6 - Do you want to die?

"Cat got your tongue?" Rafael asked with a smirk that infuriated June.

She gritted her teeth, fighting the urge to stomp her feet.

"Liar." She ended up speaking after what felt like an hour. "Do you think I am a fool? Rafael Ambrose?" She scoffed, "As if!"

Rafael slid his hands in his pockets and gave her a blank look, in that moment, he looked a lot like the little prince that stood beside her. They looked like they were cut from one material.

Except her little baby was a lot more beautiful and bearable.

"If you are Rafael Ambrose then I am the president!" She added when he didn't say a word. "I will forgive you this once for looking down on me and let you go with a strict warning."

She wrapped her arms around her chest. "The next time you put this child's life in danger by refusing to supervise him properly, I will find you and make sure you spend your night in a police cell!" She roared with furious eyes.

Rafael was stunned at the audacity of the woman standing before him. He didn't know whether he should laugh or cry. Before he could speak a word, his son swooped into action.

"Auntie! You can send him to a prison cell, as long as you take me with you!" His smile was cute and his eyes shone as he spoke the words.

June and Rafael were dumbfounded.

"!!!"

"Oh, dear child." She squatted to his level, wincing when she felt a bout of headache hit her. "You are the most precious one in the world."

She ruffled his hair and he leaned into her, enjoying the attention that she gave him. "Promise me you won't get into any more danger."

The little child froze at the thought of her leaving him. He couldn't bear to have her leave him. He wanted her around him and his father. It was the first time he saw his father speak to a woman with emotion other than indifference.

As much as he wanted Auntie to himself, he loved his father and wished he could show many more emotions other than his usual indifference. That was why he was always getting into trouble.

The little one wanted to get his father out of the endless work he plummeted himself into like he was paying for a crime he committed.

"Do you have to go to work auntie?" Luis asked, knowing the reason he was often left with a nanny by his father was because of work.

June pursed her lips. The fact that she was still in dire need of a job returned to her consciousness with a vengeance.

"Yes! Auntie needs to get back to her job right now." She said, hoping that would make him understand.

"The doctor said you needed rest," Rafael said with a blank look. "The last thing I need is someone dying because they refused to get proper care I already paid for."

June's nose flared at his words. "Are you still pretending to be Rafael Ambrose?! You take impersonating to a whole new level!"

Rafael didn't bother himself with senseless arguments. He was never one to. Without wasting time, he whipped out his wallet, where his card was placed.

"Here you go!" He handed it over to her.

June's eyes went the size of saucers upon taking a look at the card. She had an inkling that the man before her was not an ordinary fellow but she shook it off like a spec of dust.

Now the results were slammed on her face like a well-dashed slap.

"Are you trying to intimidate me?" She suddenly asked with a quirked brow. "Are you here to throw your money around?"

Rafael couldn't believe how she turned the tables.

"Since you have all that money, I suggest you invest a little in getting a nanny that would take care of my little baby while you are off doing whatever the hell it is you do!"

June said all of these words while poking Rafael like a callous little child. Luis watched her with a starstruck look on his face. No one had ever done that to his father. This was a first.

He wasn't even reacting to it like he would normally do!

"He has a nanny," Rafael said defensively.

"Then you should fire her."

"Already did!"

By now, the two adults were standing in each other's faces, angry and frustrated by one another. Luis stood beside them with watchful eyes.

"Our little Luis has a track record of frustrating his nannies." Rafael breathed, a frustrated sound coming out of him. "I am considering taking up the role myself as it is."

At that moment, June could feel his distraught, which made her falter a bit. There was something about this man that made her want to reach out and soothe him.

She placed it at the back of her mind to check out everything on Rafael Ambrose she could find on the internet later on. That is after she found herself a job and enough money to get a phone and a place.

She was going nuts with how much she was yet to do and it didn't help that she was suddenly feeling the weight of the world on her body. Pains suddenly seemed to increase by her rib and she faltered.

"Auntie! Are you okay!" That was Luis. "Come, you need to sit."

This time around, she didn't protest. June could feel the pain return, a searing pain in her head and by her rib which increased as the seconds trickled by.

As soon as her back hit the bed, the doctor came rushing through the door and after taking some notes, she was given some shots to relieve the pain, as well as placed on some pain medications that should help her quick recovery and healing.

All through it, the father and son duo watched over her, hovering around and making comments when they felt the doctors were not doing their jobs.

June could see the stunned looks on the faces of the nurses who misunderstood their relationship due to the striking pair.

"You have two options, to remain in the hospital where you will be supervised for three days until you heal up or go home and take good care of yourself." The doctor said after his round.

"She will stay in the hospital." Rafael spoke like the figurehead, leaving no room for refusal.

However, June wasn't having it. "I will go home, thank you."

Luis pursed his lips, unable to speak as he thought none of the options translated to him spending more time with his auntie. He was the bummer of the deal.

"She will stay in the hospital and get the proper care I paid for." He said in a strict tone and June felt offended.

"I never asked you to pay for anything. You can ask for a refund! I will not remain in this hospital."

The doctor pursed his lips. Unhappy to be roped into another one of their couple fights. He couldn't even complain because he knew this man could easily end his career with a snap of his fingers!

Now Rafael looked upset. "Do you want to die?"

June was ready to throw another sassy response when her gaze was arrested by the TV screen that played the news. Three corpses of some thugs had been found in the early hours of the day.

Her breath seized when she saw the blurred images of the men, and she recognised the clothes. The same clothes of the men who tried to rape and kill her.
