Chapter 2 My Worldview Is Totally Shattered
"Everyone, get the stretcher ready. We're taking him back!"
Everyone had a look of silent mourning.
If it were anyone else daring to provoke Wesley like this, they would definitely be considered mentally unstable.
But for John, who occasionally acted abnormal, this scene was quite normal, not out of expectation.
Wesley asked, "Tell me, what happened?"
Wesley sat down in his office chair and lit a cigarette.
John replied, "Mr. Hughes, I might be having some mental issues lately."
Wesley said, "You've used that excuse twenty-three times. Try another one."
John said, "I..."
Wesley took a light drag of his cigarette, squinting his eyes as he looked at John.
Wesley asked again, "Do you really not know how to solve the problem on the blackboard today?"
Although Wesley appeared rugged on the outside, he was extremely attentive. He had been able to discern John's confusion at the time.
The question was very basic and extremely simple.
John replied, "Mr. Hughes, I really didn't know. I don't even know what a Beast Tamer is now."
He had just taken a nap in class, and the world had changed.
The familiar subjects like math, language, and science were gone, replaced by some bizarre Beast Taming knowledge, and he had even awakened a strange system.
Wesley said, "Well, today is Saturday, and tomorrow is the weekend. Go home and rest for a day."
Surprisingly, Wesley didn't make things difficult for John.
He seemed hot-tempered, but he was actually very gentle inside, especially since he knew John's father.
John said happily, "Thank you, Mr. Hughes."
John picked up the leave slip from the desk and turned to leave.
He really needed some time to adjust.
After waking up in class, he felt like his worldview had collapsed.
John said, "Today is a good day. Everything I wish for can come true."
John whistled as he looked at the empty school.
It was class time, so naturally, there were no students around.
Although the world had changed, the familiar people hadn't.
John remained calm, especially since he had awakened a system, which was obviously a good thing.
"Boy! It's class time. Why are you wandering around the school?" A teacher spotted John wandering around.
John replied, "I feel unwell."
Looking at the student's proud and confident back, the teacher, Harper Adams muttered, "It seems his condition is quite serious."
John rode a shared bike and quickly returned home.
"John, are you okay?" As soon as he got home, John's mother asked with concern.
Apparently, Wesley had called home in advance.
John answered, "Mom, I'm fine, just a bit confused."
John returned home and suddenly remembered something.
John asked, "Mom, is it 2021 now?"
Grace replied, "What are you talking about? It's Galactic Era 980."
John said to himself, "Looks like I'm not fully recovered yet."
John rubbed his temples and turned back to his room.
Although the world had changed, technology hadn't. The internet was still the best way to understand the world.
John skillfully turned on his computer and made himself a steaming cup of coffee.
John said, "I need to see what the world has become."
John kept browsing the news online.
He thought he was prepared, but he still found the news ridiculous.
[A celebrity Beast Tamer has been caught in a shocking scandal and sent to jail.]
[Beast Taming Glory has started a new season, waiting for you to battle!]
[A new Alternate Dimension has appeared in Qingyuan Mountain of Digital City, with wind-attribute beasts. Beast Tamers are eagerly awaited!]
[The CEO of Feixun Group has advanced to a King-level Beast Tamer, and their new contract spirit is an SS-level Ice Emperor Penguin!]
John moved the mouse with his right hand and kept rubbing his temples with his left.
'My head hurts!' he lamented inwardly.
After several hours, John's worldview kept collapsing and rebuilding.
Finally, he had a basic understanding of the world.
The world had changed a lot. Various cities would randomly have Alternate Dimensions.
In Auroria alone, there were hundreds of Alternate Dimensions, filled with dangerous beasts.
But humanity had a way to deal with it: Beast Tamers.
Everyone could undergo an awakening ceremony at the age of fifteen.
If they could awaken the Beast Taming talent and form a contract with a creature from another world, they would have the potential to become a Beast Tamer.
Powerful Beast Tamers could command contract spirits to fight, guard Alternate Dimensions, and protect humanity.
This naturally gave Beast Tamers a high social status.
Grace said, "John, come out for dinner."
John, holding his coffee, staggered out.
Grace said, "What's wrong with you?"
John's mother touched his forehead and asked with concern.
At that moment, John's father, Sebastian Frost, came home from work.
Sebastian said, "John, I heard you were sick. I bought you some medicine just in time for a sale at the pharmacy."
With that, he threw a big bag of various medicines onto the couch.
John asked, "Dad, why did you buy so much medicine?"
John felt helpless. There were many medicines, but none could cure his condition.
John asked, "By the way, Mom and Dad, are you Beast Tamers?"
He suddenly thought of something.
After hours of browsing, the term Beast Tamer left the deepest impression on him.
"Of course, I work at a Beast Taming unit." Sebastian felt proud and took out a red gift box. "This is a reward from work, a low-grade flame potion."
John looked at the red liquid in the delicate bottle and then at his red coffee.
"Is this potion valuable?" John gulped and asked softly.
Sebastian replied, "Of course, the flame potion can permanently enhance a contract spirit's fire attribute. This bottle is worth thousands of Stellar Coins."
Sebastian carefully stored the potion. "Of course, we don't need it, so we'll sell it for some money."
Sebastian asked, "John, what are you drinking that's so red?"
Sebastian suddenly noticed John's red coffee.
John replied, "Nothing, nothing."
John gulped down the coffee.
He expected the system's reward, the low-grade flame potion, to be less expensive.
He had just answered a multiple-choice question and got a reward worth thousands of Stellar Coins.
Unfortunately, there was no water at home in the afternoon, so he used it to make coffee.
No wonder John felt so warm.
John asked, "Dad, is it harmful to humans to drink the low-grade flame potion?"
Sebastian replied, "Humans shouldn't drink it."
John felt helpless, but since his body felt warm and there were no other side effects, he didn't mind.
John asked again, "Dad, since you're a Beast Tamer, you must have a contracted spirit, right?"
"Of course, that's my contract spirit." Sebastian pointed to the fish tank in the living room.
Inside, a small red fish was swimming around.
John was speechless.
The fish they had kept for so many years was actually his father's contract spirit!
