Chapter 2: My birthday

Maddie

"Do you remember the human's name, Logan?" asked Kurt, laughing.

Logan crouched down and looked at me; I thought he was going to kill me right then and there.

"I remember by accident. You're a piece of human scum... we're wolves! If we could, we'd kill you right now, but why bother?"

"She's not worth it! She's just a fool who liked to play chess and do gymnastics nonsense..." Dominic mentioned, and it seemed that the brothers were more aware of me than I thought. Though I suppose not for the best reasons.

"She's a loser!" the blond one shouted.

Suddenly they pushed me and I heard something break. I saw with horror that it was my dad's watch; the glass was shattered and Dominic stepped on it.

"No... no..." I whispered.

"Ohhh... are you going to cry, little human?"

"Poor bitch!" they said, laughing at me as I held back the tears.

"We should get rid of this stupid girl..." Logan said.

"We will not stain ourselves with human blood..." said Dominic, his green eyes shining in the darkness.

"We... will fight to the end..." I said and in one swift movement Logan grabbed me by the collar of my jacket.

He lifted me as if I weighed nothing; I kicked and struggled, but it was as if I was a fly to them.

"You're going to have to leave town, whether you want to or not... there can be no one left by tomorrow night. Do you understand, little mouse? Or can't your brain process the information?" Logan asks me with hatred.

And I made a move, I'm still unsure if it was stupid or brave, but they didn't see it coming because they never saw me as a threat.

I pulled the knife from my pocket and slashed him across the face, from chin to cheek.

"Bitch!" he yelled, throwing me to the ground. Dominic approached, and I slashed his hand as well, right across the knuckles.

"Damn human!" I watched them bleed. Logan roared as the others held him back.

And I don't know why... but they let me get away. As I ran, I heard them shouting.

"Tell your people to leave and never come back! You must leave here!" they shouted.

"The next time we see you, we'll kill you, human! I swear!" I heard as I awake.

I wasn't holding the knife, and I wasn't fifteen years old.

I was in my house and Mark was looking at me worriedly.

"Are you okay?"

"I had that nightmare again..."

It had happened, and no matter how hard I tried to forget it, I couldn't. They almost killed me.

"Damn wolves..." Mark said angrily. Time had made him bitter.

After that night, the wolves forced us to flee and leave everything behind; they destroyed our homes, kicked us out. Years later, we managed to get a small house in another town, Three Streams, but we had lost everything.

Our mother worked day and night, Mark as a laborer on another farm, and I barely finished school.

Goodbye to a college, a career or continuing with gymnastics. In our situation, I had to be thankful for having two jobs.

“But today, you’re going to enjoy yourself, right Maddie?” my mom said lovingly at breakfast. It was my eighteenth birthday.

“I just want to go to work and...”

“No way... today we’re going to celebrate. I promise you’ll have an unforgettable day. I already talked to Robin... so you have no excuses,” Mark said. And not to dampen his excitement, I agreed.

“Where are we going?” I asked Robin for the fifth time while she was doing my hair.

My BFF had also suffered the same consequences as us and hated the wolves. Her family had lost an entire successful business.

She was smart and beautiful, with dark skin, amazing curves, and black curly hair that reached down to her waist. If we had continued our normal life, she would have everything she wanted; she’d be the queen of the school, the queen of the town.

“I don’t know, but I have faith in Mark, so we must look pretty,” she said. I knew part of the reason: she liked my brother.

“And Kevin’s coming too...” she said, smiling. He had become more attractive over the years. So yes, I had many reasons to go out and look good.

I had a short silver dress and comfortable, I use as always my dad's watch, even if it was broken.

“A club? Seriously?”

“Of course, little sister... I know you’re not a child anymore, so you’re ready for this,” my brother said.

“A club… in another town. Where no one knows us,” added Kevin, giving me an appreciative look. I didn’t think I was as beautiful as Robin, but today I could say I looked good.

It was a small club, but to me, it seemed like the best place in the world. For one night, I drank alcohol, danced, and enjoyed myself, like any girl without worries.

“You look gorgeous, Maddie...” he said looking at my cleavage and I smiled.

“You know… I haven’t wanted to get too close, but… I mean because of your brother I keep my distance… but I think you know how I feel about you,” I felt was the happiest girl in the world.

He placed his hands on my waist, and kissed me softly. His kisses tasted a bit like alcohol, and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

If this was a birthday gift, it was very good.

But then, suddenly, we heard noises.

“What’s going on?” Kevin asked, alert.

“I’m afraid of wolves are coming... we have to get out of here.”

“What?”

“Over here!” Robin shouted as the four of us tried to escape. I had lost my moment with Kevin; I would never forgive it.

“Here...” Mark instructed as we hid behind some cars.

And I saw them pass... the triplets. I would never forget their faces. I had a strange feeling in my stomach, a mix of excitement and fear that I couldn’t understand.

“The Three Dragons... ” Mark said with hatred. That’s what they used to call them, though to me, they were the Three Assholes.

I hadn’t seen them since that time in the forest… and sadly I had to admit that the triplets were more attractive than ever; they looked huge and full of muscles and tattoos.

“Damn it, those wolves are too damn hot...they look like models. They are gorgeous” Robin whispered to me, and I elbowed her in the ribs.

“Ouch!”

“Shhhhhh...”

“I hate them, but I'm not blind. Look at those blondes over there…damn” she says and I saw a tall pair of blondes werewolves.

“Come on Robin!” I whisper.

“Look, the dark-haired one has a scar in his face,” Kevin said.

“It must have been a fierce battle; wolves heal quickly from wounds,” added my brother.

“Is that true?” I asked, and Mark nodded.

“I think… it was me,” I said, and everyone looked at me, astonished.

“You must be mistaken, baby...” Kevin said condescendingly.

“But…” I said, moving when Kevin pulled me to the ground. I watched as the triplets seemed to stop, looking around nervously.

“Everyone, stay silent,” Mark whispered.

“We have to go,” Kevin indicated once the wolves had entered one of the buildings. We were walking down the path when suddenly we heard a noise.

“What’s that?” I asked, but it was already too late.

“Look what we have here, some humans and some stupid peasants,” the men said, and evidently, they were wolves.

“Run!” my brother shouted, but we couldn’t escape. Kevin was hit, and even though my brother fought, they captured Robin and me.

“Mark! Mark!” I shouted as darkness enveloped us.
