Chapter 3 He defends my enemy over me
"No !" I screamed at the top of my voice and pushed myself forward as I had done the previous day until I was at the platform.
"Seize her!" Noah ordered and immediately two strong looking men grabbed me. I tried to break free but they were too strong.
They pulled me forward and threw me on my knees in front of Noah and Laila.
"Mia, why do you keep making a fool of yourself?" Noah asked me, his eyes were blazing hot with anger at me. I have never seen him this angry at anyone.
"Because I need answers, Noah. What have I done to be treated like this?"
"You've been rejected."
"And I refuse to accept it!" I shouted back at him. He was beginning to ground his teeth together at me and the veins on his forehead were growing thicker. Everyone was again silent, I was provoking the Alpha.
"I see the lass is not only foolish but has no fear for her Alpha and leader of the Pack too." Laila cut in. Her voice was unbelievably smooth for someone who was so wicked. I was forced to look at her.
"My Lord, she must be punished. You mustn't allow a lowlife like her to do as she pleases."
Noah grunted his agreement. Laila slid her arms around his shoulders while he wrapped his arms around her waist just as he used to do to me. Noah pulled her closer and kissed her on the lips. She held his head and made the kiss last longer.
This was too much for me to bear and I leaped forward to claw at Laila's neck but I was held back so I fell to the ground. Laila's laughter was the last thing I heard before I was swallowed by darkness.
"Noah is gone, no one has seen him." It was Aeon who told me. He never really liked me and would not speak to me but this was different, we were all worried.
"What do you mean gone? How would you not have known? You're his Beta !" I screamed at him.
I had come by looking for him, he had promised to teach me a new sword trick.
"No, he can't be gone. Someone has to know something. He couldn't have just left. He always tells me his whereabouts." I said. It made no sense. I was already dashing out of the yard and headed towards the packing house.
"Come back, Mia. Where are you going?" He asked, chasing after me. I broke into a run, and I didn't stop until I was at the Pack house and still couldn't find him. My heart lurched in my chest, but I allowed myself to hope. Perhaps it was all a prank, but then everyone was talking about the disappearance of the Alpha's son. It was an expensive joke, only it wasn't a joke.
"Aeon, " I began.
"Tell me you know where he is. Please, tell me anything." My voice began to break as tears coursed down my cheek.
"I do not, Mia. I am looking for him too. No one knows where he went. He just left like that." Aeon said, his brows creased in worry.
"He could be in trouble. He could be hurt. We have to look for him." I knew I was babbling, but I was panicking by now.
"You know he is stronger than that. You wouldn't dare speak about an alpha in that manner. He is no weakling."
"So we will do nothing?"
"Go home, Mia. Aeon said, He was done speaking to me; he was a Beta, and I had no business speaking with a Beta male.
I turned around and ran, I ran as fast as I had never done before. I had to look for my mate. I wandered in dangerous forests, risking enemy territories, just to find him, but I couldn't. He was gone.
Your mate is back, child. Wake up or else you will lose him again. I turned around. It was my mother speaking to me. She was right—if I didn't wake up, I would lose him forever. I had to get up and fight for my mate, which was rightfully mine. I panicked and started running again, this time around and around in circles in the forest, looking for a quick exit. I was breathing hard.
I was still panting when I woke up. I was dreaming again of the day Noah left me, the day my life began to fall apart. Looking back now, I see that it was all building up to this moment.
I tried to open my eyes, but it hurt to do so. I kept them closed for a while. When I finally opened them, my head was sore. I was on a bed that I knew wasn't mine.
"Well, look who is finally awake. Hello Mia." Someone said beside me. I turned my neck sideways to look. It was Laila.
