Welcome To My World
Excerpt:
Maverick's heart raced as Caleb's eyes locked onto his, the air thickening with tension. They stood in the dimly lit office, the only sound the soft hum of the computer.
Caleb's voice was low and husky, "Maverick, I've been waiting for this moment."
Maverick's cheeks flushed as Caleb's fingers brushed against his, sending shivers down his spine. He tried to speak, but his voice caught in his throat.
Caleb's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled, his face inches from Maverick's. "You're so beautiful, Maverick. Inside and out."
Maverick's lips parted, and Caleb's mouth claimed his in a gentle, yet passionate kiss. The world around them melted away, leaving only the thrumming of their hearts.
As they broke apart for air, Maverick's eyes fluttered open, his gaze meeting Caleb's. The desire and affection in those eyes left him breathless.
"I've wanted to do that for so long," Caleb whispered, his lips grazing Maverick's ear.
Maverick's blush deepened, but he couldn't help the smile spreading across his face. "I've wanted you to," he replied, his voice barely audible. They both stared at each other in the eyes, until a soft hand disrupted them.
“Wake up darling!” A soft hand gently rubbed Maverick's head, snapping him from his daydreaming.
My name is Maverick Cortland, I am a tall guy, with big brown eyes and brown long hair.
I am the last child of my parents. Yes, my mother gave birth to four children, I am the only male, and I have a twin sister, her name is Monica.
Growing up in a loving and caring family instilled in me a generous spirit. As the only brother, I've been spoiled by my sisters' affection and attention.
Our family has several huge companies that my sisters are managing. My parents have long hoped I'd take over one of their companies, but I've consistently declined, determined to forge my own path.
I don't have an interest in business, I've always wanted to be a detective since I was a little boy, and finally, my little dream is coming true, or so I thought.
………
"Sweetheart, where are you?" My Mother's worried voice echoed out of my cell phone, nearly giving me a shock as I hurried out of the classroom.
I've always been told I have a feminine appearance, and I've embraced it by dressing in a way that makes me feel confident and beautiful, even if it means being labeled a crossdresser. But, unfortunately, my parents don't support me when it comes to cross dressing.
"Mother, is everything alright? Are you okay?" I asked as I went to my car: it's the latest model of Benz production, gifted to me by my eldest sister, Amanda on my twentieth birthday.
"I am not alright! Where are you, my love? Please tell me, Monica!?" My mother's voice was raised in alarm, and it sounded tense.
I was worried because of the tone of her voice, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong with her.
"Momma, I just submitted my sign-off papers at school. I am heading home," I replied, my face covered in panic. I stood by my car, my keys were in my right hand, while my left hand was empty but clenched.
"Girl! You got me worried! Are you sure? Hope you are alright and no threat?" My mother asked me with a childish voice, and I could swear I saw her pout her lips.
"Why would I lie to you, momma?" I asked with raised brows and continued with a much slower voice. "What is going on? Why do you sound so tense? Is everything alright?"
My mother sighed sadly and dropped her hands in desperation, "Honey, I am fine, I just had a nightmare. In my dream I saw you in the middle of two huge men, and it really frightened me!" She was breathing heavily as she told me her nightmare.
"Oh momma!” I shook my head at my mother's overbearing behavior and smiled. Ever since I came out to my family, my parents have been very worried, trying to protect me from men who could exploit me. While my sisters, well, they are always ready to shut down the phobic people who want to bully or intimidate me
"It is not my fault baby boy, I am just scared of losing you to a bad man. If you get married, you will no longer live in our house, and that will really break my heart," I heard my mother's emotional voice, as she tried to blackmail me into listening to her.
“I've repeated it before, but I'll say it again: I have no intention of getting married. I don't even have what it takes to seduce a man!” I responded, trying to sound neutral and unhurt, but God knows how hurt I was at the idea of not being able to woo a man.
“Huh, don't feel bad about that. You have your family, and we'll get you engaged to the most charming man in the entire world. By the way, don't forget today's family gathering. I love you so much," my mother giggled, sounding pleased with herself, and I knew she was up to some mischief. I was about to pressure her into telling me the truth when she cut the call.
I let out a quiet sigh, reassuring myself that joining the secret spy service would be my ticket to independence from my overprotective family. It has always been my dream to work with this service, but whenever I apply, I get rejected. I assumed it was standard procedure until I uncovered the surprising truth: my family was behind the rejections. According to them, they were shielding me from danger.
The environment was really quiet, it was a Monday morning, and as usual, everyone was busy in their place of work.
The few people who were parading the buildings were armed police officers. I heard they're searching for a serial killer named Black Wolf, who escaped from the custody of the FBI agent.
I decided to ignore their chase, and I entered my car, slamming the door. Suddenly, my phone rang. When I checked the screen, it was a private number. Although I was hesitant at first, I decided to pick up the call.
"Hey, who is this? And how may I help you?" I asked with a friendly voice; at the back of my mind, I was wondering if my mother was behind the call.
"Maverick, it is me, Caleb," The voice at the other end replied, and I was shocked to hear his name.
My mind went blank, and I struggled to process what was happening. Luck finally seemed to be on my side and I felt a surge of determination.
"Officer Caleb, the one who works with the secret service spy?" My eyes widened, and I felt a jolt of shock as my heart raced. Nonetheless, a smile spread across my face as I tried to hide my nerves. "Wow! It is such a pleasure to hear your voice," I replied, composing myself to talk to a man who had the ability to better my career.
"It is also an honor to hear your voice, my super detective. Have you been able to submit your paperwork?" His voice sounded informal, it was like he was in a good mood.
"Yes sir, I have submitted my first paper." I held my car's steering wheel with one hand, while my other hand was firmly around my phone.
"Come to my office today, I have a special mission for you," he replied with a hoarse voice, and I suppressed the nervousness rising in my chest, trying to sound calm.
"Okay. I will be there soon," I replied politely and after a short exchange of friendly words, he cut the call, leaving me to swim in my shallow thoughts.
I mechanically started the car, my mind preoccupied with thoughts of dinner and Caleb's mission briefing. I hit something, and the sound of impact made me jump, that's when I noticed the man in a black cloak standing right in front of my car
