Chapter 3: Breaking with Father
Actually, from Dean's words, Aurora had already guessed the answer, but she still wanted to ask.
She couldn't believe that her own father would also want to hurt her.
Aurora's questioning made Dean avert his gaze, guilty and unable to meet Aurora's eyes.
"What's with the attitude? I am your father. How can you talk to me like this?"
Aurora sneered, "Yeah, you are my father, so why are you pushing me into the fire? Why are you indulging Nicole and marrying me off to the Lewis family."
Aurora thought, without Dean's acquiescence, Nicole couldn't have done those things.
Since the matter was already settled, Nicole dropped the pretense and said coldly, "The Lewis family only said they wanted to marry a daughter of the White family; they didn't specify who. Besides, in Silvercrest City, the Lewis family is a top-notch family! We've arranged such a good marriage for you. You should be grateful to us."
"If the Lewis family is so great, why not let Emily marry into it?" Aurora retorted sarcastically.
Before coming here, Aurora had already been to the Taylor family, and they told her that Daniel and Emily had gone out.
At that moment, Aurora felt a sense of despair!
'Could it be that Daniel had abandoned me? Why didn't he come to find me when he found out the bride was wrong?' she thought.
"Enough," Dean said sternly. "Emily's health is not good. If she marries into the Lewis family, she won't be able to handle it. You are her sister. What's wrong with marrying in her place?"
Hearing this, Aurora stared at Dean in shock, as if struck by lightning. Over the years, she had known about Dean's favoritism, but she didn't expect it to be to such an extent! Perhaps, in his eyes, she was never his daughter.
Aurora's heart twisted in pain. After her mother passed away, Nicole and her daughter moved into the White family. Since then, she had never eaten at the dining table, living on scraps and leftovers every day.
After high school, she earned all her tuition fees by working part-time.
She was the eldest daughter of the White family, but lived worse than a stray dog.
Emily enjoyed the aura of a wealthy lady, dressed in designer brands, and frequented high-end clubs, while Aurora wore cheap clothes and squeezed into subways and buses to work.
Aurora thought she could marry the man she loved and leave the White family, but she didn't expect to be schemed against by Nicole and her daughter! Her life was about to be ruined!
"Dad, with you being so biased and indulging Nicole to treat me like this, how sad would mom be if she knew?" Aurora choked up, her eyes red as she looked at Dean.
"Your mother is already dead. Stop mentioning her," Dean frowned and said coldly. "Since the Lewis family has come to break off the engagement, you don't have to marry into it. This matter is resolved. Go back and change your clothes. Don't embarrass yourself. There's work at the company. I have to go."
Dean said this and left directly, without even looking at Aurora.
Aurora let out a cold laugh, stubbornly biting her lip to hold back her tears. For more than ten years, Dean had long stopped caring about her as his daughter. She had no attachment to this family anymore.
As soon as Dean left, Nicole revealed her sharp and mean face, "I didn't expect you to dare to escape the marriage! How do you like this big gift from me? Satisfied?"
Aurora's eyes were cold, "Nicole, you're so despicable. Aren't you afraid of retribution?"
Nicole laughed smugly, "My daughter is already firmly in the position of Mrs. Taylor. You are not worthy to compete with her. Aurora, a few years ago, you already had a child with someone else. Daniel probably doesn't know about this, does he? Do you think you can hide it from the Taylor family by not saying anything?"
Being stabbed in the deepest part of her heart, Aurora's face turned pale.
"It was you and Emily who set me up back then!"
Yes, Aurora did have a child five years ago, but the child died shortly after birth, and she still didn't know who the father was.
She didn't have the courage to tell Daniel about this; it was a nightmare she wanted to escape from.
Nicole sneered, "So what if we set you up? Even if you tell, your dad won't believe you. Aurora, everything in the White family belongs to my daughter. Your dad has long given up on you."
"And let me tell you one more thing, the child you had back then, he didn't die. He's a very handsome boy."
"What? Where is my child?" Aurora was shocked, her heart aching as she thought of the child.
"Do you want to know?" Nicole smiled viciously. "Kneel down and beg me, and I'll tell you."
"Nicole!" Aurora almost bit her lip to the point of bleeding. "One day, I will make sure you get the punishment you deserve!"
Nicole would never tell her the whereabouts of the child; she just wanted to humiliate her!
Aurora clenched her fists. She would find out everything about the child sooner or later. As for Nicole and her daughter, she would never let them go!
Moonlight Restaurant.
Aurora drank one glass of wine after another, without touching the food. She didn't know how much she had drunk; her head was already spinning, drunk beyond measure.
Whenever she thought about how her happiness was destroyed by Nicole and Emily, and how Daniel abandoned her, her chest felt like it was being torn apart.
"Aurora, stop drinking." Sophia grabbed the wine from Aurora's hand and said angrily, "They're really despicable to hurt you so badly! Fortunately, you didn't marry into the Lewis family, otherwise, your whole life would be ruined."
Sophia changed her tone, "Actually, if Mr. Lewis wasn't doomed to die young, being Mrs. Lewis would've been way better than Mrs. Taylor. The Taylor family and the Lewis family are not even comparable."
Mr. Lewis was very mysterious, and few people had seen him. There were all kinds of rumors circulating within the inner circles.
"Sophia, I feel terrible. My dad condoned Nicole and Emily's behavior, setting me up. He never considered me his daughter!"
Being abandoned and framed by her closest family, Aurora felt very hurt.
What hurt even more was that she still hadn't been able to contact Daniel.
"Daniel doesn't want me either, Sophia. I have nothing left." Aurora lay on the table, tears streaming down like rain.
"You still have me, Aurora. Don't cry." Sophia felt both heartache and anger. "It's just Daniel. I'll find you someone better. I know many high-quality bachelor, rich and handsome. How about I introduce you to them?"
As Sophia finished speaking, Aurora's mind suddenly flashed to the face of the man from yesterday. Thinking of their entanglement, her face flushed again.
Why was she thinking about that man?
"I'll call someone for you right now. Losing one man is not a big deal." Sophia said as she went to make a call.
Aurora, drunk and groggy, reached for the wine but suddenly saw a familiar figure.
It was Daniel! She had to find him and get an explanation!
Aurora instantly sobered up and stumbled after him.
