Chapter 5

Ron Pov.

Amanda…If I started talking about her I would fill pages and pages of books, and most likely several volumes. Amanda is a special person to me and has a special place in my heart.

What the hell am I talking about?! My heart belongs to her completely and…I know how wrong it is to have such feelings for her. I don't even know when the way I look at her changed and she isn't even aware of it. I'm sure that if she knew what kind of thoughts I have with her, she wouldn't want to see me again in her life. That is precisely why I chose to watch her from the shadows and love her from the shadows. That's what's best for our friendship.

Now, for example, I'm watching her through the window having a rather heated conversation with that little lover of hers. Honestly, all I want now, and what would give me great satisfaction, is to go to him and bang his head against the walls until he can't see. But I know that after that Amanda wouldn't talk to me again, so I choose to watch from the shadows one more time and act in secret.

I don't know what she was thinking when she chose to be in a relationship with him. But...I think she didn't think at all. She probably felt like a freak because she was the only one in college who didn't have a boyfriend, so she chose to date this idiot.

-You know...If you don't do anything, someone else will appear who will turn her back, and you will be forgotten. Amanda's mother says coming next to me and looking out the window at her daughter.

-I do not know what are you talking about. I say simply without betraying any emotion.

She laughs and turns to me looking at me as if with authority.

-Ron…Don't try to trick me. I saw the way you look at her. You can't look at her like that and then tell me you don't feel anything for her.

-It wouldn't be fair to our friendship. And she...doesn't perceive me as anything else.

-You won't know if you don't try. Look what it is, Ron. I'm leaving again tomorrow and I know I can leave because she's in good hands with you, but I still want you to promise me something.

-What?

-I want you to promise me that my daughter will not suffer from anything and that you will take care of her no matter what.

-I promise.

There is no need to promise anyone such things because I will never let Amanda suffer.

-Ok...And I want you to think about what I told you. Josh doesn't deserve Amanda, but maybe that was your luck. What will you do when someone who deserves it comes along? You have one more chance at her heart. Don't lose it. Amanda's mother says full of love for her daughter, then leaves for her bedroom.

I stay in the same place and look at Amanda lost in thought. That is until I see that idiot snap at her.

Oh no...You just signed your death warrant, kid.

I get out immediately and in a second I find myself grabbing Josh by the collar bringing him so close to me I feel like he's become smaller than he is.

-How the hell did you think to snap at her knowing I might be around? I say, growling at him.

-Ron, it's ok. I'm fine. Amanda says trying to calm the waters but all she does is make me angrier.

Does she really not think? She should be furious that her boyfriend, as she considers him, treats her so rudely.

-You'd better run, boy, while you're still whole. And never see your face here again. I say, then push him.

Human flow…

-You could have behaved more normally. Amanda says with a sigh and I nervously turn to her.

-If you think I will allow someone to treat you like this, it means you don't know me at all.

-And I don't want you to get into trouble for me.

Well…damn. I didn't expect this line and as far as I can tell she didn't expect to say it either because she starts to sneer and then walks into the house without saying anything. It's her way of putting distance when she feels like a line set by her is being crossed.

I sigh suddenly feeling tired and follow her into the house. When I get to the house, I don't see her anywhere.

-Where is she? I ask her mother who is in the kitchen washing the plates we ate from.

-She said she was preparing for classes. She said gesturing her head towards Amanda's room.

Ok...I'll wait until it comes out then. She just doesn't think she's done talking to me, does she? I want to know why she feels she doesn't deserve more from the person next to her.

Amanda's mom is watching me out of the corner of her eye to see what I'm doing, but I don't feel intimidated at all. After all, her mother wants me and Amanda to be together. I have nothing to hide right now.

After what seems like an eternity, Amanda comes out of her room and like every time I see her she manages to take my breath away. She is dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and a black skirt that I personally think is way too short, but I have never imposed a certain dress code on her even though I "raised" her from the age of fifteen, I would could say.

  • I'm leaving soon otherwise I'll be late. She said placing her bag on her shoulder.

  • I'll take you. I say quickly and manage to see her mother smile.

Amanda nods and after greeting her mother follows me outside.

It's a good thing that some nights Amanda agrees to let me stay at her place for the night since my house is on the other side of town. It's good that I have such opportunities, like driving her to classes, which I like because I can spend more time with her.
