself, 'They got their marriage certificate without even visiting each other's families. Did they decide to get married as soon as they met? Andrea doesn't even have her documents with her. Although they have a certificate issued by the police station, it's clear that they decided to register for marriage on a whim.'
Ian was shocked as if he had discovered a new continent. He thought, 'Arthur actually decided to get married on a whim!'
Unfortunately, even though he had many questions, Arthur would not give him the opportunity to ask.
After getting in the car, Arthur gently asked Andrea, "Do you want to grab something to eat together? Or should I just drop you off at Fate Café?"
Andrea opened her marriage certificate and replied, "Just drop me off at Fate Café. They have food there."
Arthur smiled and said, "Alright."
After closing the marriage certificate, Andrea put it in her pocket and said with a smile, "Mr. Arthur, I never thought I would marry you."
"From now on, just call me Arthur directly. That way, it won't raise any suspicions," Arthur suggested.
Regardless of their reasons for obtaining the marriage certificate, they were now legally married, and Arthur wanted a closer relationship with her.
Looking at her charming face, her natural and radiant smile made Arthur smile. "I never thought you would be my wife."
Although their marriage was a spontaneous decision, Arthur had no regrets.
"Arthur, we have a fake marriage. You should still call me Andrea, and please don't call me honey."
Arthur asked her, "Can't I call you honey in front of your family?"
Andrea helplessly said, "Try to avoid calling me that. It sounds strange to me."
"Alright," Arthur replied. And he started the car.
A few minutes later, he asked Andrea, "Where do you live? I'll move in with you tonight."
"What?" Andrea said in astonishment.
Arthur reminded her, "You said you would give me $1000 a month, provide me with free accommodation and food, and two sets of clothes for each season."
Andrea said, "Aren't you renting at Gold Garden? The environment there is very good. My rented place is definitely not as good as Gold Garden."
"You know, the rent at Gold Garden is expensive. Although I can afford it, I'm married now, so I need to save money. If I move in with you, we can follow the agreement we signed, and I can save on rent."
Andrea didn't know how to argue. After all, she had drafted such an agreement to entice him to pretend to be her boyfriend, and now she had trapped herself in it.
"The place I rent only has one bedroom, not far from my Fate Café, just a two to three-minute walk. Arthur, if you move in with me, you'll have to stay in the living room."
Arthur smiled as he drove and said, "As long as it saves money, I can stay in the living room. How about I don't move, and you help me with the rent? My rent and other expenses add up to over two thousand dollars a month."
Upon hearing this, Andrea immediately said, "You can drop me off at Fate Café. We can grab something to eat there, and then you can hurry back to check out and move."
Joy filled Arthur's blue eyes. He smiled and said, "Alright."
