Chapter 5: Be My Boyfriend
The car was halfway there when Aurora mumbled, "Stop the car. I'm going to throw up."
John quickly found a place to pull over, intending to help her out of the car. She stared at him with a dazed look, "You men are all no good."
Seeing that she was really drunk, John was about to say something when she suddenly vomited.
John's clothes were covered in vomit, which made him very uncomfortable as he was always a neat freak.
Aurora woke up to find the sun had already risen.
When she realized she had woken up in the car and that the man from the night before was still beside her, now without his shirt, she felt as if she were dreaming.
'Jesus, what on earth did I do last night? Did I strip him and sleep with him? Drinking really does cause trouble!' she said inwardly.
Aurora rubbed her head, calmed herself down, and got out of the car. It was very quiet with no one around. She found a rock to sit on and stared blankly into the distance.
After seeing Daniel's true colors, she felt a sense of relief.
If Daniel knew she had a child a few years ago, he would probably be even more cruel to her, even though she had been a victim from start to finish.
Now, she no longer had to worry about her secret being discovered by Daniel.
But thinking about the sweet moments with Daniel over the past year still made Aurora feel a bit sad.
John had already woken up. He waited for Aurora to calm down a bit before walking over with two bottles of water.
"Drink some water to soothe your throat. You cried a lot last night, so your throat must hurt."
Aurora steadied herself, "Why were you at Moonlight Restaurant?"
She thought she had gotten into a taxi. Now that she was sober, she realized she had gotten into the wrong car. But how did she end up in his car?
"It's fate," John raised an eyebrow slightly, "I happened to be passing by and saw you at the restaurant entrance. You women always say one thing and mean another, acting reserved at first, but last night you were so forward..."
He was about to say that Aurora had gotten into his car on her own last night.
Before he could finish, Aurora blushed and quickly said, "Stop talking. I was drunk last night. I'll take responsibility."
John frowned, thinking over Aurora's words, and then looked at his shirtless state. He quickly understood that Aurora had misunderstood what happened last night.
After Aurora had thrown up on him, he had thrown away his clothes.
"Drunk? That's indeed a very good excuse," John said with a smile, not bothering to explain, "I tried calling your number, but it was disconnected. I know you look down on me because I'm poor. If you don't want to see me, I can leave now and never bother you again."
He sounded just as disappointed as before.
Aurora didn't know why, but she couldn't resist John's tone. It made her feel guilty.
"No, I don't look down on you. The phone number is correct. How could it be disconnected?" Aurora took a deep breath, "My name is Aurora. What's yours?"
John smiled and introduced himself, "John, a poor guy who runs errands and delivers goods for others. I'm thirty years old and in good health, have no bad habits, and have normal sexual function, which you..."
He was going to say that Aurora could verify it herself in the future, but remembering her earlier misunderstanding, he changed it to, "which you verified last night."
"Ahem!" Aurora blushed deeply.
She wondered, 'Did I really sleep with him last night?Wait, why does the name John sound so familiar? The man I almost married before was also named John!'
But rumors said Mr. Lewis had a crippled leg and a disfigured face and wouldn't live long, while the man in front of her was healthy and very handsome. He was just an ordinary poor guy, so how could he be Mr. Lewis?
It seemed to be just a coincidence of the same name.
John observed Aurora's expression and continued, "I don't have any siblings either. I was supposed to get married, but on the wedding day, I got delayed helping you, and now the woman has called off the engagement. I'm currently single."
John's sincere gaze made Aurora's heart skip a beat.
Thinking of Daniel's change of heart, Aurora looked calmly at John, "Would you like to be my boyfriend?"
John was taken aback but then laughed, "I don't want to be your boyfriend."
Being rejected made Aurora feel a bit awkward.
She was about to speak when John suddenly changed the subject and said, "I want to be your husband."
Aurora's eyes widened. "Isn't this too fast?"
She thought they could take it step by step. They were already together, so perhaps they could try dating. If it didn't work out, they could part ways. If Daniel could be with Emily, why should she dwell on the past? However, she admitted that asking him to be her boyfriend did have a bit of a retaliatory motive.
Seeing Aurora's surprised expression, John also worried that he might have been too hasty and scared her off.
"Then I'll take a step back and be your boyfriend first," John said gently. "We've only just met, and we do need to get to know each other better."
Why did his tone sound a bit reluctant to her?
Aurora asked, "Your bride called off the wedding. Are your parents okay? Do you need me to do anything?"
"They are very upset. They went on a trip yesterday to relax and are currently unreachable," John said, making up a story with a straight face. "When they come back, I'll take you to meet them."
Aurora didn't think much of it because her stomach was already growling with hunger.
John smiled and naturally took Aurora's hand. "Come on, let me take you to eat."
John's action startled Aurora. She looked at their interlocked fingers, and her face turned red again. His palm was warm, and the touch of his skin sent a strange feeling through her heart. She thought she must be crazy, hastily confirming their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend with someone she had only met twice. But when she thought of Daniel and Emily's faces, any guilt and shame she felt disappeared.
John had been observing Aurora's reactions, and a sly smile played at the corners of his mouth.
John took Aurora to a nearby restaurant. It wasn't very fancy, but it was clean and tidy.
"Order whatever you like," John said, handing the menu to Aurora with gentlemanly grace.
Aurora glanced at the menu. The prices were reasonable, so she ordered two dishes and a soup.
Seeing that she had ordered so little, John frowned. "Order a few more dishes."
"No need, it's just the two of us. We won't be able to finish too much," Aurora said, stopping him. "Delivery work is hard, and earning money isn't easy. Let's not waste it."
'Is she trying to save money for me?' he thought.
John's frown relaxed, and a faint smile appeared. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
Then, John suddenly handed a bank card to Aurora. "This is my savings. It's not much, just a few thousand dollars. The password is the last six digits."
"What are you doing?" Aurora was a bit confused.
"From now on, my monthly salary will also be handed over to you. I earn about a thousand dollars a month right now, which isn't much, but I'll work hard to earn more and give you a better life."
Aurora was flattered. They had known each other for less than two days, and he was already giving her all his savings?
"You keep it. I have a job and don't need your money," Aurora quickly refused.
"You're my girlfriend now. It's only right for you to manage my money," John said, forcing the bank card into Aurora's hand. "Isn't this what you women call a sense of security?"
Aurora was stunned. So John was giving her a sense of security?
There was a saying online that a man's heart is where his money is. Holding the bank card in her hand, Aurora indeed felt a sense of security. The man in front of her might not be wealthy, but he was sincere. Aurora had never dreamed of marrying into a wealthy family or living a life of luxury. She had always wanted a simple and warm life. She thought Daniel could give her that, but Daniel was too ambitious. He wasn't content with simplicity and wanted to fight for inheritance rights.
"Then I'll keep it for you for now. Let me know when you need to use the money," Aurora said, no longer refusing.
"Alright!" John said with a smile. "Just give me some pocket money each month."
The dishes were served, and Aurora, truly hungry, began to eat. John ate very little, focusing on serving Aurora food and pouring her water.
The two dined at a roadside restaurant like any ordinary couple, and this scene, witnessed by Todd as he passed by, was nothing short of shocking. 'Am I seeing things? The head of the Lewis family is actually eating at a roadside restaurant with a woman?' he exclaimed inwardly.
