Chapter 2 An Eighteen-Year-Old Medical Genius?

James nodded and hustled Alexander to the hospital. A gunshot wound was no joke.

At HealWell Hospital, the top surgeon checked out Alexander's wound and was blown away. "Who did this? This surgery is almost perfect."

"A stranger!" Alexander was just as curious. That girl, so young, yet so calm and collected.

The stitches were flawless, the arterial bleeding was expertly handled, and the internal stitching was so good one couldn't even see it.

This wound would heal without a scar. Even the chief surgeon doubted he could do it this well.

"Is there a problem?" James asked, worried. Bringing Alexander back from that place had been nerve-wracking.

The chief surgeon, though, was full of admiration and even more curious about who had such mad skills.

"The surgery went great, and the healing looks good. A few days in the hospital, and he should be good to go home and rest," the chief surgeon replied.

James let out a sigh of relief, even more curious about the stranger who saved Alexander.

The chief surgeon looked a bit bummed. As the top surgeon in Avalon City, he didn't have skills this advanced. Who could this person be?

After the doctor left, Alexander turned to James. "Go find out who it was!"

James nodded and went off to investigate.

Early the next morning, James showed up at the hospital. Seeing Alexander working in the ward, he rushed over. "Mr. Carter, what are you doing? You need to rest!"

He'd been shot in the chest. Could he at least act like a patient?

Alexander's injury hadn't been reported to his father, Aiden Carter in Skycrest yet. If he found out, James feared he'd get chewed out.

"I know my own body," Alexander said, not even looking up from his documents.

James sighed and handed him a file. "Mr. Carter, this is what you asked me to look into. I found it!"

Alexander paused, opened the file, and looked at the contents. He then looked up at James, frowning. "A high school student? Just turned eighteen?" A high school student who could extract a bullet and had such good skills? Ridiculous.

Alexander wasn't buying it at all. He quizzed, "James, are you serious?"

James quickly waved his hand, thinking he wouldn't dare mess with Alexander.

"When I first found out, I thought it was crazy too. But I double-checked. The girl was wearing a uniform from a nearby high school. I confirmed it many times; she really is a student there!" James said, handing over a photo.

Seeing the photo, Alexander went silent.

It was a familiar face. Since the ambush last night, this face had been stuck in his mind. Even when he closed his eyes, he saw those bright eyes.

The girl in the photo was full of life, with beautiful eyes that made her stand out.

"An 18-year-old girl with strong combat skills, able to take down mercenaries, and possessing top-notch medical skills. James, she's something else!" Alexander said.

James nodded. He was just as shocked when he found out. This wasn't just a girl; she was like a superwoman!

"Mr. Carter, we should head back to the capital. It's not safe here!" James reminded him.

They'd only been here a day, and Alexander was already ambushed by mercenaries. This place was too dangerous; they needed to get back to the capital ASAP.

But Alexander wasn't having it. "The fact that they don't want me in Avalon City means there's something here they want to hide. I'm not leaving. I'll stay until I find out the truth. If you're scared, you can go back now."

James grimaced. As Alexander's assistant, there was no way he could leave if Alexander stayed.

"Make sure no one in Skycrest hears about my injury, and keep it from my family too!" Alexander ordered.

James looked troubled. "But if Mr. Aiden Carter asks about you, what should I say?"

"Just tell him I'm fine and that things are progressing smoothly!" A few mercenaries weren't going to scare Alexander off.

Thinking of the girl in the photo, Alexander turned to James. "I want to meet this girl!"

James nodded and headed to Maplewood High School, where Allison studied. As soon as she came out, he recognized her. She was indeed very beautiful, standing out among the other girls.

He was about to approach when he saw a few young men surrounding Allison's bike. "Are you Allison?"

Allison, in her blue and white Maplewood High School uniform, looked even more vibrant. Despite her stunning appearance, her eyes were cold. She didn't answer their question but tried to pedal away, only to have her bike grabbed by the young men. "Hey, don't be so arrogant, you little brat!"

The leader of the group looked furious. Despite the girl's beauty, her lack of respect made him lose face.

"Allison, come with me. Otherwise..." The leader tried to grab Allison's hand, but she quickly brushed him off.

"Get lost now!" Allison's voice was icy, and her eyes even colder, which was terrifying.

"Do you know who I am? You're lucky I even noticed you!"

Allison got off her bike, parked it, and crossed her arms, looking coldly at them. "And who do you think you are?"

Seeing Allison like this, the leader thought she was scared and reached out to put his arm around her shoulder.

Before he could touch her, Allison swiftly grabbed his arm and threw him over her shoulder, slamming him to the ground. He cried out in pain.

"Do you know who my dad is? He's..."

Allison squatted down, looking coldly at him, and said, "Even if your dad is the Grim Reaper, I wouldn't care! Stay away from me. Otherwise..."

Allison stood up and stepped on his chest, making him scream in pain. The other young men were trembling with fear, thinking the girl was a demon.

The leader shouted, "Call someone! I want this girl dead!"

Allison ignored him and pushed her bike away.

Many parents at the school gate saw this and started talking.

There were many rumors about Allison at school. The most common one was that she had been rebellious since middle school, hanging out with delinquents and even getting pregnant and having an abortion.

Her family, embarrassed by her, sent her to Avalon City to fend for herself.

Allison never cared about the rumors. People never cared about the truth; they only believed what they wanted to believe.

Just as she was about to leave, someone stopped her again. She looked up at the well-dressed man with gold-rimmed glasses in front of her, puzzled.

James said, "Hello, Ms. Bennett, I'm James. Mr. Carter would like to meet you. This way, please."

Allison glanced at the black car not far away and walked over.

James opened the car door, and Allison saw the man in the back seat. She wasn't surprised and got in.

"With such a serious injury, you're already up and about today. You must be in good shape!" Allison's tone was mocking, and her eyes were devoid of any emotion.
