Chapter 5 She's Married

Standing behind Elizabeth, who else could it be aside from Alexander?

Alexander looked at Elizabeth with a faint smile, his deep, mellow voice soothing to the ears filled the air as he spoke, "My mom needs rest for her illness. Is there anything you can't come to me for? Why do you have to bother my mom?"

Elizabeth was shocked.

Alexander pulled her out without giving her a chance to resist.

"Alexander, make sure to discuss the marriage properly with Elizabeth. Don't let her suffer any grievances," Esme called out from behind.

"Don't worry, Mom," Alexander replied as he closed the door to the hospital room.

Elizabeth was dragged a long way by Alexander.

At the end of the corridor, his gentle face had been replaced by a cold, harsh expression.

Alexander grabbed Elizabeth by the neck and pressed her against the wall, his gaze as sharp as a cold sword. "Elizabeth! You've tested my patience time and again, and now you dare to come to my mother? You're too bold! If anything happens to my mother, I will let you experience what it feels like to live a life worse than death!" he threatened.

Elizabeth's face turned red from being choked, and she struggled to say, "I... didn't know Esme was your mother."

She finally understood why Alexander despised her so much yet insisted on marrying her. In prison, Esme had told her that once she was released, she would become her son's wife.

At the time, Elizabeth thought Esme was joking.

It turned out Esme was serious all this time.

Alexander tightened his grip as he accused, "Do you think I would believe you? You're playing hard to get, trying to increase your stakes, or maybe you just want to become a lady of the Windsor family?"

Elizabeth didn't want to argue anymore and simply closed her eyes.

Let him strangle her to death; that way, she could be with her baby forever and reunite with her mother.

How wonderful!

Tears streamed down her face.

Alexander let go, regaining his composure.

His tone was cold and domineering as he spoke, "My mother has only two months to live. I must fulfill her wish by marrying you, but I won't have any sexual relations with you! After two months has passed, I'll divorce you and compensate you with a substantial amount of money. I warn you not to play any tricks! Or I'll make you wish you were dead!"

Elizabeth was stunned and thought, 'Esme only has two months to live?'

Elizabeth felt a deep sorrow wash over her.

She took deep breaths of fresh air to compose herself. After a while, she calmly asked, "You want to make a fake marriage deal with me?"

"Do you really want to be my wife?" Alexander retorted as he looked at her with disgust.

Elizabeth immediately thought of that day in the bathroom when Alexander saw her body, covered in the kiss marks of a dead man.

Naturally, he found her dirty.

Elizabeth bit her lip and said, "I'm willing to make a deal, but I have one condition."

"Speak!" Alexander said impatiently.

Elizabeth suggested, "Arrange a newresidency for me, any city will do."

If she took her child back to her hometown, the villagers would look down on a child without a father.

She didn't want her child to face discrimination in the future.

She wanted to take her child far away.

Alexander looked at her in disbelief. "Is that all?" he asked.

Elizabeth steeled herself and added, "I need thirty thousand dollars now as my pocket money."

Thirty thousand dollars would allow her to get a prenatal checkup, cover all her pregnancy expenses, and visit her mother's grave back home.

Alexander sneered inwardly, thinking, Elizabeth was indeed a greedy woman.

He had already said he would give her a divorce settlement, yet she still asked for thirty thousand dollars in pocket money.

If he gave her thirty thousand dollars today, would she ask for fifty thousand dollars tomorrow?

If something didn't go her way, would she disappear and blackmail him for more money?

Elizabeth was insatiable and despicable!

Over the years, Alexander had eliminated many people who got in his way. He wouldn't mind killing Elizabeth too.

But his mother condition didn't allow for matters t be postponed any longer.

Alexander took out his phone and made a call. Five minutes later, his assistant Gavin came over with an envelope.

Taking the envelope, he pulled out five thousand dollars and handed it to Elizabeth, looking condescendingly at her as he said, "You can have thirty thousand dollars, but in installments. The first installment is five thousand dollars. If you behave well in front of my mother, I'll give you more pocket money gradually."

Five thousand dollars?

She needed to get a prenatal checkup, rent a new place, and go for job interviews. How could five thousand dollars be enough?

Elizabeth insisted, "Ten thousand dollars! No less."

"Two thousand dollars!" Alexander's tone was as cold as ice.

"Five thousand dollars, I'll take five thousand dollars," Elizabeth quickly changed her demand.

Alexander replied, "One thousand dollars!"

Elizabeth bit her lip hard to keep herself from crying. She realized that as long as she haggled, Alexander would keep lowering the amount.

One thousand dollars, at least, would allow her to get a prenatal checkup.

"One thousand dollars," Elizabeth said as she swallowed her pride and reached out to take the money.

The money was thrown to the ground by Alexander.

Alexander looked down at her, and reminded, "As long as you play your role well. I'll draft a two-month marriage contract for you. When the contract expires, you'll get your full compensation. As for pocket money, you have to earn it with good behavior!"

Elizabeth was busy picking up the money and didn't hear what Alexander said.

One thousand dollars was important enough for her to cast aside her pride. At least it was better than accepting charity from the Guise family.

"What did you say?" After picking up the money, Elizabeth looked up and asked Alexander.

Elizabeth was so despicable!

Alexander glared at her as he warned, "Come with me! Remember to play your role well! If you say the wrong thing..."

"I won't say the wrong thing," Elizabeth said calmly.

It wasn't that she wanted to cooperate with Alexander, but she genuinely cared for Esme.

In prison, she and Esme were like mother and daughter.

Now, Esme was nearing the end of her life. Even if Alexander didn't make this deal with her, she would still fulfill her part.

Elizabeth and Alexander went back inside together. Elizabeth smiled as she spoke, "Aunt Esme, Alexander and I were just discussing the wedding outside. You won't blame me for not keeping you company, do you?"

"Silly girl. I'm just hoping you two get married soon so I can be at ease," Esme said, pulling Elizabeth closer. She whispered, "Elizabeth, are you satisfied with Alexander?"

Elizabeth blushed and smiled. She responded shyly, "Yeah."

Esme urged excitedly, "Can you and Alexander register the marriage now? I want you to call me Mom as soon as possible."

Elizabeth gently held Esme's hand and replied, "As you wish, Aunt Esme."

That afternoon, Elizabeth and Alexander went to the City Hall.

Elizabeth and Alexander took a photo together, pressed their fingerprints onto the certificates, and signed. Even when the marriage registration was completed and stamped, Elizabeth still couldn't believe it was all real.

She was married.
