Chapter 7 Pregnant

Just then, the nurse walked in with a tray full of medicine bottles. She smiled and said, "Ms. Semona, time for your IV."

Marcus jumped up and hurried over to the nurse, looking worried. "Need any help?" he asked.

He looked at the nurse with such gentle eyes that she blushed. She saw Marcus around the hospital a lot and knew he was friends with Dalton. She also knew he was someone way out of their league.

But Marcus never acted like a rich snob. He was always super humble and treated the junior staff with respect. A lot of nurses secretly had a crush on him, but no one ever said anything. Whenever they got to talk to him, they'd blush and their hearts would race.

Blushing, the nurse said, "Mr. Heilbronn, if you could help adjust Ms. Semona's position to make her comfortable, that would be great."

She couldn't bear to look at Marcus’s handsome face anymore, so she focused on getting the injection stuff ready, hoping her shaky hands wouldn't mess up and hurt the patient.

Marcus gently adjusted Aurelia, making sure her head and back were well supported. He moved with such care, like she was a fragile piece of art. "Is this okay? How do you feel?" he asked, concerned.

"Much better, thank you," Aurelia said, feeling a warm glow inside. She wasn't used to this kind of attention, especially after being ignored by Nathaniel. Marcus's care made her feel a bit uneasy. But Marcus didn't do or say anything inappropriate, so she figured she was just overthinking it.

The nurse started the IV, and Marcus watched closely, his eyes never leaving Aurelia. His gaze made her feel both safe and a little uncomfortable. Aurelia wasn’t used to being taken care of so attentively, but her slightly furrowed brows made Marcus worry. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"No, I'm fine," Aurelia said. She wasn’t lying. The nurse was really good, and the IV fluid started flowing into her vein, bringing a cool sensation.

Aurelia kept telling herself, 'Stop overthinking. Marcus is just being nice. He only sees me as a younger family member.' With that thought, she started to accept his care.

After the injection, the nurse left, and Dalton gave some instructions before leaving too. But Marcus stayed. He kept checking on Aurelia, making sure she was comfortable, his eyes following the clear liquid in the IV bottle.

"Marcus, you really don't have to take care of me like this. I can handle it," Aurelia said, trying to get her point across, but Marcus's gentle look stopped her.

Marcus replied, "I know you can, Aurelia. You're the strongest girl I know. But as an elder, it's my job to look out for the younger ones in the family. If my dad were here, he'd expect me to take care of you."

"But..." Aurelia started, but Marcus cut her off with a soft smile. "Aurelia, I know what you're worried about. Don't stress. I've already hired two caregivers. I'll leave once they get here."

Aurelia felt a wave of gratitude. "Thank you, Marcus."

As the IV drip slowly flowed, Aurelia started feeling sleepy. Her eyelids got heavy, and soon she was out cold in the warm hospital room. Her face looked peaceful and beautiful, with a faint blush like she was having sweet dreams.

Marcus sat quietly by her bed, his eyes drawn to her sleeping face, feeling a surge of tenderness. He adjusted his chair quietly, trying not to make any noise, but he couldn't help sneaking a few more glances. Aurelia's long eyelashes fluttered a bit, making Marcus's heart skip a beat.

Just then, the door opened softly, and Dalton walked in with some test results. Seeing Marcus's lovestruck expression, Dalton couldn't resist teasing, "Still staring? But with such a beautiful wife, I can't blame you. Congrats, your wife is pregnant. After all these years, you never mentioned you were getting married."

"I'm not married," Marcus said, making Dalton roll his eyes.

"Not married and got a girl pregnant? I misjudged you, Marcus!" Dalton joked, pretending to be shocked.

Marcus shot him a look. "Keep your voice down."

"Now you care about her? Why didn't you marry her sooner?" Dalton handed Marcus the report. "She's already six weeks pregnant. When she gets out of the hospital, let's celebrate."

"Stop talking nonsense. She's not my wife," Marcus said.

"I get it, not married yet. So she's your girlfriend?" Dalton thought Marcus was just being shy and changed his wording, but Marcus's response wiped the smile off his face. "She's my nephew's wife."

The news hit Dalton like a ton of bricks, and he needed a moment to process it. A storm of emotions swirled inside Marcus; worry for Aurelia mixed with the shock of her sudden pregnancy news.

Marcus knew how much Reed wanted Nathaniel and Aurelia to have a child. Normally, he'd call Reed right away to share the good news. But Marcus was torn. He didn't want to be the one to break the news, unsure if Aurelia even wanted to keep the baby.
