Chapter 2 Found Her
Dominic's POV
"I found her, Dom," Luca said over the phone.
Relief washed over me. "Finally," I said, relaxing into my chair and closing my eyes for a brief moment before shutting them open again. "Where is she?" I asked.
"She's at London's underworld auctions," He replied.
Taken aback. "How the hell did she end up there?" I asked again.
"She was abducted by Leonard's men in Devon, and she's one the girls that will be displayed for auction this evening," He explained.
"All right, I'll take care of that," I concluded. "What about the kid?"
"He has leukemia and has been admitted to a hospital for more than two years now, with a huge sum of outstanding medical bills." He stated.
"Get it all sorted out, and have him transferred to London immediately," I instructed.
"Get ready. We are going to London's underworld auctions," After ending the call I said over the intercom to my head bodyguard.
I've been looking for this girl and her brother for three years. They vanished without a trace after the death of their father, Detective Flynn.
In all my business dealings, I've always adhered to the principle of not hurting anyone. But I was responsible for Detective Flynn's death, and I've never forgiven myself for it. So, maybe if I take care of his now 19-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son, the guilt might be a little easier to bear.
London's Underworld Auctions is an illegal auction house, notorious among the city's corrupt officials and businessmen. The room was packed with these individuals, and I sat at the back, waiting for just one purpose.
There she was, standing among the girls that were displayed. I could see fear in her eyes as she looked around the room.
I didn't participate in any bidding until it was her turn. She was a young and beautiful girl with a petite figure; her emerald green eyes could mesmerize any man. I watched as the men fought over her with their bids till a man made his bid and nobody countered him.
It was time to make my move.
"Five million," I countered. The room was filled with murmurs till the auctioneer's gavel slammed and she was sold to me.
I made the payments and went directly to my car. I instructed my bodyguards to bring her along in the other car.
I assigned her to be one of my maids for now, to make my intentions known and make it all look like a coincidence.
She sat in front of me in my study room with her head down, wearing the maid's black and white uniform. She looked pretty and innocent with her long, wavy brunette hair almost covering her face.
She introduced herself, and I did the same.
I noticed her eyes widen in shock. She must have heard about me, I thought.
I gave her the rules of the house, keeping my tone firm.
"Yes sir," she replied, nodding multiple times and keeping her head down again.
Her action made me smile for a moment, but I quickly pulled myself together. "There are cameras everywhere in this building, one wrong move and you could lose your life," I stated, maintaining a straight face.
She nodded again, without saying anything.
"You can leave now," I ordered.
She stood up and walked towards the door, my gaze fixed on her the whole time. She stopped in front of the door with her hands on the doorknob. I watched her for almost a minute; I could tell she was deliberating or being hesitant about something.
I diverted my attention to my laptop the moment she turned back.
"Mr. Anderson," She called. I lifted my head to look at her, curious about what she wanted to say.
"My little brother is in the hospital alone, with no one to look after him, and I've been abducted for three weeks now," She started.
"You'll get to see him soon," I cut her off, already aware of what she wanted. "For now, rest and do as you are told."
She nodded and finally walked out the door.
I picked up my phone to call Luca. It rang three times, but there was no answer.
I dialed his number again.
"Hey, Dom," he said as soon as he answered. "How did it go?"
"I brought her home," I replied. "What about the kid?"
"Don't worry about him, everything has been sorted. He'll be in London tonight." He assured me.
"All right, thanks, man."
"Anytime."
I almost hung up the call when he spoke again.
"I've never seen you so interested in someone unless it's business-related. But you didn't give up your search for these siblings for three years until you found them. Why are you so interested in them?"
There was a pause and we could hear each other breathing over the phone.
"Dom, are you still there? " he asked.
"Yeah," I replied. "I don't want to talk about this now, I'll tell you everything later. Just make sure the kid is safe and well taken care of."
"I'll make sure of that, and make sure you tell me everything later. I might end up dying of curiosity at this point." He whined.
"Curiosity killed the cat," I said, rolling my eyes. He continued whining on the phone, telling me to promise that I'll explain everything to him soon.
Sometimes, there's no difference between Luca and a six-year-old. Being kept in the dark about something gets Luca worked more than anything else.
"Good night Luca, Get some rest, you've had a long day," I tried to dismiss him.
"Just give me a date. I promise I won't bug you about it till then." He continued.
Luca is my half-brother, who is six years younger than I am. His mother was a housemaid who ran away after she got pregnant with him. To protect herself and her son from the wrath of my mother.
I found him 14 years later after my parents died in a plane crash, making me become a mafia lord at the age of 20. His mom was dying in the hospital when he reached out to me. I spent a lot of money to save her, but she didn't make it.
Luca is the only family I have left and the only person I trust the most.
We ended the call. I went back to my laptop and joined an online meeting that lasted for three hours before I retreated for the night.
