Chapter 10- My main character, his smell grows in my free heart.

Jade's Room

Jade sleeps next to Everth and looks out the window; the breeze moves the white curtains, and a soft light escapes, revealing the first glimpses that illuminate the interior of the room. The sound of the waves remains as a gentle sigh, and the earth and sea salt envelop the bathroom rug and Jade’s slippers. She has become accustomed to living with beach sand, as no matter how much she cleans the bedroom or tries to make things gt clearly into her mind. Jade closes her eyes, and the green of her iris merges into a faint turquoise spark.

But there is a guy, and Jade can't forget about her.

Cris's Room

Cris opens the door, pauses for a second to watch Samantha with her 29 years old of beauty, sleeping, and then lies down beside her. He looks at the ceiling of her room, which is painted a deep turquoise, a color André chose because it reminds him of the ocean at dawn for some reason. André has always wanted to live near the sea.

Samantha opens her eyes and still a bit groggy manages to say a few words.

— "How was the game?" she comments with a smile.

— "A tie. The referee, as always, preferred Neymar and they got a penalty," he says a little disappointed.

— "You didn't bet again, did you?" she teases him, chuckling a bit.

— "No, my love. Sleep, everything is fine," he says confidently.

Samantha smiles, calms down, and closes her eyes again.

— "Oh, I forgot to tell you! This morning some beer bottles broke while you were unloading... We lost them, but we'll get them back soon, baby," he says assuredly.

— "Beer?" she says, a bit surprised.

— "Yes, beautiful baby," he replies calmly.

Cris takes out a rose he had hidden in his jacket and kisses Samantha's forehead.

— "Happy birthday, princess! You're 29 now," he comments mischievously.

— "Don't remind me. Come on, I’m officially 25," she says, staring at him while rebutting.

— "Love, princess, I want to spend the whole day with you. We're going for lunch, and in the evening I’ll take you to the beach," he whispers flirtatiously in her ear.

Samantha sits up in bed, wearing a black baby doll; a piece of silk and lace wraps around her bust and hips. Her fair skin contrasts beautifully with her black pajamas. She just kow that Criss was hidding something, but has no idea was actually a new girl into his life, the smile of Jade shining into his memory

— "To the beach? Have you gone mad? I have a photo shoot tomorrow, and I can't go back from the beach; it's for a facial cream catalog," she indignantly informs him.

— "Hey beautiful, but I invited friends and family to celebrate with your people," he says, taking her hand.

— "With my people?" she replies, incredulously.

— "Yes, love, your mom is coming from Punta del Este; she wants to see you," he tries to take her hand again, but Samantha angrily exclaims...

— "Today? My mom is coming today? No Cristian, I already had plans today with my friends. The girls are making me a cake, and I don’t want to go to the beach! You know I don’t like the beach! The sand bothers me, and the sun makes my skin itch," she says, getting more upset.

In that moment Samantha gets up, puts on a sweater, and with an annoyed gesture, leaves the room, flailing her arms.

A bill flutters from side to side thanks to the wind. The breeze is icy, and the asphalt is wet. In the distance, a car can be seen parked by the roadside next to some tall trees.

An imminent silence fills the atmosphere, and Cris is freezing. He trembles uncontrollably, so he closes the car door. There, he tries to warm himself until the bill from the previous scene hits the windshield. Jaime parks the car as the bill clings to the windshield. It's an event for tourists organized on a beach about 16 km down the mountain. Cris sighs; it’s the beach he wanted to take Samantha to for her birthday. He enters the car, and the frigid breeze hits the vehicle. He tries to start the car, but it won’t turn on.

A car approaches quickly; one of its front headlights is off, and the driver holds a bottle in one hand and the steering wheel with the other. Cris watches as the light from the vehicle approaches rapidly, and there’s an impact that shatters the glass. Cris throws himself onto the passenger seat to protect his body and covers his face.

Cris slowly opens his eyes and realizes he has changed locations. He sits up, attracted partly by the sound of a heart monitor and the smell of sea salt coming through the window. He sees a woman lying on a stretcher and places his fingers on the glass. Cris notices that the bill from earlier appears again in his head before he lost consciousness, and suddenly he feels a terrible cramp in his arm. He closes his eyes to concentrate on stopping the pain.

Everth Room

Everth wakes up in his room to the sound of water dripping from a faucet.

Inside the San Juan Bautista Clinic, Jade walks towards Mrs. Estela's room. Jade feels a sense of déjà vu when she sees her grandmother through the glass of the hallway. When She looks in the window... she feels a sense of familiar smell... or maybe a smell She didn't know She likes until now. But definitly makes her think about Criss

Once inside the room, the two engage in a conversation that reveals aspects of Jade's personality; she is sweet, tender, and selfless. There’s also Estela's mischievousness and the relationship between them. Her grandmother is concerned about her work and braids her hair.

  • Come my little flower - Ask her grandma.

She picks flowers from a pot with tall sunflowers growing by the window and kisses her granddaughter's forehead. Then She allows her grandma starts to make an greek braid in Jade's hair.

Additionally, Jade wraps her in a lie to avoid revealing the truth about the debts owed to the clinic. Or the work problem that Everth has, which now has them in debt to Iván, who paid the bail. She remains silent, her green eyes filled with secrets as she helps her get off the bed to stretch her legs.

Meanwhile. At the bakery "EN PUNTO," there are food stalls on the terrace. Everth is sitting at a food stall, watching the people with maximum concentration. His best friend Iván suddenly arrives and they engage in a discussion about plans to make more money by accepting an offer they’ve been tasked with. Everth’s personality is revealed as he is very ambitious, in addition to his sense of humor; he jokes about Iván's new girlfriend, who is a soldier.

The contrast of his relationship with Jade, with whom Everth has now broken up, makes him adopt a serious demeanor when Iván asks about her. Everth’s best friend, Iván, works part-time conducting research and expeditions in the jungle. In the end, they notice a small spider on an old vase on the bakery table. Iván studies the spider with curiosity.

When Everth is about to kill it, Iván stops him, warning that if he does, he could bring upon himself some kind of curse, as spiders are sacred animals in the Asian pantheon.

In the town’s cathedral, just before dusk, Everth lights a cigarette. A song plays as the breeze moves the trees and the smoke from the cigarette drifts from his lips. Soon, before night falls, Everth checks the mailbox of the building across from the cathedral. He carefully inspects the letterheads on the envelopes to speed up the process of searching through the lobby’s mailboxes. He finds one addressed to Jade.

A middle-aged woman rushes out of the building; she is wearing a long skirt and a sleeveless blouse. The woman passes by him without looking around, but Everth startles. He hides the envelope inside his jacket.

Everth enters and approaches the mailboxes until he reaches one that he can't use because it's overflowing with correspondence. The young man finishes organizing the rest of the papers and prepares to go up the stairs to the apartment he shares with Jade and Iván.

There is no security in the residence: there is no doorman or cameras in the hallways. Everth also takes the mail from another apartment. Furthermore, when he checks his cell phone, he realizes that it has run out of battery.

Everth arrives at the floor of a neighbor from whom he took mail. When he finds apartment 45, he gets ready to slip the envelope through the lower slot of the door. However, before he starts to insert it, he slides in another item from his jacket hidden in a plastic bag.
