Chapter 7 Uncle Henry Backs Her Up
After grabbing some grub at a restaurant, Elodie and Zoey headed back to the hospital.
Just as they were about to step into the ward, they spotted Ethan strolling by with a Royal Orchid Restaurant bag in hand.
Elodie was fuming. That damn Alice not only got off easy but also scored food from Royal Orchid Restaurant. It made her blood boil.
Once Ethan left Alice's ward, Elodie barged in.
Seeing Elodie's bossy attitude, Alice felt annoyed. She put down her utensils and snapped, "What do you want?"
Elodie gritted her teeth. "You think you deserve food from Royal Orchid Restaurant?"
The ward door swung open again, and Henry's deep voice cut in, "If she doesn't, do you?"
Henry's brows were furrowed, and his lips were pressed tight. He was clearly pissed.
Ethan trailed behind him, surprised to see Henry show up. Henry had said he wouldn't come up.
Elodie quickly changed her tune, plastering on a fake smile, "Mr. Howard, what brings you here?"
"If I didn't come, how could I see your nasty faces?" Henry's words made Elodie's face twist with anger, but she didn't dare to talk back.
She forced a smile, clenching her hands so tight her nails dug into her palms.
Taking a deep breath, she tried to act all decent and said with a smile, "Mr. Howard, since you're here to see Alice, I won't bother you. I'll be leaving now." And with that, she fled, embarrassed.
Alice stood up. "Thank you, Uncle Henry."
Henry hadn't planned on coming up, but thinking about Elodie and Zoey's attitude towards Alice, he figured they'd give her a hard time, so he came to check.
And he was right.
He couldn't help but think how tough it must be for Alice, living in such a toxic environment.
Seeing Alice's red-rimmed eyes, Henry felt she was like a little rabbit easy to bully. His heart softened, and his tone became gentler, "You're welcome. Is the food good?"
Alice nodded, "It's all my favorites."
Henry chuckled, "Then enjoy your meal. I have a meeting this afternoon."
Alice quickly stepped forward, looking very obedient, "I'll walk you to the door."
Henry nodded slightly.
Watching Henry's tall figure, Alice's lips curled up slightly. It wasn't until Henry turned the corner that she went back to the ward.
The feeling of being protected was wonderful, and seeing Elodie suffer was even better.
Thinking of this, the food tasted even more delicious.
At three in the afternoon.
Ethan knocked on the office door and respectfully said, "Mr. Howard, after checking with the tech team, a sum of ten million dollars was transferred to the Loshanda Disability Welfare Center at three in the morning. But the account used was virtual and was withdrawn afterward."
Henry, who was reviewing documents, paused for a moment with his pen. This pattern matched with the kidnapper who sent him a video demanding money last night.
He suddenly chuckled, "Could it be that the kidnapper suddenly grew a conscience and donated all the money?"
Ethan stayed silent.
"Log into the dark web and hire the hacker 'Lone Wolf' to track down this kidnapper."
"Yes." Ethan said, "Mr. Howard, I'll go to the hospital to handle Miss Savoy's discharge now." Henry responded and continued reading the documents.
But ten minutes later, Ethan got a call from Henry. "Come back and pick me up."
'What?' Ethan was puzzled. 'Didn't Henry say he wouldn't go just now? Why the sudden change?' Henry's thoughts were hard to guess; no matter how much Ethan tried, he couldn't figure him out!
Ethan followed the order and swung the car around to pick up Henry.
Henry closed the document in his hand and tossed it on the desk.
He rubbed his temples. Last night, he had warned himself to stay away from Alice because he had actually developed primal desires for her.
But Alice's situation was really tough, and he couldn't just ignore it.
After Alice was discharged, their chances of meeting would be few, or even none.
Considering her future days in the Savoy Family, he felt it necessary to give the Savoy Family a warning. He should let them know that they should treat Alice as a human, and don't think too highly of themselves.
Meanwhile, Alice changed into the white lace dress Ethan had brought at noon. She twirled around and found it fit well, though she preferred the casualness of sportswear.
Just as She walked out of the ward to get some fresh air, she saw Zoey approaching. Zoey blocked her at the door and pointed at her nose, seemingly wanting to vent all the anger from noon, "What kind of person are you? Oliver got beaten because of you, and Clara got scalded by hot water. How can you be so vicious!"
Oliver got beaten?
Could it be that Henry's promise to give her an explanation last night meant he beat up Oliver?
That was too great, but might Henry's wound risk tearing open?
Seeing Alice lost in her thought, Zoey bossily said, "You go apologize to Clara and Oliver!"
Alice raised an eyebrow. "They got what they deserved. It's not my fault. Apologize? No way!"
"Bastard! Ever since you came back, the Savoy Family hasn't had a moment of peace! How can you compare to Clara?" Zoey's words quite lacked confidence. After all Alice's face was too strikingly beautiful, but she couldn't admit it.
She continued to criticize, "You're worthless, yet you want to compete with Clara for Oliver?"
Alice laughed, "What are you talking about? I was the one originally engaged to Oliver! Clara is the interloper between us!"
"Now that Oliver and Clara are together, don't cause any trouble! Otherwise, you'll be sent back to the countryside!"
Alice glanced and saw a figure walking towards her. She swallowed back the retort she wanted to make. Zoey snorted, "Let me tell you, Oliver and Clara will get engaged next month. If you cause any trouble, I won't spare you! The day after tomorrow, get ready to meet the heir of the Johnson Family. Don't dress up like you used to! Got it?"
Seeing Alice ignoring her, Zoey pushed her, "Bastard! Did you hear me?"
"Stop!" Henry's cold voice was filled with anger.
Zoey looked back and saw Henry, impeccably dressed, walking over with an imposing presence.
She instantly changed her expression, her smile reaching her ears.
"Mr. Howard, you're here!"
Henry's eyes glanced at Zoey with disdain, then he looked at Alice.
Alice, in a white dress, with her smooth hair draped over her back, looked obedient and pitiful with red-rimmed eyes. He beckoned, "Come here."
Alice bit her lip and walked towards Henry as she called softly, "Uncle Henry."
Henry asked in a low voice, "Does it hurt?"
Alice knew he was asking about Zoey's push just now.
She shook her head. "It doesn't."
Henry looked at the ingratiating Zoey, his cold eyes narrowing, "I didn't expect the Savoy Family to not care for their own granddaughter but to love a granddaughter with no blood relation so much. I'm truly impressed!"
Zoey forced a smile, "Alice grew up in the countryside and has many bad habits. We're strict with her for her own good."
"Strict? To train her to be a pawn for marriage alliances?" Henry's voice was cold, his handsome face looking extremely stern under the light, "I hope you treat Alice equally!"
