Chapter 1 My Husband Has a Mistress
"Is this how much you missed me?" Stuart Haustia's voice was low and husky as he reached out to pull Josephine Kalmien into his arms.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he stared at her. Josephine, in a black silk nightgown showcasing her delicate skin and graceful curves, had her golden hair cascading over her chest, a sight to captivate any man. Usually, she wore cute pajamas, but tonight, she looked especially enchanting.
Josephine felt a bit uneasy under his intense gaze, her cheeks turning pink and her eyes darting away.
Not expecting Stuart to return, she hastily donned a nightgown after her bath.
Stuart cornered her against the wall, pinning her hands above her head with one hand.
His other hand gently caressed her cheek, slid over her smooth shoulder and neck, and finally rested on the strap of her nightgown.
In the next second, the black silk nightgown was torn apart, its pieces falling to the floor.
Josephine gasped in surprise, but before she could react, Stuart's breath enveloped her.
His movements were more intense than usual, as if he wanted to merge her into his body.
Josephine could hardly keep up, her soft moans drowned out by Stuart's thrusts.
She pleaded softly, "Slow, slow down..."
Stuart didn't let her finish, lowering his head to kiss her earlobe wickedly. "Going slow won't satisfy Mrs. Haustia."
A wicked smile played on his lips as he suddenly quickened his pace.
Josephine whimpered in discomfort, like a water lily battered by the rain, her hands clinging to Stuart's neck to steady herself.
Angry, she bit his neck, only to be met with even more intense retaliation.
Who would have thought that the usually cold and indifferent president of the Haustia Group, Stuart, would be so passionate in bed?
After about an hour or two, Josephine was exhausted, but Stuart continued relentlessly.
Before she fell into a deep sleep, Josephine couldn't help but wonder, what had gotten into Stuart tonight?
Upon awakening to the ringing phone, she glimpsed Stuart answering it, aware of her presence yet seamlessly engaging with the caller.
"Doris, don't worry, I'll be there soon."
After the call, Stuart hurriedly dressed.
Josephine thought, 'Doris Kelly? Stuart's new flame?'
In their three years of marriage, Josephine had never heard Stuart speak to anyone in such a gentle tone.
Although she didn't know what had happened, Josephine vaguely heard the sound of a woman sobbing on the other end of the line.
Glancing at her phone at 1 a.m., she concluded that no one with manners would call a married person at such a late hour—unless the nature of the relationship was unclear.
Josephine's lips curled into a mocking smile. She thought, 'My husband is really busy!'
With such remarkable stamina, he had just completed their lovemaking session and was now prepared to move on to another.
However, Stuart's attitude seemed different from usual.
Thinking of this, Josephine lowered her head slightly, playing with her hair to hide her disappointment.
A piece of women's clothing was thrown onto the bed in front of Josephine.
Josephine looked up in shock. "What do you mean?"
Stuart, while getting dressed, said, "Doris's brother was in a car accident. She's too scared to explain properly. I'm afraid her brother is seriously injured. You're a doctor, come with me to provide timely treatment."
Josephine laughed in anger and didn't move.
She found a comfy spot and lazily sprawled on the bed, still basking in the afterglow of their recent passion.
Stuart, on the other hand, was the perfect example of heartless as he pulled on his pants.
Heading out at 1 a.m.?
He was already buttoning his shirt, frowning as he glanced over. "Why aren't you getting ready?"
"As your legal wife, I don't feel obligated to assist your..." Josephine paused, choosing her words carefully and swallowing the term "mistress." "Your lover. And I'm off duty. Just a friendly reminder, for car accident injuries, call 911."
"Josephine, you're as cold-blooded as ever. As a doctor, saving lives is your duty." Stuart's eyes were icy. "We have a business marriage. As Mrs. Haustia, you have an obligation to listen to me. Don't you want your father's project?"
Josephine sneered, thinking, 'How absurd. A business marriage justifies infidelity? Those are Stuart's values. How dare he expect me to help the mistress and call me heartless if I refuse?'
The Kalmien Group project was just to appease her parents. Stuart's opinion was irrelevant. Raised by her grandparents and distant from her parents, she was viewed as a mere tool for securing business advantages by the latter.
Agreeing to the business marriage wasn't solely her parents' command. It was also to protect her grandfather's company and because of a secret she kept: she liked Stuart; she was willing.
Seeing that Josephine was unmoved, Stuart suddenly climbed onto the bed, his hands on either side of her, looking down with his usual cold voice. "Then what about Dawnlight Estate?"
Josephine's breath hitched. Stuart knew how much Dawnlight Estate meant to her.
Perched atop Sunlit Mountain, the manor was meticulously built by her grandfather, reflecting her tastes and his dedication.
But her parents, eager to please Stuart, had secretly registered the estate in his name as a wedding gift, without her or her grandfather's knowledge.
Josephine's eyes dimmed. She lacked the courage to ask Stuart what he intended to do with Dawnlight Estate.
Her heart ached, but she didn't want to show weakness in front of Stuart, maintaining a calm and indifferent demeanor.
She needed a reason. She looked at Stuart with scrutiny.
"Stuart, we agreed to stay out of each other's way and live our own lives. But remember, you have a wife. Otherwise, I'll consider you tainted and won't let you near me again." With that, Josephine got up to get dressed.
She thought, for that "Doris," Stuart could go to such lengths. She wanted to meet "Doris."
Hearing this, Stuart's eyes filled with anger, and he coldly said, "Get rid of your filthy thoughts."
Thirty minutes later, Stuart sped to the scene of Doris's brother's car accident with Josephine. Silent and tense, he jumped out of the Rolls-Royce, leaving the door open. Josephine closed it for him.
There were quite a few people at the scene.
Police officers were investigating and recording, directing tow trucks, and ambulances were treating the injured.
Stuart frowned, searching the crowd.
He finally locked onto a small, lonely figure standing under a streetlamp.
He strode through the scattered crowd, his steps steady and strong.
Doris stood alone by the roadside, occasionally kicking the stones on the ground with her toes.
As soon as she saw Stuart appear, Doris's bright eyes lit up with joy, and she immediately threw herself into Stuart's arms, as delicate and light as a feather. "Stuart! You finally came. I'm all alone here, cold and scared. Thank goodness you're here."
