Chapter 10

Orian Moon himself...

The dark silhouette merely makes a gesture. Torin fishes out a set of keys from his pocket and opens the cell’s gate. Torin steps aside and Orian moves, prowling inside with lion-like power. The darkness clings to him and it's the air around him seems to thicken with a silent warning of the danger he embodies. Every step he takes resonates with an unspoken menace, even the shadows submit to his dominion.

“Did you search her?” His voice rumbles, wrought with authority.

“All her belongings were in the car,” Torin answers with a small voice, dropped into innate submission.

He shakes his head rigidly, as if annoyed. Then he advances to me, slowly and dauntingly. My back is already pressed against the wall with nowhere to go. I can only pray that it swallows me whole. Orian comes so close that there’s not even air left between us, easily dwarfing me. He stares down at me, his scrutiny searing through me.

I find my voice. “What are you doing?” Barely audible.

He lowers himself to his haunches, never breaking eye contact. My heart leaps to my throat. His hands examine me, thoroughly. My gaze shoots up, locking eyes with Torin, and he suddenly looks different. Though they are almost the same height, he suddenly seems so much smaller.

Paralyzed, control over my own body stolen by dread. All my training, techniques and lessons vanish from my mind like I’ve gone blank in the middle of an exam. Orian’s hands glide up gradually, sending a wave of heat through me, every part of me tautening. His hands near my ass—near my phone—I shove his hands away.

“That’s enough,” I say, as intimidating as I can, but I sound like a frightened chipmunk.

Orian rises to full height. He observes me with silent intensity for a long, excruciating moment. With lightning-swift movement, he grabs and spins me around, pinning me flat against the wall. I muffle a gasp. He right out gropes my ass even though the phone is clearly visible. He slides it out and swivels me around, shoving me back against it, his hand planted on my shoulder, keeping me deadly still.

He pivots to throw my phone back at Torin. He catches it with one hand.

“That’s why you should have searched her.” He looks back at me. His eyes as black and void as this cell. ”Torakkā wa arimasu ka?”

Torin answers back, but even I can detect his dubiousness. Which enrages Orian. He repeats the same question again and Torin gives him the same answer. Maddened, he liberates me from his hold, backing away. Then, with one fluid motion his hand goes for the back of his waistband, whipping out a gun. The barrel pointed at my forehead.

“No!”

Torin lunges for him. The gun goes off. A loud ricocheting sound rattles my brain. My vision falls on its side and my whole world turns black.
