Chapter 5

It was a surveillance video. Mr Reed picked the tablet from the table, showing the video to everyone.

Abigail felt strange watching the person in the video. Not only did she look utterly fat in the video, there was something wrong with her. She seemed to have no spirit at all, like someone who has lost their will to live.

This wasn't her. She couldn't be that person in the video. Abigail had always been spirited and bright, how did her life change so drastically?

She fought back her unwanted tears, focussing on the video. She saw herself walk to the staircase like a zombie who'd completely lost its human brains. Then Clara and Emma emerged from behind, they smiled sickly at each other. Just as Abigail began to descend the stairs, Clara and Emma's hands pushed her down the stairs. The housekeeper rushed from the kitchen to Abigail with concern, while Clara and Emma were still standing at the entrance of the stairs.

Abigail placed a hand on her chest, watching the video. The housekeeper helped Abigail up and insisted she called the doctor, but she refused, walking back to her room.

Mr Reed paused the video. Abigail couldn't suppress the wide grin that cut through her lips. She was right after all, these silly servants had indeed pushed her.

Abigail watched in euphoria as Mr Reed's unfeeling gaze met the servants.

Emma fell to the floor, her head kissing the marble floors. Clara followed suit.

"M-Mr. Reed, please forgive us!"

"For what exactly? For lying about the crime you committed, or for attempting to murder my wife?" His voice was deeper and chillier than usual.

They couldn't respond, their eyes were glassy with tears.

Asher's deep green eyes met Abigail's. "Do whatever you please with them,"

"Thank you, Mr Reed." Her eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

"My lady, please forgive us. We know we are wrong, please give us another chance." Clara crawled to her, suddenly lowering her voice while Emma sobbed loudly. "Don't be cocky now, Mr Reed will leave soon, if you value your life, remedy this situation at once!"

Frozen, Abigail thought she had heard wrong. Yes, her ears must be somehow faulty, otherwise how could a mere servant dare talk back at her?

What kind of life have you been living Abigail Crawford?

Abigail fumed with rage, before she could stop herself her hands crashed hard against Clara's cheek. "You little bitches!"

Clara was left without any words, her eyes were rounded with shock that was similarly evident in everyone's eyes, including Mr Reed who stared blankly at her.

She turned to him. "At first I was considering something light, but not anymore. These girls have committed a crime, so they'll be sent to the police and rot in jail."

After she was done talking, Asher's deep gaze never peeled away from her. His intense stare made Abigail pull her gaze away. She folded her hand against her chest, deep down hoping Mr Reed wouldn't go back on his words, and instead, hand the servants over to the police.

"Okay." He said finally, giving the housekeeper a firm look. Mrs Melissa nodded in understanding, leaving the room with the servant.

They were taken downstairs, and Mrs Melissa called the police.

The more Abigail thought about it, the more she felt something wasn't quite right. Even though she had travelled through time, and alot had changed. Why will these servants make an attempt on her life? It didn't make sense.

Abigail left for the waiting room where Clara and Emma were confined until the police arrived. She was about to pull the door open when she heard faint whispers. Abigail opened the door gently, Clara and Emma were on the phone, talking to someone.

"We did as you said…" She heard Clara say. "Yes. Yes. Don't worry…." They kept nodding.

"I'm not sure what has happened to her, but something about her has changed." Emma whispered over the phone. "She even called the police on us"

Abigail kept listening.

"Please, you must come to our rescue. That bitch has gone totally insane!"

The last words infuriated Abigail, but she remained calm listening. She was damn right! There was someone else involved, and those fools were simply following someone's orders. But who could that be?

She sighed, unable to think. Her past self didn't look like someone who could have enemies who probably wanted to end her life.

Lost in her thoughts, she hadn't realized that Clara and Emma had spotted her.

"You…what are you doing here?" Clara disconnected the call, hiding the phone in her pocket.

"Who were you talking to?" Knowing they would not answer, she rushed to Clara, snatching the phone from her pocket.

Before Abigail could look at the screen clearly, she was hit from behind. She felt pain from her head, and warm crimson fluid flowing from it. Her vision doubled, she collapsed on the floor, falling unconscious.

Abigail groaned in pain, waking up. Her head was hurting so much, almost on the verge of exploding. She looked around and realized she was back in Mr Reed's room.

Slowly, vision became clearer, and her eyes met that of a woman whose lips were wide with smiles.

"Do you know who I am?" The woman asked, making Abigail's blue crystals widen.
