Chapter 2
Serafina's POV
I felt my knees weaken. My strength slowly left my body, and when I was about to fall on the floor, someone held me upon turning my head. I saw my father looking at me with his eyes filled with worry.
"Are you okay, Serafina?" he asked, and upon hearing that question, my tears started to fall even more.
"Take me out of this place, Father. I don't want to be here," I pleaded, filled with desperation, but instead of listening to my pleas, he held my arms tightly and looked at me, filled with rage.
"You have no idea what you are talking about, Serafina." he firmly uttered before he shifted his gaze to King Calixto.
"I need to talk to my daughter, King Calixto. Please excuse us,"
King Calixto glanced at me before he looked at my father again. "You may leave," he responded, permitting us to leave the room.
My father immediately dragged me out of the room and did not even notice that he was hurting me.
"Dad, please," I kept on begging, but he continued dragging me away.
I have no idea where we are going. We kept walking in the hallway until we stopped at a corner where no one passed. My father looked around as if checking if someone would hear us, and when the hallway was clear, he looked at me intently.
He looks mad, and how he looks at me tells me I committed a mistake again.
"Are you out of your mind, Serafina? Why did say that in front of King Calixto? Do you know what I have been through so you can be betrothed to King Calixto? I have defeated five Alpha's. I risked my life for you to be in this position, and now you want to run away? Can you hear yourself? What about our pack that believes in you? All your life, we have been preparing you to be the perfect wife for King Calixto, and now you wanted to throw everything away?"
"You never told me my life would be at risk once I entered the palace. I have not been here for an hour, and I almost died. What more if I stayed here longer?"
I can hear the desperation in my tone and pitied myself, but my father feels the opposite. Instead of pitying me, I saw him become even more mad at me. He looks displeased, and I can tell that he is on the verge of hurting me, but he is just stopping himself.
"You will be fine, Serafina." He held my shoulders and looked at me directly in the eyes. "You just have to be brave,"
I shook my head, completely losing it. "I cannot do this, Father. I cannot do this, please,"
I held my father's hand tightly and slowly kneeled on the floor. "Please. Let's leave this place. Let's go home,"
I don't care if I need to kneel until midnight as long as I will leave this place. I am willing to do everything to be out of this place.
"Let me go with you. Let's go home-"
My words were cut off when my father's palm landed on my right cheek. My head turned to the other side, and I felt like I had lost my sense of hearing.
I held my cheeks, still feeling the sting of my father's slap.
"This is your home now, Serafina. Whether you like it or not, you will stay here until your last breath. You will spend the rest of your life in this palace, do you understand?"
I want to disappear. Seeing the eagerness in my father's face to make me stay in this place made me lose all my hope. I feel helpless, and during this time, only my mother can make me feel better. I hope she is here to comfort me like she always does whenever everything gets heavy.
"Fix yourself. You look too weak."
Tears continuously fell from my eyes, and it pissed my father off, so he kneeled in front of me and harshly grabbed my face wiping the tears away. "Stop acting like a kid, Serafina, and just do what I say. Stay in this palace and be the perfect bride to King Calixto. Try to disobey me, and you won't see me and your mother again. I will disown you and throw you out of our pack. You will be a rouge if you continue acting like this,"
I bit my lower lip to suppress my sob. Everything he said scared my entire being. It brought me unimaginable fear that I have to tame.
"I will give you a few minutes to fix yourself,"
After saying those, he disappeared from my sight, leaving me alone in this dark corner.
I took a few deep breaths and held my chest as I tried to calm myself. I kept on wiping the tears from my eyes until they stopped falling.
After a while, I finally regained the perfection I had practiced my entire life.
"You will be fine, Serafina. You will get through this for your family...for your pack. You have to survive,"
After a few minutes, my father came back just like he promised. I gave him an apologetic smile and gently bowed my head. "I am sorry for how I acted earlier, Father. I won't do it again,"
I saw him smile and look at me proudly. "Finally, my daughter is back," he sweetly uttered as he walked towards me and hugged me.
"I won't let anything happen to you, Serafina. You don't have to be scared. Nothing will happen to you. Keep that in mind,"
I nodded and smiled, putting all my trust in my father's words. I hope he is right that nothing will happen to me inside this palace.
"Your Majesty is waiting for us. Let's go,"
I clung to my father's arm and let him guide me back to my room. Upon stepping inside, I saw King Calixto and the palace guard inspecting every corner.
When King Calixto noticed our presence, he turned around and looked at me from head to toe. I held my father's arm tightly because his appearance made my knees shake.
When he finally shifted his gaze to my father, I felt like something heavy was lifted from my chest.
"We are still investigating who is behind the incident, Alpha Sebastian, but don't worry, I won't let this happen again. I won't let Serafina's life be put in danger again. I will protect her myself so you can leave her here without any worry,"
My father politely bowed his head and smiled at King Calixto.
"Thank you, King Calixto. I can finally leave with ease," he respectfully uttered before he turned his gaze on me. "We will write you a letter, Serafiana, and once your mother feels better, we will visit you," he kissed my forehead and looked at me with his eyes filled with gentleness. "Don't be scared, Serafina. King Calixto is here to protect you,"
My father slowly removed my hand from his arm, but I held him even tighter, making it hard for him to separate from me totally, and when he successfully did, he stepped back and bowed at King Calixto again.
"I have to go, King Calixto. My Luna and my pack are waiting for me," he politely uttered before looking at me again and giving me an assuring smile.
Tears fell from my eyes when my father started walking away. I wanted to go with him, but I felt my feet glued to the floor. When he was out of sight, I became even more scared, completely losing the perfect facade I had been practicing.
"Do you want to go with your father Serafina?" King Calixto coldly asked, so I immediately wiped my tears and flashed a sweet smile before facing him.
"No King Calixto,"
Lie.
That was a lie because I knew I was close and ran out of the room to chase my father. I want to leave this palace but can't say what I want. I have no freedom to speak my truth because once I do, I will lose everything...my family...my pack.
"Where is Cressida?" I asked, trying to change the topic. I also want to know where Cressida is because she was no longer there when we returned.
"She was taken to the guards for further questioning. She might be part of this-"
I firmly shook my head. "She was innocent, King Calixto. She did not do anything wrong. All she did was help me, and I know she has no intention of hurting me,"
His lips rose for a smirk as he listened to what I said. He took a step forward and closed the gap between us. He bent down, and my breathing stopped when our faces were only a few inches away. I thought he would kiss me, but he whispered something in my ear instead.
"If you want to survive in this palace, Serafina, you must remember one thing," he looked me directly in the eyes, and his blazing red eyes made me weak once again, "do not trust anyone,"
My forehead creased, and I looked at him with confusion. "Even you?"
He nodded his head and held my face, gently caressing it. "Especially me, my Luna,"
