Chapter 2 Canceling the Engagement
Cleveland Clinic.
By the time Victoria got there, Clara had already had her stomach pumped and was being wheeled into a ward.
As Victoria neared the ward, she overheard the conversation inside.
"Doctor, how's my daughter? Is she in danger?" Elodie asked, her voice shaking.
"My granddaughter's been frail and sickly since she was little, and her heat has a problem. Will this have any lasting effects?" Oliver added, worried.
The doctor paused for a moment. A Heart problem?
Without much thought, he replied, "Don't worry, you got her here in time. She's fine now. Just have her eat lightly for the next couple of days, and she can go home after some rest."
Everyone let out a sigh of relief.
Elodie turned and saw Victoria at the door, suspicion written all over her face. "What are you doing here? To harm your sister again?"
Victoria rolled her eyes. Did Elodie think she got too much free time?
Clara's self-made drama was more than enough without her help.
"What are you doing here? Get out! You make your sister feel sick!" Simon shouted angrily.
Victoria raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms.
If she didn't say something, it would seem like she was letting them off too easily for their insults.
"What am I doing here?" she sneered. "Of course, I'm here to see if my dear sister is dead yet."
"Victoria!" a deep, cold male voice rang out as soon as she finished speaking.
Lucas, dressed in a custom-made suit, stood tall and imposing by Clara's bedside, like a knight silently guarding his princess.
No, he actually was.
God had not only blessed him a good family but also a handsome face, with well-defined features, a high nose bridge, thick eyebrows, and big eyes, exuding nobility and elegance.
No wonder Clara had fallen for him.
Lucas walked to the door, grabbed Victoria's hand, and pulled her out of the room.
When she came to her senses and shook off his hands, Lucas's icy voice rang out again, "Victoria, she is your sister!"
Victoria sneered, "Sister?"
Lucas met her gaze and was momentarily stunned by the cold light in her eyes.
She was like a snow lotus blooming on a mountain, cold and aloof. Her face, now even more chilling due to her anger, looked incredibly alluring.
Lucas had always known that Victoria was very beautiful, even more so than Clara. But she was too strong-willed, too aloof.
Victoria's cold voice continued, "Have you ever seen a sister who fights to be the mistress of her own younger sister's fiancé? I can't bring myself to acknowledge her as my sister!"
"Victoria, your sister and I are truly in love..." Lucas began.
Victoria cut him off, "Stop. Don't tell me that. I don't care if your love is genuine."
Lucas thought she would be hurt by his words and said, "Fine, I will drop it. But our engagement must be canceled."
"And if I don't agree?" Victoria retorted.
Lucas didn't want to hurt Victoria. He had always seen her as a sister; his love had always been for Clara.
"Victoria, I..."
Before he could finish, Victoria interrupted him again, "If you want me to agree, then have Clara kneel and apologize to me. Then I'll let you two sneaking lovers get your wish."
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw Lucas's handsome face turn extremely ghastly, and his gaze towards her grew cold.
He then raised his voice and said to her, "Victoria, you're the one who did wrong, not Clara! It's bad enough that you didn't apologize to her, but you want her to kneel down to apologize to you. You are simply unreasonable!
"From childhood to now, she's always been pleading for you, protecting you. And what about you? You nearly got her killed, even having a man try to rape her. Have you no shame? Are you even human?
"Even in her suicide note this time, she asked us not to blame you, saying it had nothing to do with you. And what about you? What are you doing? I don't see any remorse from you. I'm so disappointed in you!"
Victoria sneered inwardly. Mentioning her in the suicide note, huh? That was Clara's usual tactic, pretending to be weak and kind.
Victoria ignored his words, not getting angry, and lazily said, "What? No? Then forget it. After all, I'm not the one who seek for death."
She was truly immune to these words.
Lucas, seeing her still unrepentant attitude, was very angry, feeling the urge to punch a pillow.
"Since when you became so cold?"
