Chapter 6

Sofia's Point of View

I didn't know what was going on. Ethan was hugging me tightly, and I knew he was sniffing my neck. I didn't know what to do. Even though I was confused, it didn't change how good it felt with him holding me. I could even feel these pleasurable tingles going through my body, and I was sure it was because of him. It was weird because I had never felt anything like it.

"It's you. I can't believe it's you. You have no idea how happy I am that it's you," Ethan said as he looked at me with a smile on his face, confusing me more.

"Um, what are you talking about?" I asked, and Ethan's smile turned into a frown. I looked around to see everyone was staring at us. Eric walked over to where Ethan and I were standing and placed his hand on Ethan's shoulder.

"I need to speak to you in my office, Ethan," Eric said, and he looked at his dad.

"Okay," Ethan said, and then he looked at me. "I will be back," Ethan said, and then he walked away with Eric. Everyone was still looking at me with shocked expressions on their faces.

"Okay, everyone, mind your business. Go back to what you were doing," Tammie said. Everyone stopped and quickly listened to Tammie, making me feel relief. I didn't like everyone looking at me.

"Are you okay, Sofia? Would you like to go for a walk around?" Ella asked

"Yeah, I could use some fresh air," I said and went outside. I didn't miss some of the people staring at me as we left the house.

"Are you okay," Ella asked again as we walked around outside.

"Yeah, I guess. I am a bit confused. Ethan was acting weird. Why would he hug me like that, and what was he talking about?" I asked, and Ella stayed silent. I looked at her and could tell she was hiding something. I stopped walking, and so did she.

"Ella, I know you are hiding something from me. Why is your brother acting strange? Why did you say you knew something when he hugged me?" I asked.

"Look, Sof, You are right. I do know something, but it is not my place to tell you. Ethan has to be the one to tell you what's going on," Ella said, and I sighed. I knew Ella wouldn't keep something from me if she didn't have a good reason.

"Fine, but he better tell me soon," I said

"He will trust me, and if he doesn't, I will tell you," Ella said

"Okay," I replied. I would let it go for now, but if Ethan didn't give me answers soon, I would make sure Ella told me everything. Ella and I walked around for a little while longer and then headed back inside. Everyone's eyes were on me when we walked into the room where the party was being held.

Ethan and Eric were back in the room, standing by the cake. Eric had his arms wrapped around Tammie's waist as they talked. Ethan seemed to be looking for someone, and when his eyes connected with mine, a smile came on his face, which made my heart flutter.

"Good, you two are back right in time. It's time to sing Happy Birthday," Tammie said. "Okay, everyone, we are going to sing Happy Birthday," Tammie said loud enough so everyone could hear. There were two birthday cakes. Ethan's had pictures of him on it. They started when he was a baby and continue to this day. Ella's cake had pictures of her on it as well. Eric lit the candles on Ella's while Tammie lit the candles on Ethan's. Once they were done, everyone started to sing.

"Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you, Ethan and Ella. Happy Birthday to you, too."

"Make a wish," Tammie said. Ethan looked at me and smiled before he blew out his candles. It made me wonder if his wish had something to do with me. Everyone clapped once Ethan and Ella were done blowing out their candles.

"Okay, everyone. Now it's time for cake," Tammie said, and everyone got in line to get a piece. I waited for everyone to get a piece of cake before I got one.

"Hey," Ethan said as he walked over to me.

"Um, Hi," I replied, shocked he was talking to me

"Here, I got you a piece of cake before it was all gone," Ethan said as he handed me a plate with cake on it.

"Oh, thank you," I said as I took the plate from him.

"I know chocolate is your favorite," Ethan said.

"Yeah, I am shocked you remember," I said

"I remember everything about you," Ethan said, causing me to look at him. He was staring at me as if he were looking into my soul. I couldn't take my eyes off of him, and it seemed he couldn't stop looking into my eyes either. It was like we were in a trance, and no one else existed but the two of us.

"Happy Birthday, Baby," Jane said as she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on his lips. Jane's actions broke me out of the trance I was in. I quickly walked away from them and out of the room. I decided to go outside again to get some air. I sat on the steps and sighed. I hated how I felt seeing Jane and Ethan together. I had no right to feel sad because he wasn't mine. Ethan would never be mine.
