Chapter 9 Watch Out for Your Sister

"Ice King, wait a moment."

Walter saw that Alan was about to log off and immediately called out to stop him.

"Do you need anything?"

"Ice King, I'm the young master of Endless Conquerors. I want to invite you to join us at Endless Conquerors with an annual salary of ten million. What do you say?"

Walter had his own understanding of the game, and Alan's skills were too strong. He wasmore potent than any professional player Walter had ever seen. With such skills, Alan was worth ten-million-dollar salary. Moreover, Alan had such vital attributes.

"Sorry, I've created my own team." Alan shook his head. "Thanks for the offer, though."

"I see, but we can still be long-term partners," Walter said.

"No problem." Alan nodded, then suddenly stopped in his tracks. "Did you say you're the young master of Endless Conquerors?"

"Yes, why?"

"We're acquaintances now, so I'll give you a heads-up. Watch out for your sister."

Three months after the Ragnarok server opened in his previous life, the news broke that Endless Conquerors Group had a major shake-up. The original young master of Endless Conquerors Group had a car accident due to brake failure and became disabled. Six months later, it was revealed that the mastermind behind the brake sabotage was the young master's sister.

"Watch out for my sister?" Walter frowned. "Why?"

"Just remember what I said."

Alan waved his hand. He had given a warning out of courtesy. What happened to Walter in the end had nothing to do with Alan.

This time, Alan didn't log off the game immediately. Instead, he returned to the newbie village before logging off, mainly because he had offended that assassin and needed to be cautious. If he logged off in the wild and got assassinated, it wouldn't be worth it.

After logging off, Alan checked the time. It was 8 AM. James was still in the game, so Alan didn't disturb him and opened the fridge to make breakfast.

Ragnarok, as a cross-era online game, had a very magical aspect: in the game, the body received full rest, and even the mind felt more refreshed. Later, some experts explained that it was equivalent to sleeping in the game, which wasn't entirely correct. It was discovered later that leveling up and enhancing attributes in the game while not physically manifesting in reality, could rejuvenate the mind, naturally making one feel better.

"James, log off and eat."

Due to budget constraints, Alan and James were using ordinary game pods, not the mid-level nutrition ones.

It was said that with the mid-level nutrition pods, after preparing the nutrient solution, one could stay logged in for half a month without any nutritional deficiencies.

James had just logged off and smiled at Alan. "Alan, you were right. Going solo to make money is a breeze."

"I got a level 7 item today and sold it for twelve thousand dollars. There are so many rich players in this game."

Alan smiled noncommittally. It wasn't that there were many wealthy players.

On the contrary, the number of individual wealthy players was generally not that high. What really drove up the prices of equipment and skill books were the guilds, corporations, and governments.

The guilds saw the popularity of Ragnarok and knew that it would definitely make a fortune in the future.

After all, the PC gaming industry could reach hundreds of billions, and Ragnarok's gaming industry would definitely be measured in trillions.

As for the corporations and the government, they naturally knew some of the essence of Ragnarok and understood the importance of strengthening themselves in the game.

Alan knew why James was so strong in the early stages.

He chose the warrior class and, after leaving the newbie village, encountered a bard.

The bard's poetry was terrible, so James showed off the poetry of the ancient poets in front of the bard.

This action not only didn't offend the bard but made him admire James greatly, and he immediately wanted to become James' disciple. The apprenticeship gift was three passive skills for the warrior.

Relying on these three passive skills, James remained formidable even in the later stages of the game.

The three passive skills were Double Armor, Double Shield, and Double Slash. The skill effects were as follows:

[Double Armor: All attacks received will reflect a certain percentage of damage back to the attacker.]

[Double Shield: Each time a control skill is used, it grants a shield based on a percentage of the user's health.]

[Double Slash: Each attack (including skills, equipment effects, potion effects, etc.) has a chance to trigger multiple effects.]

Reflecting damage, shields, and damage output made these skills quite versatile, especially since all three were passive skills that could be triggered infinitely.

Moreover, Double Slash and Double Shield could stack with each other.

For example, the warrior's charge skill, which was a control skill, could trigger Double Shield, and if Double Slash triggered multiple effects, the shield would also trigger numerous times.

James said, "I'm already level 9 and got three passive skills. I'll definitely be able to get better equipment later."

Alan nodded. "James, no rush. I've already paid for my sister's surgery."

"Paid?"

"Yes." Alan took out the payment receipt. "I was luckier than you; I took down a boss."

"Holy crap, Alan, you're Ice King?"

Alan nodded and said to James, "Let's eat. I'll organize a newbie village guide for you later. There are many hidden rewards in the newbie village."

"Got it. Alan, you're amazing. If John knew about your achievements now, he'd definitely regret it."

While eating, Alan recalled the newbie village guide. Each class had suitable hidden rewards in the newbie village.

"James, go to the tavern in the newbie village, buy two bottles of the most expensive liquor, and take them to the blacksmith. Ask the blacksmith to forge the strongest warrior weapon for you."

"Then, he'll give you a chain quest. The higher the completion rate, the better the rewards you'll get."

"Got it." James didn't ask how Alan knew this and agreed readily.

After the meal, Alan gave James two more guides, one for Robert and one for Michael.

"James, you go back to the game, and I'm going to check on Mary."

"Let's go together." James didn't go back to the game alone but went to the hospital with Alan.

Since Alan had already paid, the hospital was arranging the surgery.

In the ward, Alan looked at the unconscious Mary, his eyes softening.

"Doctor, when will my sister's surgery start?" Alan asked.

"We're arranging it now. The surgery can be done this afternoon. You can sign here."

"Okay."

Alan nodded and signed the surgery consent form.

After completing these tasks, Alan returned to the rental house and logged back into the game.
