Chapter 6: You Have to Pursue Your Own Wife
Todd rubbed his eyes, confirmed he wasn't seeing things, and quickly ran over.
This was too outrageous! He had to find out what was going on.
In the restaurant, Aurora had finished eating. She noticed that John hadn't eaten much while she had eaten a lot, and felt a bit embarrassed. "Is the food not to your taste?"
John shook his head and said meaningfully, "I ate too much last night."
At first, Aurora didn't catch on, but when she understood what John meant, her face turned red in an instant.
"I'm full," Aurora said, and then felt she might have said the wrong thing.
Sure enough, she heard John say with a sly smile, "Hmm, it seems you're very satisfied with my stamina."
"That's not what I meant." Aurora wished she could find a hole to crawl into. "Last night, we..."
John intentionally said, "Exactly what you're thinking."
Aurora was too embarrassed to ask for more details. "I really blacked out."
She was about to explain when she saw a well-dressed stranger walking over.
"Boss." Todd had a gossipy smile on his face.
If the guys knew the boss had a woman by his side, they'd be shocked.
John glanced at Todd indifferently. Aurora asked curiously, "Your friend?"
'Isn't John from an ordinary family? How could he have such a well-dressed friend?' she wondered.
"Not very familiar." John said casually, giving Todd a subtle look, indicating he should keep quiet.
Todd's eyes widened when he heard that.
They had been friends for over a decade, yet John said they were not very familiar. Fine, considering he was on a date with a beautiful woman, Todd would play along.
"Yeah, not very familiar, just ordinary friends." Todd glanced at Aurora, clearly impressed. "Just call me Todd."
Todd had seen many beautiful women, but Aurora's natural beauty stunned him.
Aurora smiled and greeted, "Hello, I'm Aurora."
Aurora? Why did that name sound so familiar?
Before Todd could recall, John added, "My girlfriend."
Those few words shocked Todd so much that his mouth could fit an egg.
"Girlfriend?"
Todd thought John was just on a date with a beautiful woman, but he didn't expect such a formal introduction.
The head of the Lewis family had a girlfriend!
Aurora shyly lowered her head. She had indeed confirmed her relationship with John, so she couldn't deny it.
Just then, Sophia called, and Aurora realized she had left Sophia alone at the restaurant last night.
After hanging up, Aurora said, "I need to find my friend. I left her at the restaurant last night. You have to deliver goods this afternoon, right? I won't keep you any longer."
John, showing his boyfriend power, said, "I'll drive you."
"No need, I can go by myself." Aurora pointed at her phone. "We can stay in touch by phone."
They had just exchanged contact information again.
"Alright." John didn't insist.
Aurora took a cab and left. After she was gone, Todd shook off his reverie and returned to his senses.
"I remember now. Isn't the eldest daughter of the White family, the one you called off the engagement with, named Aurora? Was that her?"
John replied, "That's right."
Todd was shocked. "Boss, you called off the engagement and then went on a date with her? What's going on?"
John smirked. "She said the eldest son of the Lewis family was disfigured, crippled, and doomed to live short, so she refused to marry me."
"Wasn't it you who spread those rumors?" Todd reminded him lightly. "Boss, don't forget, you've 'killed' three wives. The rumors outside say you caused their deaths. Now, there aren't many women in Silvercrest City who dare marry you, which is why Mr. Lewis specifically chose a woman from the White family."
"I forgot." John said lightly, looking in the direction Aurora had left, his eyes filled with a touch of gentleness. "You can't force something that isn't meant to be. It's more interesting to pursue your own wife."
Todd was stunned. "Boss, you mean you're now pursuing Miss White? Isn't this redundant? Doesn't Miss White know your identity?"
He could have just married her directly, but instead, he called off the engagement and then pursued her. Wasn't this redundant?
"It's quite interesting." John's eyes were filled with intense interest. "You, a single person, wouldn't understand this kind of fun."
Todd smiled but didn't speak.
'He's the one who's been single all along, right? Isn't it just a two-day relationship?' he thought.
Todd couldn't help but say, "Boss, calling off the engagement was already outside the plan. If those people find out you're with Miss White, it won't be good for the plan."
John's eyes narrowed dangerously. "I know what I'm doing."
"Boss, are you serious?" Todd thought John was just playing around, but it didn't seem like it. He hesitated, "If those people know about Miss White..."
"Anyone who doesn't want to live can come and try." John's cold tone was filled with intense killing intent.
Todd was shocked.
John shouldn't have vulnerabilities, and he couldn't have any! What kind of magic did Miss White have?
Todd sighed and suddenly remembered what Aurora had said earlier. "Boss, did Miss White just say you were going to deliver goods?"
"Yeah." John shook the car keys in his hand. "I told Aurora my job is running errands and delivering goods. I need to make money to support my wife."
With that, John walked towards a car worth about ten thousand dollars parked by the roadside.
Todd's jaw dropped again.
'He's really going all out to pursue Miss White. The Lewis family's grocery shopping car alone costs millions! Is this how rich people play now?The boss had me prepare a cheap car to pursue his wife?' he thought.
John opened the car door and added, "Don't say anything unnecessary in front of her."
Todd's instinct to stay out of trouble was strong, and he immediately made a zipping motion. "I promise I won't say anything."
John got in the car, opened his contact list, and saved Aurora's number as "Wild Cat." Then he sent a message to the contact saved as Elena Summers: [Transfer $12,00 to my card every month.]
He had just given his salary card to Aurora, and Aurora thought his salary was only over $10,00. This couldn't be exposed.
In the Lewis Family Group's secretarial department, Elena received her boss's order and was puzzled by the amount.
'Did he miss a few zeros?Yes, he must have missed a few zeros. It should be at least $1.2 million. I should transfer $1.2 million to the card!' she thought.
