Chapter 7 First Boss Kill, Lightning Leap

Walter was startled once again. He had been so engrossed in watching Alan's moves that he hadn't noticed an assassin sneaking up on them.

After a brief moment of surprise, Walter quickly reacted. "Ice King, he's trying to steal the boss."

Alan ignored Walter and instead focused on the assassin.

The assassin was almost fully equipped.

His eyes were sharp and filled with killing intent.

This person was no ordinary player.

The killing intent in his eyes was not something an average player could possess.

Moreover, he had just used a dagger to slice through Alan's arrow.

Such a move was common in the later stages of the game, but this was still the first day of the game.

"Invite me to your party, and we'll split the boss loot."

The assassin player spoke coldly, without a trace of emotion.

Alan shook his head. "No."

Upon hearing this, the assassin player didn't say another word. Instead, he retreated and went back into stealth mode.

"What does he mean? Is he planning to steal the boss while in stealth?"

Walter was a bit annoyed. "Kid, let me tell you, I'm from Endless Conquerors. You better leave now, or else..."

"Watch out!" Before Walter could finish his sentence, Alan shouted.

As his voice fell, an arrow had already flown out.

The assassin player appeared behind Walter. Instead of using the beginner skill Backstab, he directly used the skill Throat Slash.

A crimson critical hit number appeared.

[-642.]

The attack also caused a bleeding effect that dealt continuous damage...

[-90.]

[-90.]

In the next moment, Walter fell to the ground.

Alan's eyes narrowed slightly. 'Such clean and swift moves.'

'And such high damage.'

'Even with a critical hit, his attack power must have exceeded 300 to achieve that.'

'His level was eight.'

Even if Alan put all his points into attack power, it should only be around eighty.

This meant that the equipment or some passive skills provided the assassin with a high attack power.

The assassin had some passive skills that increased attack power, movement speed, and attack speed.

To be precise, all major classes had similar skills.

Walter respawned at the novice village's resurrection altar. Seeing that he had lost a level and a piece of level-five equipment, he was completely numb.

"Who is this guy? He killed me in one hit!"

Walter felt his entire understanding of the game shatter. He was a defensive warrior player, yet he was killed in one hit!

The fight against the Twisted Treant King continued.

Alan coldly stared at the assassin player.

"Do you want to compete with me in skill?"

With ten years of gaming experience in his previous life, Alan would never agree to a skill competition.

The assassin player beckoned to Alan with his finger and then went back into stealth mode.

Alan immediately drew his bow and shot an arrow. This time, he used the archer's exclusive skill, Rapid Fire.

Two arrows pierced through the air, forcing the stealthy assassin player out of hiding.

Alan didn't let up. Since he had forced the assassin out, he wouldn't let him go back into stealth.

Meanwhile, the Twisted Treant King had started to regenerate health.

But Alan wasn't in a hurry.

Arrows flew continuously, and the assassin player used his dagger to deflect Alan's arrows.

Alan remained calm and composed, maintaining a steady attack frequency. His attack power exceeded 500 damage points.

Although the game mechanics allowed arrows to be deflected, Alan's arrows were so powerful that the durability of the assassin player's dagger couldn't withstand it.

Alan seemed to have the upper hand.

After deflecting more than ten arrows, the assassin player's face darkened.

Facing Alan's relentless arrows, he didn't use his dagger to block anymore. Instead, he did a backflip to dodge Alan's arrows.

"You'll get yourself killed!"

Alan sneered and shot another arrow, hitting the assassin player in the abdomen.

The impact from the arrow caused the assassin player to be knocked back a short distance in mid-air.

Immediately after, the second arrow hit him.

A number, "-502," appeared on the assassin player's health bar.

With two arrows, the assassin player died on the spot and returned to the resurrection altar.

Alan's eyes lit up. The assassin player had actually dropped a piece of game equipment—a pair of boots.

At the same time, Alan noticed something else: this assassin had a surprisingly high amount of health.

For a typical level-8 assassin, one arrow should have been enough to kill him.

[Boots of the Savage (Elite): Level 7.]

[Effect 1: Movement Speed +0.5.]

[Effect 2: Critical Hit +1%.]

[Durability: 100.]

Alan's eyes brightened. The attributes of the Boots of the Savage were quite fitting for him.

Unfortunately, the only downside was that they didn't increase attack speed.

What he needed most right now was attack speed.

With faster attack speed, he could stack more health.

With higher health, his normal attack damage would naturally increase.

Stowing away the Boots of the Savage, Alan continued to attack the Twisted Treant King.

With no one to stop him, the Twisted Treant King was just a toy in Alan's hands.

Originally, the Bramble Shield skill, which could reflect all damage, would have posed some trouble for Alan.

But with his skilled and precise shooting, Alan prevented the Twisted Treant King from using any skills at all.

This was also thanks to another benefit of the novice village: the bosses there generally didn't have immunity to control skills.

[You have killed the Twisted Treant King, gaining 8250 experience points.]

[You are the first player to kill a boss. A server-wide announcement will be made. Do you wish to hide your name?]

"No," Alan replied.

Alan had lived another life as nobody, so a first boss kill wasn't enough to make him hide his name.

Besides, he wanted to become famous.

He needed prestige.

Only then could he stand at the pinnacle of power in the future.

To fight against the TechNova System, relying on one person's strength was like trying to put out a fire with a cup of water.

So, Alan needed to gain power and control the overall situation!

[Server-wide announcement: Congratulations to player Ice King for completing the first kill of the Twisted Treant King. We hope all players will continue to strive for excellence.]

[Server-wide announcement: Congratulations to player Ice King for completing the first kill of the Twisted Treant King. We hope all players will continue to strive for excellence.]

[Congratulations, you are the first player to kill a boss in Ragnarok. Your reward is 50 free attribute points, +1 to your profession skill book, +1 to your main weapon of the profession, and +100 gold.]

Alan's lips curled into a smile. Indeed, solely killing a boss came with extraordinary rewards.

He allocated all 50 free attribute points to attack speed.

His original attack speed of 1.13 instantly became 2.13.

This attack speed could definitely be considered unrivaled.

[Lightning Leap (Passive Skill): 1 Star.]

[Effect: Your normal attacks have a 50% chance to trigger Lightning Leap, which can jump to 10 target units within a 200-foot radius. Lightning Leap damage is 10% of your actual damage.]

[Cooldown: None.]

[Cost: None.]

[Proficiency: 0/1000.]

Alan raised an eyebrow. 'This skill is interesting. If the skill level increases, could the damage potentially rise to 90%?'

'Could the range and the number of units it can jump to also increase?'

The thought of it sent chills down Alan's spine.

His damage was already ridiculously high, and his only shortcoming was the inability to farm mobs in groups.

But now, with this skill, even that shortcoming was covered.
