Chapter 9

That night, Jasmine had gone to the room after preparing for bed, but to her surprise, the room was bolted from inside.

She scoffed and kicked the door with her feet. "Open this door, Matt! Goddamn you!" She yelled, attracting the attention of a few maids and guards. She was panting heavily now as she muttered a string of curses under her breath, all directed at the man who had abandoned and humiliated her.

"Screw you!" She yelled as she walked back to her room, sighing as she thought about how her plan had failed.

"Your Highness, a warm cup of coffee?" Cara said, startling her and she turned around quickly.

"Cara. Why are you here? I thought I had told you to get some rest?"

"Your Highness, I was trying to sleep when I heard from the other maids what had happened," Cara replied.

She had been on her bed, trying to catch some sleep when she overheard some maids talking and one sentence caught her attention.

"Her Highness has never done this…"

"I know! I feel for her, she must be so humiliated right now."

She sprang up immediately from the room she was in and walked out to find the maids who had been discussing.

It was no secret that Cara was highly favored over the other maids. She even had her own special room, close to the maid's quarters, and didn't have to share the room with some other maids, unlike the other maids in the mansion.

"Julia!" Cara yelled and the Girl in question, alongside her co-gossiper turned around, suddenly anxious because gossips were forbidden in the mansion, and with Cara being Queen Jasmine's personal maid, everything was going to be worse.

"Cara," she said, swallowing hard to calm her racing heart.

"What are you both discussing?" She questioned, glancing at the both of them. They looked at each other and shrugged. They were both thinking the same thing. If they both deny it, there is no way that Cara is going to report them, after all, she has no proof.

"Discussing? We were not talking about anything. Or do you mean my mate that we were just talking about?" Julia said, making sure to sound as convincing as possible. Although, what she had said wasn't a lie. They had indeed spoken about her mate and how he was a high-ranked wolf. She was concerned that he was going to reject her because of his family and her status.

"I heard everything! Don't lie!" She yelled and the other maid, Tanya, who was always so scared and careful fell to her knees, tears suddenly streaming down her face.

"Please, Cara. It was a harmless conversation, please…"

"Stop! Stop!" She flung her arms, surprised at the sudden turn of events, noting the way Julia shot a glare at her.

"Look, I just want to know that the queen is fine. I won't report any of you. Please, tell me, where is she now?"

"I don't—-"

"Julia!! Common! Help me out here!" She yelled. She was scared that her worst fears had come true and indeed it was so, as Tanya began to talk.

"We saw her by the door to the king's room and she was really furious! But the king didn't seem like he was going to open the door at all."

She didn't wait for the girl to finish talking and ran to the king's chamber and just then, she saw the Queen angrily stomping off.

"Screw coffee! Get me vodka!" Jasmine said, jolting Cara back to the present who scrunched her face in confusion and worry.

She knew Jasmine so well and she knew that she had low alcohol tolerance that even a glass would knock her out.

"Are you sure, Your Highness?" She questioned, her brows knitted in confusion.

Jasmine raised her head to gaze at her assistant.

"Yes, Cara. I've never been more sure about anything. Go get me Vodka."

Cara nodded and walked out, returning almost immediately with a bottle of Vodka and a glass.

Jasmine glanced at the glass, the feeling of smashing it overwhelming, but instead, she took the bottle and took a long swig off it.

Cara watched in dismay. She wished there was something she could do for her, but she was just an ordinary maid, she had no such power.

"Am I ugly?" Jasmine asked, startling Cara who took one look at her and shook her head, knowing that she was already drunk. She had consumed half the content in the bottle.

"No, Your Highness."

Jasmine chuckled darkly, wondering if she was so unattractive that he'd rather lock her out like a stranger than let her sleep on the same bed with him.

She blinked back the tears that were threatening to fall, making a resolve to not give up. He had loved her before and even though she didn't know what went wrong, she was going to make him fall for her again.

"I want you to—uh—look," she kept quiet, chuckling as she realized that she had forgotten what she was about to say.

Cara, realizing that the queen was drunk held her and led her to her bed.

"Sleep, Your Highness. Tomorrow, we'll face this problem together."

Cara watched the woman after she had ticked her in bed. She had a life that most people envied, but inwardly, she was suffering. She had children, but she couldn't be a mother. She had a husband, yet didn't feel like a wife.

"Thank you, Cara. You're just like the child I never had," Cara heard Jasmine mumble, just before she shut the door and she nodded, blinking back the tears that threatened to cascade down her face.

The following morning, Jasmine woke up with a horrible headache. She groaned as she got up from bed. The sunlight was streaming in from the curtain and she knew that it was almost time for breakfast. Her stomach growled as if it could hear her thoughts.

She chuckled as a thought suddenly came to her. She knew that everyone was going to be surprised, but she was going to do things that she had never done before.
