Chapter 22 Uncle Henry, Will You Take Care of Me?
As soon as Alice walked in, she spotted Henry, and man, did he make everything else look dull in comparison.
She'd been wondering how she'd run into Henry again, and bam, here he was.
But Henry acted like he didn't even see her, treating her like a total stranger.
Alice shifted her gaze to Wesley. "Morning, Mr. Bennett."
Wesley gave her a once-over. She looked nothing like the girl with the heavy makeup he'd seen before. "Are you Alice?"
"Yeah, that's me."
"So, what went down between you and Sarah?"
Alice recounted the events from the previous day. "That's what happened, but I'm sure Sarah twisted the story to make it look like I started it."
Sarah's face went pale, worried Alice would ruin her rep in front of Henry. "I have witnesses! They can back me up!"
Wesley frowned. "Clara is Alice's sister. What's the deal here?"
Clara glanced at Henry, seeing her chance to get back at Alice. She spoke up, "Mr. Bennett, even though I'm Alice's sister, I have to tell the truth."
"Go on, then."
"Yesterday, before class, Alice insulted everyone in the department. Sarah couldn't take it and snapped back, only to get slapped twice by Alice. During class, Alice challenged Sarah with a problem, making her look bad." Clara's eyes welled up with fake tears. "Sarah went through all this because of me."
The other three girls nodded, each describing how Alice had bullied Clara in the past.
Sarah cried, looking at Wesley. "Mr. Bennett, you have to do something! I can't just be bullied by Alice for no reason! She should be expelled!"
Henry finally spoke, his voice low and serious, "Yeah, students who bully others should be expelled."
Wesley was taken aback by Henry's comment. He hadn't expected Henry to weigh in.
It seemed like Henry cared about Sarah. If the Bennett and Howard families teamed up, Wesley's political career would get a big boost.
With that in mind, Wesley nodded firmly. "Mr. Howard, I'm sorry you had to see this. I'll take serious action to regulate the school's atmosphere!" He then turned to Alice. "You're expelled from Loshanda University, effective immediately."
Alice calmly pulled out her phone and played a recording.
The office filled with voices: "Alice, you really have no manners, guess that's on your mother who was long gone..."
"I remember now, I saw her being carried into a Maybach by a man at the bar last night. It must be true! Could she be kept by someone..."
"The one keeping her wouldn't be an old and ugly man, would he..."
"Any volunteer? If you get it right, it will count as your final exam grade..."
"Mr. Gray, what if we get it wrong..."
"Mr. Gray, I'll answer, but I want Alice to do it with me..."
After the recording ended, Alice said, "This is what really happened. Sarah insulted my mom first. Anyone would be mad! I slapped her because she deserved it! The problem-solving thing was her idea. She should deal with the fallout. Clara and the others twisted the facts. What did Sarah offer you to make you all lie?"
"Mr. Bennett, shouldn't you ask if I have proof before expelling me? Just because you're Sarah's uncle, does that mean you can do whatever you want?"
Wesley's head was spinning with anger. If Henry weren't here, this would be easier to handle, but Henry was not only here but had also said that bullies should be expelled.
Wesley felt like Henry was setting him up, but he didn't dare say a word.
Wesley frowned, feeling really stuck.
Henry's demeanor turned icy, his eyes cold. "Mr. Bennett, didn't you just say you'd take serious measures to regulate the school? Were those just empty words? Or do those measures only apply to certain people and situations?"
Wesley, still thinking about the lab project, knew he couldn't sacrifice such an important achievement for some family drama.
So, he turned to Sarah. "The truth is out. Since Sarah started this, according to school rules, we'll take serious action and expel her immediately!"
Henry nodded. "And the truth needs to be made public. That's what a prestigious school should do."
Wesley nodded in agreement.
Sarah stood there, stunned, not expecting things to get this bad.
Clara and the other girls were equally shocked, wishing they could just disappear.
Henry tapped the armrest of the sofa, glancing at the four girls trying to blend into the background, his eyes full of disgust. "What about those who lied?"
Wesley cleared his throat. "They'll be publicly reprimanded and given a warning."
"How long will that take?" Henry asked.
"By the latest, the day after tomorrow," Wesley replied. Then he turned to Alice. "Could you delete that video?"
Alice chuckled. "Mr. Bennett, do you think I have that kind of power? Sarah's always been arrogant and domineering; she probably ticked someone off."
Henry suddenly stood up. "Mr. Bennett, I have business to attend to at my company. We can discuss the lab project another day."
Wesley was taken aback. Didn't Henry just say they'd talk after handling the video issue? But since Henry was a big shot, he could do as he pleased.
Wesley quickly followed Henry. "Mr. Howard, when will you be available? I'll schedule a meeting."
"Contact Ethan," Henry said as he walked past Alice without a glance.
Seeing this, Alice quickly followed.
As the elevator doors were closing, Alice stopped them with her hand and stepped inside.
Henry stood straight, his gaze steady.
Alice glanced at him, his perfect profile close to her. She tugged at his suit sleeve, her tone a bit playful. "Uncle Henry, thanks for today."
Henry pulled his hand away, his voice low. "It has nothing to do with you. I just didn't like being called an old, ugly man who keeps you."
Alice blinked. "You're young and handsome and haven't kept me. But I want to be kept! Uncle Henry, will you keep me? I'm easy to take care of."
Henry remained unmoved, not responding.
"Uncle Henry, from this angle, you're still so handsome. Even your nostrils are handsome," Alice said earnestly.
Henry stifled a laugh. "Is that how you compliment someone?"
Alice smiled. "Are you not mad anymore? Uncle Henry, I'll go home and make cakes and cookies later. I'll bring some to you, okay?"
"I don't like sweets."
"That's okay, as long as you like the person making them."
Henry fell silent.
When the elevator doors opened, Henry gently pushed her forehead with his finger and quickly walked out.
Alice didn't follow and was about to leave the campus. It seemed Henry's anger had subsided quite a bit.
As Alice was about to reach the campus gate, Clara called out to her.
