Chapter 5 The Perfect Person
Andrea breathed a sigh of relief because she didn't have to help him pay the over two thousand dollars in rent.
At that moment, Arthur's phone suddenly rang. He was driving and couldn't answer the call, but the caller didn't give up and kept calling.
Arthur could only take his phone out of his pocket with one hand and handed it to Andrea. Andrea took his phone, feeling puzzled.
"I'm driving, so I can't answer the call. Can you see who it is for me?" Arthur said.
Andrea felt it was inappropriate, but she couldn't refuse. When she saw the caller ID showing "Keith Blanchet," she felt that the phone was like a hot potato.
Keith didn't know that his younger sister, Andrea, was holding Arthur's phone, nor did he know that Arthur was driving. He called again.
Arthur asked, "Andrea, who is calling? Why don't you help me answer?"
"Arthur, I can't help you answer the call," Andrea said.
Although Andrea had already figured out how to face her family when she decided to rent Arthur as her boyfriend, she still felt a bit flustered when Keith called. Andrea thought to herself, 'I need some time to adjust my emotions.'
"It's Keith," Andrea added.
Arthur was a bit surprised. Although he and Keith were college classmates, they didn't have much contact, both on and off campus. They were just acquaintances. After so many years since graduation, they only occasionally kept in touch and went for a drink together.
"I'll take the call," Arthur said. He slowed down the car and gently pulled over to the side of the road.
He took his phone back from Andrea and answered Keith's call.
"Keith, what's up?" Arthur's voice was warm, and Andrea liked listening to him speak.
Apart from his appearance, just hearing him talk made Andrea feel that renting him as a husband was worth it.
"Nothing much. Ian just called and told me that you got married. It's such a big event. As your good classmate, I had to be the first one to congratulate you," Keith replied.
Keith laughed on the other end of the phone. "Arthur, who is that girl? It's amazing for her to be able to pursue you successfully. When are you bringing her out for us to see? When is the wedding? I can be your groomsman."
Arthur was popular in school, but he seemed gentle while being actually distant and indifferent. Countless girls had a crush on him and pursued him, but he never paid them any attention or gave them a chance.
So, when Keith heard this news from Ian, he was too curious and immediately called Arthur. He was curious about what the girl who married Arthur looked like and thought she must be really awesome.
Arthur was stunned. He forgot that Ian was not only his friend but also Keith's junior in school.
"Arthur, since you're already registered for marriage, there's no need to hide it from us. Satisfy my curiosity. Speak up," Keith urged.
Arthur silently looked at his newly registered wife beside him.
Andrea instantly understood what he meant.
Taking a deep breath, Andrea took his phone from Arthur's hand once again.
"Keith, it's me," Andrea said.
After hearing Andrea's voice, Keith paused for a moment, then moved the phone away from his ear and looked at the screen, certain that he was talking to Arthur. He wondered to himself, 'Why did the person answering the call become Andrea?'
"Andrea, why is it you? It is Arthur's phone," Keith asked.
Andrea had composed herself. She answered seriously, "Keith, I'm the one who registered for marriage with Arthur."
Keith's voice was clear, and Andrea heard what he said just now.
Upon hearing this, Keith was taken aback, and the phone slipped from his hand, falling to the ground. He thought to himself, 'I must have misheard. How could the woman who married Arthur be my sister Andrea?'
In the next moment, Keith quickly bent down to pick up the phone and shouted into it, "Andrea, say it again! Who did you get the marriage certificate with? Arthur? Do you know him? Do you know what kind of person he is? How dare you marry him? You're so bold!"
Keith couldn't believe that Andrea had married Arthur. He thought, 'I have been Arthur's classmate for four years, don't even understand his thoughts, and I don't even know where he lives.'
Keith only knew that Arthur was not as gentle and kind as he appeared, believing him to be someone who could deceive others with a smile on his face. He thought, 'Andrea is straightforward and isn't the scheming type. She will definitely get hurt being with Arthur.'
"Keith, I'll tell you the details about this tomorrow. Mom wants me to come home tomorrow, and I'll bring Arthur home to meet her," Andrea replied.
She thought to herself, 'As long as Mom meets Arthur, she will definitely stop arranging blind dates for me. Otherwise, even if I say I have a boyfriend on the phone, she won't believe it. I rented Arthur for the purpose of stopping Mom from urging my marriage.'
Andrea hung up the phone after finishing her words to prevent Keith from asking her more questions. Although she didn't know Arthur very well, they had known each other for eleven years, and she believed that Arthur was not a bad person.
Keith, who had been hung up on by Andrea, paced back and forth in his small office. "Arthur, you bastard, you actually married my sister."
Keith kept murmuring, "Andrea, you're really bold. How dare you marry Arthur? Do you know him? When did you two get together? You're really good at keeping secrets."
In any case, Keith was now restless and wanted to fly to Andrea immediately to find out the truth.
After finishing the call with Keith, both Andrea and Arthur remained silent, neither of them speaking.
Back at Fate Café, Arthur gently asked Andrea, "Andrea, do you regret it?"
When she opened the car door to get out, Andrea turned her head to look at Arthur. He was handsome, and even in casual clothes, he couldn't hide his elegant demeanor. He spoke gently, clearly a refined gentleman.
Andrea thought, 'Why do Keith's words make it sound like Arthur is a jerk? As if being with him would hurt me.'
Andrea felt that Keith's reaction was a bit exaggerated.
"Arthur, we are contractually married, and we should act according to the agreement. How could I regret it?" Andrea replied. After a moment of thought, she added, "I never do things that I would regret."
She had carefully considered before proposing to Arthur to be her rented boyfriend.
Arthur smiled and said, "Alright, I understand."
Andrea blinked, feeling that his words held a deeper meaning. However, upon careful recollection, she didn't sense any other implications in his words.
