Chapter 5 I Am Your Elder

Luna received a notification to return to the team. Joah and the others had gone out on an urgent mission. The suspects had dropped their suspicions about Luna and returned to their hideout.

Luna was assigned to stay on duty.

The only ones left in the office were her and Mr. Scott, who was just a month away from retirement. His perpetual cold expression made it seem like the world owed him millions.

Luna needed some information for a report and, after a fruitless search, she approached Paul Scott. “Mr. Scott, could you please let me know if you have this information?”

Though Luna spoke politely, a sense of unease lingered, as no one on the team enjoyed dealing with Paul Scott. He turned his chair, presenting his back to her, and replied dismissively, “I don’t know!”

Luna stood speechless, ready to ask again when her phone rang. Seeing an unknown number, she assumed it was spam and disconnected the call, having no time for distractions.

On the other end, Charles was incredulous.

‘She hung up on me? Does she have any idea who I am? Does she think she can just refuse the divorce?’ he fumed, dialing again without hesitation.

Luna looked up to find Paul had already left, but her phone rang again. Annoyed, she muttered, “Spam calls to a cop? Really?”

Despite her frustration, seeing the persistent caller ID, she answered this time. A deep, magnetic, and irate voice came through, “I’m your husband! Why did you hang up on me?”

Luna was momentarily stunned, having completely forgotten about her recent marriage. She retorted, “You my husband? And I’m your father!”

Without another word, Charles hung up instantly. Enraged at being addressed as a junior, he threw his phone onto the car seat.

Everyone fell silent—the driver, bodyguard, and assistant dared not exchange glances. Word had spread: Mr. Lee had married the wrong person today! The actual bride, still in the hospital after an accident, was no longer a factor. Divorce would take a month, and yet Mrs. Lee’s insistence that he marry Anna Greene complicated everything further.

Charles’s brow furrowed with the weight of his predicament. He shouldn’t have conceded to Ashley’s marriage plans; now he was trapped in this debacle.

Luna, about to vent her frustration through the phone, suddenly remembered her impromptu registration.

‘What was that man’s name, my so-called husband?’ she thought, patting her head as she dialed back to explain. To her dismay, she found he had blocked her number.

‘This guy has quite the temper,’ she thought with a resigned sigh.

Switching to a landline, she dialed again. The phone rang for a long time before a familiar, but now even colder, male voice answered.

"Speak!" Charles’s tone barely concealed his anger.

Luna hastily explained, “I’m sorry, Mr. Lee! I truly forgot about the registration. I belong to a special department, and typically registrations require an approved application. I don't understand how ours went through directly. Could there be a procedural error? If so, can we apply to annul the marriage directly?”
