Chapter 5

Arrgh… Nadine felt a splitting headache as a searing pain jolted her from her deep slumber.

"Young miss..." Nadine heard the familiar voice, a gentle touch on her forehead.

"Help me up, please," she murmured with her eyes closed. Little did she know, she hadn't spoken those words; instead, she merely gestured toward the person.

Slowly and gently, Nadine was carefully assisted to sit up on the bed. Opening her eyes, she was surprised to see Basil.

"Basil… What are you doing here?"

"And where are we? Didn't I instruct you to follow the remaining tribe members?" Nadine trailed off before glancing around to orient herself.

Blue walls, blue ceiling, blue sofa, blue bed sheets — everything shimmered in blue, leaving her wondering where she was, as neither her familiar surroundings nor her room contained such hues.

"Miss, you must be wondering where we are, right?"

"Even I don't know, but I found you sleeping soundly on a peculiar man's chest, so I felt compelled to follow him, despite the challenge," Basil explained lightly.

Nadine was momentarily lost as she tried to recall what had transpired, fortunately piecing it together within moments.

"Was he dressed all in black?" Nadine inquired, attempting to identify the person.

"Yes, Miss. Do you know that strange individual?" Basil asked, rolling his eyes.

"Why can't I recall following him after the incident?" Nadine mumbled to herself, dodging Basil's question.

"He knocked you out, Miss," Basil responded candidly.

"How dare that scoundrel knock me out?"

"I'm afraid he might be planning to take advantage of you, Miss. Let's leave here as quickly as possible!" Basil urged a hint of anxiety in his voice.

"Do you think it'll be easy to escape from a stranger's house? I'm certain the mansion must be vast if they allocated this room to us," Nadine suggested, dropping her idea.

Basil was about to reply when a knock echoed from outside.

"Go get the door, Basil," Nadine directed, glancing toward its direction.

"Miss, he's with the person who abducted you," Basil responded coldly the moment she saw Alex standing there as the door opened.

"Let him inside," Nadine said, completely disregarding her personal maid's feelings.

"But, Miss… I don't think it's wise to let him in, Miss," Basil persisted.

"Do as I said, Basil, let him inside!" Nadine asserted firmly.

"Okay, Miss," Basil reluctantly complied, feeling compelled to obey her wishes.

"Master is waiting for you downstairs," Alex stated emotionlessly.

Nadine seemed curious and eager at the mention of the master as if meeting an old friend.

"All right, tell him to wait for me. I'll join shortly," Nadine stated confidently.

Alex's expression was priceless, unable to believe the audacious response from this lady, seemingly the first to stand her ground without flinching.

"Is there something else you wish to say? Or do you plan to watch me dress up?" Nadine intentionally teased Alex, putting him on edge.

"Oh, no, I'll take my leave now," Alex said before exiting the room.

"Prepare my bath, Basil."

"Miss, let's pass through the open passage. I can still remember it; it's where we went on the first day," Basil said, leading the way. Luckily, they found themselves in the sitting room but were stopped by the guards stationed there.

"Which one of you is Nadine?"

"Is there something wrong?"

"You can follow us, but your maid must stay back and wait for you," one of the guards stated.

"How dare you! I am Miss Nadine's maid and I have to be with her every minute!" Basil yelled, attempting to forcefully follow Nadine.

"You can wait for me; I'll be back shortly," Nadine uttered coldly, devoid of emotions on her face.

"But Miss, are you sure you'll be okay?" Basil asked.

"Yes, I will," Nadine said before following the guards.

Descending through the staircase, Nadine's gaze scanned the enormous dining room. The opulence of the place made her gasp momentarily until her eyes landed on him, the sole figure among everyone seated at the dining table.

Her reaction lasted only a moment as her expression turned instantly cold. Without waiting, Nadine proceeded straight to the dining table, pulling out a chair for herself across from him.

"Serve my food. Why am I here?" Nadine said confidently, without glancing at the man seated across her.

The maids and guards were so shocked that they exchanged glances among themselves before serving the food without a word from their master.

The atmosphere around the ten-foot-long table was tense as the two people sat at opposite ends.

'Thud'

The loud sound of something hitting the dining table caught Nadine's attention. She knew how scary and ruthless the man across from her could be, but she had made up her mind not to be intimidated by his strange aura. Though scared, she wanted to prove herself as not an easy target.

Nadine looked up, meeting his gaze briefly before sitting upright, dropping her cutlery with her hands folded against her chest.

"Can't I have breakfast in peace, Mr. kidnapper?"

"Why do you think I bothered to come downstairs? To stare at you? I'm sorry, but you're wrong!" Nadine said boldly.

She would be lying if she said she wasn't scared.

Nadine reached for her spoon to eat but found it on the floor. Without anyone saying a word, she knew it was done by him intentionally, which irritated her the most.

A cold light flashed across her eyes as her lips curled up. Almost immediately, she picked up a glass of watermelon juice placed in front of Diego.

Nadine smirked evilly before pouring the entire contents onto Diego, unflinchingly making her statement.

The watermelon juice dripped down from the man's head onto his face and soaked his expensive leather jacket.

"You seemed to be dozing off when I clearly said I'm here for my breakfast," Nadine said coldly, looking at the man, who seemed frozen in his seat.

Diego still wore a devilish smirk as he felt a wet sensation on his head. The juice dripped down his brown bangs before sliding along his face.

The temperature at the dining table suddenly dropped as the man emitted a dangerous aura.

Everywhere fell silent instantly as the maids and guards in the dining room exchanged unbelieving stares.

Nadine confidently returned to her seat, trying not to show fear in her expression, despite appearing apprehensive.

"How dare a nobody like you pour juice... argh!" One of the maids attempted to intervene, but Nadine swiftly hurled the empty glass cup towards her.

The maid narrowly dodged the glass, which smashed on the floor, splashing everywhere.

"You all should leave!" Diego coldly commanded, prompting the servants and guards to quickly retreat.

Diego finally stood up from the chair and walked closer to Nadine, who was already seated. He forcefully held her chin, feeling the soreness from his grip.

"How dare you, huh?" Diego's voice was low but filled with danger.

At that moment, all Diego could think about was teaching her a lesson she would never forget.
