Chapter 5: Panties in a twist

“Hey sweetheart, missed me?”

His cologne enveloped my senses as I inhaled deeply, the same scent that lingered on my skin after our encounter months ago.

The very fragrance made me feel lightheaded. Before it could do so again, I slapped his hand away from my mouth.

“Are you out of your mind? Do you realize the repercussions if we get caught?” I asked, incredulous at his actions.

Even though we weren't explicitly doing anything, it was evident that we were somehow entangled. There would be no other plausible explanation for why my husband's brother was alone with me in a secluded room if we were discovered.

He might escape unscathed because he is a Harvey by blood, but if they decided to take action against me, it would jeopardize the investments they had made in my family business. I couldn't allow that to happen.

So I glared at him, making it clear that I wasn't tolerating any of this nonsense.

And even then, he had the audacity to laugh.

“Oh, don't be angry, sweetheart. I just wanted to know how you've been,” he said in a low, silky voice.

“And you couldn't have asked that normally, like people usually do?” I retorted.

“And risk being overheard by anyone in the house and becoming the subject of their speculation as to why I was asking about you when we don't share such a relationship? Hardly,” he countered, making me realize he was indeed right.

I rolled my eyes and refused to concede verbally. He seemed to know that, as he chuckled and suddenly pulled me flush against him by the waist.

With wide eyes, I stumbled towards him, placing both hands on his chest to prevent myself from crashing into him.

I pushed against him, trying to break free, but it only made him tighten his grip.

“Leave me, Jason!” I whisper-yelled at him, but he only smirked in return.

“If I do, you'll run away,” he said, and I rolled my eyes, exasperated.

“As I should!” I shot back, still trying to break free from his hold.

“But you don't want to,” he said, making me look up at him.

His smirking face was now filled with seriousness.

I frowned and asked, “And why wouldn't I?”

He put on a contemplative face before slowly sliding his hand down to my ass.

As soon as his hands reached there, I gasped.

He wasn't doing anything overtly improper, just holding me with his body pressed to mine and tracing circles with his fingers over my clothed buttocks.

But it still made my insides squirm with anticipation.

An anticipation, I didn't want to feel. This was wrong. I couldn't allow myself to feel this way for my brother-in-law. That night all those months ago was different—we were both people who were not only unrelated but also unbound by societal relationships.

And last night... Last night was just a mistake. One that I didn't want to repeat.

So no matter how much my body craved his touches, as it only made me remember that night, I grabbed his hands on my ass and pulled them away.

“Do not mess with me, Jason Harvey! You don't know the woman I am! Stay the fuck away from me!” I warned him, and it seemed to put him in a momentary daze, which I used to move away from his hold.

I gave him one last look before turning around and walking away, intending to leave the room.

As my hand touched the doorknob, I heard him speaking from behind me, where he stood.

“Are you sure you want me to be away, sweetheart? Because I'm sure your wet panties will beg to differ.” He whispered just enough for me to hear and shiver at the thought that he knew I was wet even without touching me.

I refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing my flustered face, both from anger and embarrassment. So I flicked him a bird over my shoulder and opened the door to leave.

With his laughter echoing in the room,.

As soon as I entered my bedroom, I walked straight to the walk-in closet and pulled out some clothes, desperate for a cold shower.

Because that infuriating man had left my pants in a twist just by his words.

On my way over to the bathroom, I ignored my husband, who I just noticed was sitting on the bed with a file on his lap, looking at me as if I were crazy.

After an hour of showering and pleasuring myself with fantasies that didn't involve my husband, I left the bathroom, content and sated.

By then, my husband had left the room.

“Good for him,” I mumbled to myself, not wanting to face him after having just gotten off at the thought of his brother.

I checked my phone and saw a text from an unknown number.

When I opened it, I realized it was from Grandpa Harvey's secretary, who had sent me a brochure detailing the things I would need to know for my first day at the office tomorrow.

As I skimmed through the brochure, I realized that Grandpa was still holding the  position of Chairman, with my father-in-law serving as the Managing Director, the second-highest position in the company. The role of CEO was occupied by a man named Chris Matthews.

I furrowed my brows at that. Almost all of the executive positions were filled by people with the last name Harvey. It seemed weird to me that such an important position of CEO was filled by someone outside the clan.

But I brushed the thought away. Maybe it was because he was delinquent, deserving, and possessed skills that he filled up for the position.

Although I couldn't find much about him in his about info, except for his work experience and journey in the company,.

Luke was in charge of the Human Resources department, responsible for employee recruitment, training, and welfare. Jason oversaw both the finance and marketing departments, managing financial planning, budgeting, and promotional strategies.

What surprised me the most was that the managerial position was filled by none other than my sister-in-law, Caroline Harvey. But when I saw the long list of her achievements, it didn't leave any doubt in my head.

She was of the same age as me but had already been working for the company for the past two years, starting in the position of an assistant in the Finance Department. What was impressive was that she was managing her work with her studies, and she graduated only last year with a degree in finance and business administration.

Tomorrow was going to be a hectic day, to say the least. I was excited, as this would be my first in-office work experience.

As I was reading the brochure, another text from an unknown number popped up on the top of my screen:

“Welcome to Harvey Co. & Co., Assistant Amara. Yours truly, Jason.”

Now, I am not so excited.
