Chapter 7 Who is Your Teacher
'No freakin' way! How could the miracle doc be so young? She doesn't even look twenty,' James thought, feeling like a total idiot for his earlier thoughts.
"Who the hell are you? What makes you think you can operate on this patient? Where's his family? Did they even agree?" James's voice was sharp and cutting.
Adeline's eyebrows furrowed for a sec but then she chilled out. "I'm a doctor, and I got a medical license. If you're a doc too, you should know keeping things calm helps the patient. So, back off and give the kid some air."
Adeline's voice was cool and collected, and for a moment, James was kinda impressed by her professional vibe.
James snapped back, took a step forward, almost in Adeline's face, fists clenched, eyes full of challenge. "What kind of doc are you? What makes you think you can save this kid?"
James grabbed Adeline's wrist. "Wait for the ambulance! Got it?"
"You're so young; are you really reliable?" someone asked, worried.
"Yeah, let's wait for the ambulance. Don't screw up the boy," another dude chimed in.
Seeing this, James smirked, thinking he'd already won. "See, no one believes you. Just step aside and stop causing trouble."
Adeline knelt on one knee. "Wait for the ambulance? That's wasting precious time. Is that what your teacher taught you?"
"I didn't say only wait for the ambulance," James shot back, annoyed. "You're the one wasting time now. I'm not arguing with a fraud like you. Let me do CPR."
Hearing this, Adeline glanced at him, making James's spine tingle.
"He's got heatstroke. You wanna do CPR?" Adeline pressed the boy's fingers, her voice cold. "Quack."
James lost it. He'd just won an award and come back from abroad with Sara, and she dared to question his skills!
"Who you calling a quack? Do you know who my mentor is?"
"I don't care." Adeline pressed the boy's fingers, sterilized the needle, and got to work. "Move."
James's eyes were red with anger, but he still argued, "What you're doing is BS. His lips are purple, which means a heart problem."
She squatted down, ready to keep treating the boy with the needle. But James wouldn't quit. He reached out to stop Adeline, but she dodged him like a pro.
"What are you doing? Wanna fight?" Adeline's voice had a hint of anger. She'd never seen someone so stubborn.
James was intimidated by her gaze but still wouldn't back down. "I just don't want you to hurt this boy! I'm not arguing with a fraud like you! I'm Sara's student. I already said your witchcraft is BS. You haven't even diagnosed him right. You're not saving him; you're killing him."
Adeline's eyes were icy. "I said, move."
James couldn't stand her arrogant attitude. He snapped, "Fine, you say you can save people and got a medical license. Who's your teacher? Can you take responsibility for this treatment?"
