Chapter 7: I Only Like Your Body

Charlotte rushed home, pushing open the door to find Maria on the couch, deep in thought. The moment Maria saw her, she stood up, eyes full of hope.

Charlotte, looking pale, shook her head.

Maria's face fell, and she slumped back onto the couch, disappointment written all over her face.

Seeing Maria's reaction, Charlotte felt a pang of sadness. Maria knew that only if Frederick took the case could her father get a not-guilty verdict.

"Maria, don't lose hope. We can still find another lawyer," Charlotte tried to comfort her.

Maria forced a weak smile. "You don't look so good. Get some rest."

Charlotte went straight to her bedroom and headed for the bathroom. She couldn't wait to wash away Frederick's traces on her.

She took a shower and some medicine, but she still caught a cold and felt dizzy.

At midnight, Lily sent a message, eager to know the outcome.

[Charlotte, did Mr. Hawkins agree?]

Charlotte looked at the phone screen, unsure how to respond. She simply replied: [No.]

Lily was shocked. [Could it be that Frederick has a problem? You were all over each other while playing pool; how can he resist being alone together?]

Charlotte didn't want to explain further. She didn't want Lily to know what had happened that night; it would only make her feel more humiliated.

In the morning, Charlotte woke up feeling worse. She took her temperature and found she had a fever, so she decided to go to the nearby hospital. Unexpectedly, she ran into Frederick's mother there.

Laura Gonzalez saw the pretty girl and asked, "Why are you here alone? Do you have any family or friends with you?"

Charlotte shook her head and said, "I just have a cold and came to get checked."

Laura looked at Charlotte, thinking she was not only pretty but also gentle. It would be great if Frederick could get to know her. So, she took out her phone and called Frederick to come pick her up.

Soon, Frederick appeared in the hospital lobby. Seeing Charlotte sitting with his mother, his expression was complicated. Laura noticed and asked, "Frederick, do you know this young lady?"

Frederick replied indifferently, "We've met once."

Laura told her son, "This young lady helped me earlier. I didn't expect you to know her."

Then her eyes lit up. "Frederick, stay and keep this young lady company! She's sick and alone; she looks so pitiful."

Although Frederick was reluctant, he nodded in agreement. Charlotte didn't even have time to refuse.

He first sent his mother to the car, then came back to accompany Charlotte to the infusion room.

Charlotte sat in the infusion room, lost in thought.

Frederick sat next to her and asked rather coldly, "How many more IV bags?"

Charlotte was surprised he actually came back. Not wanting to offend him, she answered softly, "Just one more."

Frederick didn't say anything. He admitted he liked Charlotte's body, especially her long, fair legs, which were quite tempting to caress. But that was it. He was interested in her body but didn't want to get involved in her life.

As the medication took effect, Charlotte gradually felt sleepy and slowly fell asleep. In her drowsiness, she seemed to hear Frederick talking to the nurse, and then a small blanket was placed over her.
