Chapter 7

Their evening meeting ended with dinner and Katherine helped Elano with the purchase of a cell phone that could be used in their country.

"Since you don't intend to stay here forever, it's better to use a cell phone that can be recharged and timed. For example, you can buy a monthly or yearly plan so that later when you return to your city this thing will also no longer work because it has run out of time. Usually that would be cheaper than buying it forever but you can't use it anywhere else but here."

Elano looked at the cell phone which was more similar to a watch or wristwatch but if it was placed in the hand then it would match the shape of the skin and the color of the skin so it could be said that this thing would look transparent and only the screen would be visible.

"Once installed it can be used and you can't even take it off. The material is already waterproof and we've been making it better and better over the years so there's very little damage that can happen. That's why I told you that it's better to rent it for a few months or a year until you feel like you're done spending time here. After that, if you can come here again to return the unit and it will be rented out to people who have no intention of buying it." Katherine said as she placed a set on him.

She helped him choose which one was more suitable for him to use because as a businessman and a person with a wider phone coverage, of course the unit he used should be more complete because he should be able to use it to make calls between regions.

"This is suitable for you because you can make calls like a normal cell phone out of the region with 1000 devices. Aren't you already too unlimited? You can't possibly make one-on-one calls to your coworkers when you say you're a businessman, right? As far as I know weddings have a lot of employees and staff that can do that, you only need to call people who are important and related to you. 1000 people close to you isn't enough to complete it?"

Elano looked at his assistant who had nodded slowly.

"1000 people is already too many and it is more than enough for you. The hardship can be given to me and I will take care of some of my subordinates who are also unlikely to reach 1000 people. We only have a few closest people who will directly manage and take care of all our business if we want to do it remotely. 1000 devices will not be less, sir. That's more than enough for you," said his assistant making Elano nod.

"Then I will buy it for three people, I mean rent it because I also have no intention of staying here for too long. Moreover, after finishing the project I intend to return and I think in less than a year I will be able to do so."

Katherine nodded and helped him with the terms of the lease. After the installation and being taught how to use it, Katherine and Elano as well as the man's maid and personal assistant left the shop.

They were in a mall that was so sophisticated with systems that Elano sometimes couldn't understand. This place definitely deserved to be the most advanced city in their country because all the systems were far more advanced even than the capital.

They can see a lot of artificial intelligence that has been increasingly refined and is always trying to be used for positive things. The labor force was not reduced but it was clear that people's abilities were higher here than anywhere else.

"It must be very difficult to find people who are stupid or have below-average intelligence here," Elano said, making Katherine smile.

"Yes, that's true because in this city we are so ready to accept new technologies that we will control and try to get out more perfect and capable for people to use. We as experts and inventors have to have higher abilities than people, that's why we've been educated since we were little so that we don't spend any time playing while we're studying. Being an inventor and expert in our country is something to be very proud of but not everyone can so for people who have achievements and abilities for that are sometimes sent to places like this to be properly cultivated their abilities and creativity."

Elano nodded in agreement, he had often heard discussions about it on television. Smart people were no longer wasted like they used to be because they were treated and held like pearls. The striking and continuous changes in the climate and the state of the earth over the years have made it so that they can only survive by relying on their skills and intelligence.

That's why there are so many schools for science and technology scattered in this country, used as a selection system that will teach students who excel to become professors or not so that their earth can get better even though the chances are quite small.

"Actually this city is very beautiful to look at but during the day it can make the skin burn and even the bones melt because of the heat. You guys surviving all these years here is great."

Katherine smiled softly and looked up at the sky. Thankfully the night was a little cooler so they didn't have to torture themselves with hot nights like they often did. It was just that they had never encountered any real rain so the weather was dry and there was nothing beautiful to see in the morning.

"How long has it been since I've seen morning dew. Because from 6am all this cold will disappear and be replaced by sunlight. It's very tiring for us to deal with it but it's impossible to move because we feel comfortable in this place. The government won't allow us to leave either since the place is no longer there and is being vacated more and more just to find a rallying point that can be used for meetings and a better life."

Elano looked at Katherine's face who had just said all that. "A gathering point?"

Katherine nodded and then smiled softly. "Sounds a bit impossible, doesn't it? But it's what we hope to do and get a better life. We've planted trees many times but they can't survive so we've come up with an invention where we're trying to make the room resistant to the intense sunlight during the day and trying to find a device that can be used to provide a cold sensation in the room we use to grow the trees.

"This method does sound a little crazy but it works but we have to wait quite a while until the tree is ready to be moved to the ground because the medium is still not found. There's still a lot to do, I don't know how capable I am of dealing with this in the future. Hopefully I won't lose hope and can still do my best for the people. That's all I hope for, there's nothing else I ask for other than to be facilitated in everything."
